Detailed Reviews
I've stayed at this Courtyard before a few times but never took the time to write about it. Well, here it is..
This property is a gem in the Courtyard portfolio. I'm not sure how old the hotel is, but it presents as if it's brand new. Everything from the carpet to the furnishings sparkle, and those lucky enough to get a lake view room are not disappointed. I spent a lot of time watching seaplanes land and takeoff from the comfort of my room.
The Bistro in the lobby serves up good breakfasts, but where it really shines is with the Espresso Martini's in the evening. I don't know how the bartender does it, but she makes it the perfect blend of all ingredients, I just I wish I could do it at home.
I parked in the garage, and while there were plenty of spaces, the spots are very tight and difficult to maneuver in and out. Exiting the garage at a 90 degree angle can also be quite challenging. Finding the elevator lobby was a snap and the elevator takes you directly to all of the floors. There are also stairs leading up to the lobby.
The entire staff was great, from front desk to housekeeping.
There are plenty of hotels to check into in Seattle, but this one is truly one of my favorites, and I'll be back.

We stayed at the Courtyard Seattle Downtown/Lake Union on Saturday, Aug. 7, to Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021, for a personal trip at the end of several days of travel throughout the area. We selected the hotel for its location in the city, which is convenient to other sites but outside the downtown core. The Marriott website is full of words like "explore," "escape" and "retreat," but I wouldn't use any of those words to describe this experience. After three nights, our experience was just disappointing.
We used a big portion of our accumulated Marriott rewards points for this hotel, and I understand that means we won't get the best room. But when the hotel was obviously not full, it would have been nice to have a view of something aside from construction cranes and a collection of tiny houses for temporary homeless housing, especially when the hotel apparently has wonderful views of the lake. Fortunately, at least that side of the hotel was quiet.
No housekeeping is provided during a stay of less than seven days, something that was not shared until just prior to arrival. The shower drain was so slow that it made the person showering stand in more than an inch of gray water and turn off the water mid-shower for fear of overflowing the basin. When we alerted the front desk to the issue, the staff picked up the radio immediately, but even if someone went to address the problem, it persisted for our stay. The bulk soap in the shower was not full when we arrived and then ran out on the final morning — we had to go down to get a bar of soap from the front desk to finish showering.
The room itself is designed to be comfortable, yet the conditions of the room we experienced made me want to spend as little time there as possible. The air-conditioning unit leaked condensation, making a large wet area on the carpeted floor nearby even as it blasted frigid air when set to 70 degrees. The lack of any housekeeping made the experience less restful and relaxing.
Individually, none of these issues would ruin a hotel stay, but cumulatively, they left a bad impression of this property. Even with current pandemic restrictions and staffing challenges, all of them were avoidable: fix the drain, fill the soap, put loyal customers in the nicest room you have available. And if you're going to keep your rates the same but not going to have a basic service like housekeeping, at least make an effort to acknowledge the inconvenience and difference in experience by offering some other comfort like a couple bottles of water or daily voucher at the pantry.

We stayed 6 nights and felt lucky we picked this hotel. Looking out of our 5th floor window, we could see across the street to Lake Union. Seaplanes, paddle boarders, kayakers, people walking their dogs, it was entertaining. Every morning we walked down to a Starbucks at the AGC building (1 block) and ate our breakfast down at the wooden sitting area on the Lake. Saturday was very entertaining; rental pontoon boats, etc. taking out tourists and bachelorette parties. We'd stay here again and would recommend it. The only issues we had were the soft bed pillows. When you can fold the pillows in half, it's time to replace the pillows. Also, the mirror lightening was too dim, and no makeup remover pads. No free bottles of water; we had to buy a 12 pack to keep in the fridge. Breakfast is offered at an extra price and while the food was good, it was cheaper to walk down to the Starbucks.

Parking is $40 + tax a night. (3 nights ) If you want to relax and watch a movie on Netflix, you must paid. $5 a water bottle. Our room was clean once. No extra towels There was no pool. For the price of the room they should offer free continental breakfast , the reception area is always busy therefore, the employees are a bit unfriendly. For the price of each room it was not worth it.

Response from Mike S, General Manager at Courtyard Seattle Downtown/Lake Union
Responded Jul 8, 2024
Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay. I’m sorry we did nott meet your expectations and it is important to us for all our guests know what to expect when they stay at the Courtyard Seattle Downtown Lake Union. As with most downtown hotels, we do charge for overnight parking and the charge may vary depend upon the size of your vehicle since we can accommodate regular and oversized vehicles. Although you may have been expecting a pool at the hotel, our indoor pool was converted to gym facility when we completed our renovation in 2019. Our gym facility includes over 19 different workout stations with various equipment for anyone’s workout regimen. As a Courtyard brand, we do offer an ala carte full breakfast menu with many options to choose whether it is eggs cooked-to-order or French toast. I apologize for the staff being not friendly and it is always our goal to meet the service standards of Marriott. When you are back in Seattle, I hope you give us another opportunity to earn your loyalty.

Old and fairly basic hotel, located however on the waterfront walking distance to nice restaurants. Despite the exorbitant prices they are charging they only service the room every second day. Amenities are quite basic and breakfast not very impressive.

Thank you for your feedback regarding the Courtyard Seattle Downtown Lake Union. I understand the importance of staying at an up-to-date hotel so you can enjoy your time in Seattle. This is one of the reasons why the hotel went through an extensive 3-year renovation updating the lobby, guest rooms, public spaces and exterior. We also updated the hotel by removing the indoor swimming pool area and converted it to a state of art fitness room with over 19 workout stations. To meet the guest’s expectation of housekeeping service, we do offer housekeeping service every other day or if a guest request more frequent service we are happy to meet those requests. Thank you again for your feedback as we continue to explore ways to enhance the overall experience for our guests.

We just checked in. Check in person was kind of rude when we asked about the parking fee or if there was free breakfast with the room. Did not get a welcome greeting for being Bonvoy elite members like we would at other Marriott properties. As I am reading reviews, I found out to my dismay, that there is no pool or jacuzzi.. although I have seen pictures on multiple websites of the pool and hot pool.
And $5 for water ?? Already paying $300 for the room !!
Will not stay at this property again.

Thank you for taking the time to share some feedback with us regarding your recent stay. I do apologize about your experience at check-in, and that our staff member who was assisting you was not as friendly as they should have been. We strive to provide the best possible guest service at all times, and this was not up to our standard, so we will absolutely make this a point to work on moving forward. As for the pool, I'm very sorry if there were some misleading photos online. We took our pool out about three years ago during our hotel renovation, and unfortunately there are some websites out there that have not taken the old photos down yet. We are aware of this and are trying our best to get every website up to date. Again, thank you for taking the time to give us this valuable feedback, and we appreciate you choosing our hotel to stay at.

We have stayed here three times and it has always been great. The lake views are beautiful and the staff is very nice. We usually get a two queen, lake view room, but there was a mixup in our room reservations (my fault) and we got a king with a pull out sofa bed. It was a tight squeeze for our family of four. The two queens room is much more spacious and easily accommodated our family. There is housekeeping only once a week, but extra towels and supplies are available at the front desk. The location of the hotel makes it very convenient to get to the I-5 north or south ramps. My kids loved walking across the street to the park to feed the ducks.
Tip: make sure you ask for a lake view room. It’s a little more expensive, but it’s worth it!

Like other Courtyards I’ve visited, the Seattle Courtyard by Marriott follows a predictive formula to deliver quality accommodations at (formally a reasonable price). Inflation or not, ~$395 per night is a tad on the spendee side for a 3 star hotel. What you get is a comfortable room with contemporary adds like a walk in shower and huge flat screen that pivots. The lobby is decent size and the hotel contains a restaurant (limited menu), bar and an agent room to read, drink and chill. The hotel is “nice” but on leaning toward the sterile side in terms of vibe. Conveniently located across from Lake Union Park and within short walking distance to bars and restaurants; professional staff.

I stayed one night at the Courtyard by Marriott Lake Union. The location is convenient and with the lake across the street, it's very pleasant. As with most places in a city parking will set you back $40 per day - at least this is what they tell you on check in. Maybe I missed it but I failed to hear the additional $9.95 in taxes that would be added to that $40. Breakfast in the Bistro is not included and expensive as well. Comfortable place to sleep, just be sure to ask questions so you are not surprised by the charges.

Dear triciastravels75, Thank you for staying with us, and I'm very happy to hear that you enjoyed the location of the hotel! It's definitely nice to be right across from the lake, especially during the summertime. As for the parking charges, I do apologize if we were not communicative about the parking tax that does get added on. I will get with my team about making sure we are always informing our guests about this. Thank you for the feedback, as it does allow us to better our service! I hope the other aspects of your stay were enjoyable!

Booked 4 nights. When checking in told housekeeping only avaliable by request only (due to covid). We paid to have a Bayview but windows were very dirty. One 2 towels in room for 2 people for 4 nights. No ice machines, told closed due to health concerns . Front desk offered to get some from kitchen . Had to go to front desk to get ice, only got 1 time very inconvenient. On day 3 asked for housekeeping and since I was only staying 4 nights and not 5 or more they couldn't do my request of cleaning my bathroom. Asked if we needed towels or bedding. Requested towels and garage be taken . Told to leave dirty towels and garage outside room. When we returned dirty towels and garage still outside room. New towels where in room, too frustrated to call. Took out my own garage, and put dirty towels on bathroom floor. Also garage garbages always over flowing .When checked out didn't ask how my stay was. Many places to stay in Seattle check around I am sure more better options . 1st time in Seattle very disappointed with options not available, understand whole covid I work health but then be more clear about services not offered an lower price due to this. Also alot of construction google maps doesn't bring you to main entrance .

Greetings from Courtyard Seattle Downtown Lake Union. Thank you for staying with us and for your recent feedback. I apologize that your stay was not as expected. We have put many protocols in place to ensure the safety of guests and staff during Covid. We have temporarily closed our ice machines on the floors to avoid multiple guest usage in between sanitizing and have noted that ice can be requested from the front desk for delivery. I apologize housekeeping service wasn’t provided when requested or you weren’t offered additional items to be delivered. We definitely fell short on our service and I hope you give us another opportunity to gain your loyalty when in the Seattle area.
