Me and my partner stayed a few weekends ago, it was our first time at a bed and breakfast. The owners are a wonderful and very personable couple. . Breakfast was good, house is very cool and unique. Only bad thing i have to say is the bed, it was extremely uncomfortable i ended up sleeping on the couch both... More

First, Roger and Dave are very welcoming hosts and the historic house is a gorgeous structure with a beautiful front porch. They are eager to share their stories and opinions, which made for some very lively moments of conversation. The house is filled with curiosities and artifacts (I couldn't imagine trying to keep it dusted! What a job!) You can... More

All items leading up to this stay made me very un-easy. There was no official reservation confirmation. Just a one sentence e-mail response, to my e-mail requesting some reservation confirmation. Phone conversations were brief and hurried. With that said, once we arrived the owner was very accommodating and cordial. The room was nice and the breakfast good, with an excellent... More

My 2 daughters and I plus my 9 mo. old granddaughter stayed here and had a wonderful time. Roger was very congenial and funny. We all enjoyed talking with him as well as the other guests. We booked the connecting rooms and were pleased with them. The house is beautiful. Breakfast was delicious. The garden is a work in progress... More

Had a great visit to the B&B. 1871 with wonderful decor and period design. Each bedroom can house two people. Innkeeper Roger is very hospitable and makes a great breakfast. Sat on the veranda and enjoyed the peace and tranquility. Say yes to staying here. I will be back.

I have known the proprietors of Rippon-Kinsella since they owned the Henry Mischler House and have come back several times to stay with them. That should tell you a lot right there! Of all the B&B's I have ever stayed at, Roger and David put the most effort into making everyone feel welcome. Roger cooks a terrific breakfast; not too... More

Our stay at the Rippon Kinsella B&B was the icing on the cake for a wonderful weekend getaway in Springfield IL. The B&B itself was beautifully decorated and cared for by its owner the historical mementos as well as the personal touch in décor added a sense of home to the atmosphere that is often lost in more commercial establishments.... This was our first B & B experience and we were not disappointed or wanting in any request. We enjoyed Roger and Dave's company. The Captains quarters were comfortable and full of interest, as was the rest of the house. The furnishings were not lacking in history and stories. Roger's cooking was superb with memorable pineapple muffins from scratch. All... More

Nice and clean, with decorations on just about every surface. The innkeepers were very friendly and talkative, going out of their way to make sure we were comfortable. Be sure to go up to the front door (facing the street) when you arrive - we knocked on the back door first, but no one heard.

We just returned this afternoon from spending the night in this beautiful Victorian house. We just live approx. 40 miles away, but my husband surprised me for a Valentine's evening away. When we arrived, Roger showed us our room and then brought cheese, crackers, homemade cookies and wine to us. We stayed in the Captain's Quarters. Loved the fireplace in... More

“Book before Fall, 2016 as the hosts will be closing the door to guest forever.”

“The Captain's Quarters is best suited for early risers since the unique Italianate windows do not lend themselves well for window shades.”

“Captains Room was very nice. I'm sure the others are OK , too; as were did get a look at them.”

“The home is not handicapped accessible as it was built in the 1870's. If you have mobility issues due to arthritis, be sure to let the owners know when booking. They will be sensitive to any disabilities. The stairway is narrow and winding, which was very typical for that time, so you will want to be careful when going up and down, but it certainly isn't a safety issue either. The Campaign Room is very comfortable. I have stayed in that one twice so it's my favorite.”

“For extra space, especially if you have a 3rd person, choose the Captain's Quarters. They will provide a roll-away bed or the 3rd person can use the full-length couch. The Maid's Room might provide a bit more privacy if there are other guests, as it is separate from the other 2 rooms. If you have pet allergies, there is a cat & dog that currently reside there. They were not any bother to us, never in our presence as they keep them away from guests.”
