This is a good hotel. The 3 or 4 star restaurant menu was a bit boring and did not change for the 4 nights we were there. The rooms are comfortable, the lounge and hang out areas of very nice, with comfy couches. They do wake you up if there is any sighting of the Northern Lights. I wish there... More

Stayed at Hotel Ranga during our honeymoon. The hotel was so nice to lay the bed with rose petals to create a lovely ambiance. We were greeted with a complimentary house drink at the cosy lounge during our check in. The hotel also offers to wake guests up for Northern Lights (if it occurs - unfortunately it was too cloudy... We had a great three nights here and could have stayed longer. The menu was varied for breakfast and dinner. We had a back room over looking the river, so saw the sunsets. We did do the night drive out to see the Northern lights, but actually saw them from the hotel, as they will do a wake up call,... More

As the title suggest, the location of this hotel is very strategic. Located in the south central part of Iceland, it is a good convenient place to base for a few days to cover most of the main sightseeing areas. We stay here 4 nights. During that time, we covered large part of the Golden Circle, Landmanalauger, Porsmork Valley, Myrdolsjokull... More

This property is located about an hour and a half East of Reykjavik on the ring road. Arriving after dusk, the Hotel is a set of Rustic Buildings set off from the road. Entering the Hotel you are greeted by a large stuffed Polar Bear- no as hoakey as it sounds. The rooms are ample with a private exit to... More

If you are in Iceland you MUST schedule at least one night here. Not sure where to begin with this review - however I was Wowed at every possible moment. I have been travelling with a co-worker on this fun girls weekend trip. It was her birthday. I emailed Hotel Ranga the morning prior to our arrival and with a... More

The hotel is beautiful and our room had a very quirky (but awesome) decoration. Great service (the general manager was super attentive and came talk to us every evening), great food at the restaurant (I´m still dreaming of that wild mushroom soup, honest to Thor!) and the waking-up service to see the Lights never failed! Totally recommend it!

Amazing hotel, beautiful views and rooms. The hottubs are also amazing. The breakfast is typical icelandic-bacon,eggs, beans and bread. Dinners are pricey and weren't worth the price in my opinion. Highly recommened this hotel.

Lovely hotel right in the countryside ! We stayed two nights in a standard accommodation ( ask for a river view room). I found the room quite small, but it was functional and clean. As we were part of a group we stayed on a half board basis and our 3 course set menu was delicious. The food was very... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
