Me and my friend stayed here for 2 nights on 10 December. The atmosphere of this hotel was so inviting. The staff were very friendly. The rooms were nice and clean. I did lose my coat during my stay but it was returned to me following further enquiry made by my friend. I'm very grateful for this. I would highly...

Everything about this hotel exceeded expectations. For starters the staff is superb. They were nothing but friendly and helpful. Even individuals who seemed a little cold opened up when spoken to. The manager is amazing. He visits the dinner table to make sure that your stay is up to par, and to answer any questions that you may have. Even...

Nothing was lacking for me and my two teen-aged kids during out stay at Hotel Ranga. But the outstanding service is worth mentioning. From the first moment, when we arrived with no luggage (Thank you Icelandair), the team at Ranga sprang into action to accommodate us in every possible way. Throughout the trip, the owner, Fred, was everywhere, making sure...

Worth every penny (or Krona)! We had planned to stay at Hotel Ranga for two nights, but extended to three due the minimum on a special rate that included a fixed menu for dinner every night. We're so glad we did! The bar and wine list are well appointed and the food was delicious every night (even for an incredibly...

We stayed here for 3 nights in one of the deluxe rooms. The room was lovely and cosy with a log cabin feel. The bathroom was large with a big jacuzzi style bath and a nice range of toiletries including bath salts. Our room faced the front of the hotel so while the view of the back might be more...

Middle of nowhere, peaceful, homely and comfortable. Great meals in the evening with attentive service. The hot tubs were interesting, especially at this time of the year, but my son assures me it was wonderful once you were in! Very restful place.

The wifey and I stayed at Hotel Ranga for 2 nights for Christmas Eve, and checked out on Christmas itself. And on this note, we were appreciative to all the hotel staff for working over this festive period. What we liked about the hotel was, firstly, when we checked in, we were offered a free welcome drink (we chose the...

We stayed here for our honeymoon and we're treated so well by all the staff. The manager and owner personally greeted us whilst having a drink. He handed us a map, providing tips on where to go ! The manager was then pouring out coffee and tea the next morning , chatting away to guests. There was an all round...

Although not quite as remote as expected, with the main road close by, this hotel was the perfect location to view the Northern Lights. The hotel was warm and welcoming. Staff were friendly and very helpful and the food was amazing, especially the buffet meal we were treated to on our second night. One thing spoilt our stay. The hotel...

We stayed at this hotel for one night (for our wedding anniversary) as it was beyond our price range for the whole trip. The room was large and perfectly nice ( we were in a deluxe double I think), I suspect the theme rooms others recommend are probably really great. The restaurant is very very good, nice atmosphere and high...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
