The staff and service were the best we have encountered through Europe and Iceland!! The restaurant is phenomenal! One of the best couple meals I have ever had! We were hoping to see the Northern Lights, but NO luck! I guess we will have to...More
This is a lovely cozy hotel. It has a log cabin feel with wood panelling. Note: for those sensitive to taxidermy, there is a stuffed polar bear in the entryway!
We stayed in a deluxe double room. It was quite small - I had expected...More
Ambiance is warm and lovely from the cozy log-cabin style decor. Loved the view from our room and restaurant of active volcanoes and glaciers. The dinner we had of fresh seafood and reindeer carpaccio was mind-blowing. Relaxing in the outdoor hot tubs we saw the...More
We slept in the Mastersuite - Africa with a family of three
+ spacious suite
+ wonderfull view from the balcony
+ friendly staff
+ pro-active staff: they checked the Ferry for us for the next day
+ Northern light wake up call
This was our third stay here (we visited prior to that for food) in 6 years and disappointingly, we felt that standards had slipped this time. The room felt tired and the mattress had sagged from so many people sleeping on it. The previously Icelandic...More

They have a nice little cabin with an open roof that has at least 3 powerful telescopes where you can use your eyes to view (not like the super telescopes where it is just points of light on a monitor.) On clear nights, a local astronomer comes and takes you around to show you what is in the night sky. He points the telescopes where there are interesting sights.
If you are lucky, you'll also see in the Northern Lights - Hotel Ranga is one of the best places in the world to view. They have these large loungers out front so you can just lie there next to your love ones and view nature's fabulous light show.
This was one of the most fabulous experiences we've ever had in travel - and we travel a lot. Highly recommend!

Dead easy to drive yourself, practically one main road. Organised tours looked hideous! We booked car rental before we arrived in Iceland online with 4x4 rentals who pick you up from airport or hotel and take you to their nearby depot. At worst, sat nav on iPhone gets you about if you don't hire one.
