We chose this hotel as a base for a short family holiday in Iceland. It's really well located for visiting southern sites of natural beauty. Iceland isn't cheap or particularly luxurious. So don't expect anything more than a super clean, standard 4* hotel. We took the royal suite - which is huge, with beautiful views. But it's not indicative of...

We stayed here hoping to see the northern lights - it's supposed to be one of the best hotels in Iceland to see them. Out front the have wood loungers so you can relax and view the northern lights. Unfortunately, mother nature didn't cooperate, but our stay was still very nice. The bathrooms are large with a jetted tub -...

This hotel is THE place to see the northern lights. It is removed from the light noise of the city and is out in the wilderness. There is not much to do at the actual hotel, so it is the best place to get some R & R. If you are looking for things to do, you can make arrangements...

We stayed here for two nights during a weeks holiday in Iceland and it was extremely well located for a trip to the glacier and then an easy journey to the Blue Lagoon. We upgraded the room, but what a room with a huge comfortable bed and lovely bathroom. Food was fantastic and the staff were all extremely welcoming and...

We weren't wild on this place. Had a very old fashioned feeling. Varnished pine everywhere. Tired jacuzzi in our bathroom. Room made up as a twin (do many people prefer this option)? To be fair the reception staff were very helpful and had it changed over when we were eating dinner. They also came to try to demonstrate how to...

This hotel was simply wonderful. In the middle of nowhere exactly where you want to be for a few nights whilst in Iceland. The staff are so helpful, knowledgable and friendly. The chef cooks the most amazing food. Breakfast is buffet table and great too. The manager makes himself known to you each night and talks with you- a lovely...

We stayed here for one night for our honeymoon. The staff decorated the room with rose petals and candles. It was very sweet. Awesome views and jacuzzis right outside the rooms. Bathrobes and slippers in the room. Huge breakfast spread.

Duirng a recent trip to Iceland, we decided to change our itinerary for the last few days due to a Jökulhlaup in Skaftá. (Glacier on top of Volcano causing floods in Eastern Iceland). So I phoned the hotel and got a room. Upon our arrival a few days later we were greeted as returning guests and treated superbly. We were...

This is my second visit at this hotel, having stayed there 2 yrs ago in the penguin suite. This time around, I reserved a regular room. Yes, it's considered a luxury hotel with a luxury price tag. They have a great formal restaurant for dinner, and the breakfast that they serve in the same room is one of the best...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hotel Ranga is a luxury countryside hotel and the only 4 star resort in South Iceland. It offers all the facilities and services of a modern resort. Located about an hour from Reykjavík between the towns of Hella and Hvolsvöllur, it lies just off the main road right in middle of South Iceland’s panoramic scenery. The resort is built in log-cabin style and has through the years acquired an excellent reputation for its food, accomodation and service. It is the first Icelandic hotel to become a member of the prestigious international hotel chain Great Hotels of the World. A celebrity hot spot, top honeymoon destination and favorite hotel amongst Icelanders, Hotel Rangá also offers great facilities for small business meetings, weddings and social gatherings. One cannot miss feeling welcome entering its warm interior where relaxed countryside feeling meets the professional ambition of pleasing its entire clientel. Upon entering Hotel Ranga, you will be greeted by a towering 10-foot tall polar bear named Hrammur that resides in the lobby. He is a favorite model for photographers and is definitely one of the most pictured objects in Iceland. This is just a prelude to the cozy ambience that you will encounter that vibrates throughout the hotel. Hótel Rangá was upgraded and renovated in 2007/2008 and presently has 51 luxuriously decorated rooms and suites. It also features an acclaimed riverside restaurant, a lounge and bar, 2 upstairs meeting rooms, a game room, massage facilities and three much beloved outdoor hot tubs heated with geothermal water - where there is an excellent chance to view the fantastic northern lights during September through April. ... more   less
