We visited this location with a group on a yoga retreat. I thought the customer service was amazing! The rooms are simple but super comfortable and the upstairs "hang out" room is really cozy.

If you are staying Leirubakki, I would recommend looking into a hike in Lanmannalaugar, which was truly incredible and I consider not to miss activity. And the drive there is a lot of fun, too. If this interests you, though, I would highly a 4X4 (in fact, you probably would struggle to get there without one). As a general matter, unless you are on a really tight budget, I would recommend the 4X4 to eliminate any worries and ensure you can access anywhere you want to go.
Have a great trip!
