My daughter and I spent a comfortable night at Irving House while she was looking at graduate schools in Cambridge. Very convenient to public transportation. This is a cozy establishment whose management takes great care to assure you a pleasant stay. Please note that rooms can be up several flights of stairs and there is no elevator.

Thank you for your kind review. I am pleased you found us to your liking. I hope that your stay in Cambridge was helpful to your daughter and a pleasure for you both!

If your main priority is close proximity to Harvard, then this place is great. Otherwise it is second rate. My room was so tiny, with a bathroom across the hall, there was no space for a dresser and the luggage rack was shoved into the closet. I cannot stay here again for two main reasons: 1) the room was so...

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. I am sorry your room was too hot! There is no heat that comes from the closets at all, though it may have felt that way. While we have researched improvements to our heating system to provide individual controls in guest rooms, we have not found a system...

This is anything but an "Inn" and has the charm of a one star JFK airport hotel. Small bedrooms stuffed in a very simple house that somehow overgrew to 4 floors. They were able to have many rooms by puting bathrooms in closets or simply leaving them outside the rooms. You will love this place it if you like plastic:...

Dear Christian, Thank you for taking the time to express your views on your stay with us. Irving House does not promote itself as an 'inn.' While the term is not very common here, we think a more accurate word is guesthouse: we do not have meeting rooms, or a full restaurant as many inns do. But quite apart from...

This is a modest looking bed and breakfast from the early 20th century designed by the head of Harvard’s Peabody museum. It has small rooms and it is expensive We paid $360 t for the smallest room I have stayed in in my adult life. The desk clerk told me it was the weekend before the marathon so they raised...

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. While there are some points you make that are accurate, I hope to clarify some that are not. Irving House was not designed by the head of Harvard's Peabody Museum. From the Cambridge Historical Commission I gleaned the information that Irving House was built by/for a grocer in...

The Irving House is in a perfect location for visiting Harvard. But incredibly expensive -- as are all Cambridge Hotels. Very clean, good breakfast. We stayed in the family room next to the office so stairs were not an issue. But office phone rang all night one night. Arrive as early as you can to get a parking spot and...

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. We are pleased you found our style of accommodations to be to your liking. I agree, room rates in Cambridge, and Boston, are very high relative to many other places in the US. We aim to keep Irving House rates among the lowest in the Harvard Square area,...

I recently stayed for one night at Irving House--it had been arranged by a local non-profit organization I was helping. Overall, it was a great place to stay. Although it describes itself as a B&B, it is really somewhere between a B&B and a hotel, due to its size and facilities. Here are the pros and cons: PROS -Great Location--as...

We booked a "family suite" (Q + twin + trundle/private bath) for a visit with family in Cambridge. They also have bunk bed suites. This historic, slightly creaky inn is in a quaint neighborhood and wonderfully walkable to Harvard Yard, Harvard Square, restaurants and shops. The room had pretty linens and quilts, a clean bathroom, comfy mattresses even on the...

The Irving House is located on a quiet side street, within walking distance of Harvard Square, local cafes, churches and public transportation. Public transportation and walking is important, because if you drive there and are luck enough to get a parking spot, you will probably not want to move. This was booked quite late and it was mainly the location that was of interest to me, as I had meetings in nearby Harvard Square the following day.
