The Hyatt Regency Boston / Cambridge earns praise for its clean, comfortable rooms with scenic river views, though a few guests mention the walls could be better insulated and the decor refreshed. Its location is celebrated for its easy access to MIT and Cambridge, along with charming views of the Charles River, despite a few remarks about inconvenience.
While the hotel's old-school atmosphere and cleanliness receive positive nods, along with the amiable service and well-kept common areas, some visitors express a wish for updated decor and more dining variety. The additional fees and parking costs, however, have led to concerns about the value provided.

My daughter and I booked a room last-minute to be closer to the location of her swim tournament. The front desk staff were very personable and made sure we had everything we needed for our stay (and we were upgraded to a river view!!). The room was clean and spacious, with a massive TV. For ordering breakfast, which you can do for room delivery or pickup, plan ahead and allow about 30-40 minutes wait. I also liked that there is an attached parking a garage with flat-rate self-parking for 24 hours. We were able to return in the afternoon of our checkout day to pick up the car rather than having to find parking in Boston.

We attended a conference here earlier this month and enjoyed the restaurant so much that we decided to come back for a business meeting.
The breakfast was great—standard hotel breakfast buffet items, yes—though it was all prepared by the chef using excellent culinary technique. The eggs were fluffy and well-seasoned, the potatoes were perfectly cooked, the bacon crispy & moist, and the sausage had a perfect snap-to-juicy ratio.
The service was also excellent. Su-Min, in particular, had been our server at the conference and her friendliness, hospitality, and genuine-ness was a big part of why we came back. I’ve done a fair amount of customer service work myself in this context, and it’s clear she has a personal passion for making sure that we as customers felt really welcome and cared for. This is not something one can teach— she just has what it takes.
The colleagues we were meeting even commented on the quality of the experience. We plan to make the hotel our go-to for breakfast/brunch meetings going forward. (Oh, and there’s an excellent floor-to-ceiling view across the Charles of Kenmore Square, Back Bay, and downtown.) Five stars!

The room was fantastic! Loved the layout, lights under the bed, hangers actually fit the hook on the bathroom door, cold bottled water, separate dressing area with a bench, clock in bathroom mirror (way cool!), and room fan/air conditioning that actually worked! Also, the restaurant food more than exceeded our expectations!!! Delicious!!! Overall stay for a work trip was 10+++. Thank you!

This is a good location in Cambridge, at edge of MIT campus. We were charged a $20 daily destination charge, which covered such things as wifi, bicycles, and a supposed $10 food credit at the cafe. Be warned that the front desk will credit you the $10 only if you eat at the upstairs cafe. If you try to do a takeout to get the credit, the staff there will make it difficult and send you downstairs to the coffee bar. The front desk, however, will not give you credit if you buy from the coffee bar. This is either a problem of poorly informed or trained staff, or a system to make it hard for guests to get the full benefit of what they were charged for. Overall result is frustrated and unhappy guests. One other thing - we stayed 6 nights, and requested standard housekeeping service for the room. That worked fine, except on the last night we came back to the hotel late, only to find out that the room had not been serviced at all. We called the front desk, and were told that the hotel was very busy, so housekeeping missed us. That seems to be a really bad excuse.

Our stay at the Hyatt Regency Boston/Cambridge was leg 2 of our trip to New England, and my hubby and our twin college-bound children were greeted with two connecting rooms with a king bed and a couch facing the TV in one room and twin beds in the other. The king bed room had motion sensitive lights at the bottom of the bed so that we didn't stumble in the dark and we didn't have to turn on a light to find our way around the room. The beds were comfortable and we had ample pillows (hubby and I each use two). Our twins were content to have their own space. The shower had great water pressure (a must have for the hubby), and the lighting and ventilation kept the bathroom comfortable despite the humid Boston weather. The thermostat was responsive to our desired temp and was quiet, so we slept well without the usual noises that tend to wake us in a new place. Both mornings we ate at the Paper Tavern, which had a great selection of choices for all of us. The hotel had a game area on the main floor, a lovely garden, and plenty of areas to sit and relax indoors as well. There is an escalator to take you up/down between the first and second floors. One of the phones in our room had a dead battery, and maintenance promptly arrived to replace it. The hotel recently replaced all the single-use toiletries with generous dispenser style shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and lotion. The curtains opened and closed easily, and there were both sheers and blackout curtains (the hubby prefers a completely dark room for sleeping). There was a baseball game at Fenway Park, and we were treated to a fireworks display and a beautiful view of the Charles River.
We were very close to several university campuses (MIT, Boston University, and Northeastern), and we took the opportunity to tour the area and get a sense of life on these campuses. The hotel concierge recommended that we sample the local seafood at the Barking Crab (which was delicious), visit the wharf, and sample the delicious pastry at Bova's Bakery, as well as dine at an amazing Italian restaurant, Trattoria Il Panino. We also took in a tour of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, which made for a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. We used the valet service to park the car, and it was brought out immediately upon checking out of the hotel, and they always greeted us with a smile.
We will definitely add this hotel to our list of places to stay in Boston when we're next in town

It's been a while since we've been to an event at the Hyatt Regency Boston Cambridge, so we were curious to see how the hotel was stacking up. The physical layout of the hotel is interesting, with a large atrium and exposed glass elevators. There's function space on the first couple of levels, plus ballrooms up on 14 to 16 with nice views of the Charles River. It's not the largest amount of function space, but it was adequate.
The stepped-ziggurat style to the hotel looks interesting, and means there's a bunch of rooms with exterior terraces, and a few with balconies out into the atrium. Otherwise, quite a few have views of the river, and the rest of Cambridge. The hotel isn't hard to drive to from the Cambridge exist off the Mass Pike. It's not that close to other parts of Cambridge, being right against the river, basically right at the end of the large chunk of MIT property. Fortunately, the combination of the Paperback Tavern, a sit-down restaurant offering typically breakfast and dinner, and Paperback Provisions, a quick-service spot on the first floor for coffee, snacks, and light fare. Fortunately also these days it's easy to also get food delivered if you prefer.
The Paperback Tavern was very nice, with noticeable high-quality food. Maria and the other waitresses, and the woman who greeted us, were all very nice, and did a great job. Sometimes there can be a wait for a table at the Paperback Tavern, so plan ahead, or make a reservation online.
Most rates will wind up paying a $20 daily destination fee, which entitles you to several things like the gym, a couple bottles of water per day, a hotel shuttle (with limited Cambridge destinations, probably not the airport, but include the T (MBTA) station, and $10 credit per day at Paperback Tavern. However, if you're on an event rate, you may get these benefits without paying that fee, so you might want to check on that. The parking garage is not that big, so during large events finding a spot may be difficult.

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Boston/Cambridge for a family vacation. The Hotel is spacious and clean, as well as our room. I recommend a Riverview room if your able to snag one. The only 'ding' I can point out is the onsite restaurant (Paperback Tavern). The quality and portion size of the food offered is mediocre compared to the price point. If your in a pinch it will do, just don't expect much. I would recommend planning to eat offsite for all meals. You will pay the same amount and receive a much better quality product.
This particular location offers a complementary shuttle that will drop-off/pickup at 5 different locations within Cambridge. I recommend taking advantage of this to assist with your exploring adventures!

This is an older hotel but it is kept very clean. Perfect location in Cambridge next to an amazing walk for miles along the river in both directions. The front desk was warm and welcoming. As a Globalist, I was upgraded to the Cambridge Suite, which was large and has a gorgeous view. The room could use less Febreze and the shower ceiling was in need of repair. The bathroom featured two sinks and an oversized shower. There was a work space and a comfortable sofa in the living room and a dining table as well as an interior balcony. Plenty of closet space as well.
The room service menu had plenty of options, but was annoying to order via a QR code. It was impossible to reach anyone using the buttons on the phone. I had to use my cell. The food was inedible and not as described. Wings with cacio e pepe sauce had basic ranch dressing. The hummus was horrible and contained carrots and celery that were impossible to chew and soggy, broken sweet potato chips.
Breakfast was decent but not worthy of the Hyatt Regency brand. The menu had great options, but the quality of eggs and the acai bowl were not good.
This location is missing a lounge, which was disappointing. On the plus side, the lobby has many seating areas, large Jenga and Connect Four games and a place to send postcards free of charge. The grounds are beautiful and the flowers and plants really made the outside look fabulous.
The manager is excellent and focused on customer service.

Dear Jacoba, Thank you for choosing Hyatt Regency Boston/Cambridge. We're glad you enjoyed our prime location, our attention to cleanliness, and the warm welcome from our front desk team. While the upgrade to the Cambridge Suite with its gorgeous views was appreciated, we note your concerns about the room’s condition and the quality of the room service. We’ll address these issues to improve our offerings, and we hope to provide you with an even better stay next time.

1. The location and view were excellent. 2. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. 3. Dining service was outstanding, especially Lauren, who was very helpful and informative about shuttle services and local attractions. 4. Morning reception provided swift and efficient service. 5. The games in the hallway added a fun touch.
Areas for Improvement:
1. Room service quality did not meet Hyatt standards. The bed sheets weren’t changed, and certain areas like behind the TV and the changing area were dusty. 2. The check-out process was uncomfortable. A room service worker attempted to enter the room without adequate notice. 3. Check-in experience at 11 pm was not welcoming. As an Explorist member, I was surprised to be charged for an upgrade and had to request basic information about accommodations and dining. 4. Soundproofing between rooms needs improvement. Noise from neighboring rooms was quite disruptive after midnight. 5. Ice vending machines were not available on every floor.
While I appreciate the positive aspects of my stay, these issues made my experience less than ideal. I’m hesitant to choose this as my top accommodation option in the future. Soundproofing the rooms and enhancing room service quality could greatly improve the guest experience.

I stayed here for business for several nights. Since it is not a resort hotel, you cannot expect a view of the other side of the riverbank. There is also no balcony. I requested a Deluxe 1King Bed, but the room was spacious with one sofa, a shower booth without a bathtub, and a toilet without a washlet. There were no particular amenities. There was a coffee maker in the room, and four flavors were provided free of charge. A casual restaurant and bar are available, and the service is average. The portions are large, as is typical of the United States. Please note that there are no convenience stores or supermarkets nearby as it is located on the outskirts of the vast MIT campus! A mini shuttle is available, and it is quite convenient if the route is right.
