I was traveling with my dog so I reserved a room at The Commonwealth and we loved it. There is a lovely dog friendly park just across the street, the rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished and the staff was welcoming & helpful. It was a win-win for me & Chica
My husband and I just returned from a fabulous 1 night stay at The Commonwealth for a date weekend staycation and we had a fabulous time! We decided to book at The Commonwealth due to the great reviews, location of the hotel and we wanted to stay somewhere historical with some charm. Everything was great from check-in to check-out! There is construction around one side of the building and we weren't quite sure at first what to do with our car when we pulled to the front to check-in, but the amazing staff let us know that we could valet our car or find street parking for free since we were there no a weekend. We opted for street parking for convenience and found a spot a block away. The staff at The Commonwealth are absolutely fantastic. They are honestly some of the nicest people I've encountered at a hotel! Every single person we met at the front desk and valet were so hospitable, kind, helpful and full of fantastic recommendations. A+ service! One thing to note that I noticed in some reviews before checking in is that the size of the elevators are really tiny. This is a super historical 100+ year old hotel, so the hotel has some quirks like that, but it's all part of the charm! My husband, me and a luggage cart were able to fit in there without a problem. Our room was really great. We booked a 1 bedroom king suite and it was beautiful! We had a great view of the Capitol grounds on the 9th floor, it was very spacious, clean and quiet. We loved it! There were a few things in the bathroom that could be adjusted just in the shower with some wear and tear, but nothing bad. The location of The Commonwealth is unbeatable -- we were walking distance to all of the great restaurants, coffee shops, Shockhoe neighborhood and Capitol Grounds -- we even did a ghost tour on the Capitol grounds and it was so convenient to be right across the street. Overall, we had a fabulous getaway at The Commonwealth and would absolutely stay here again! Thanks for a fantastic time!…
The water for shower never got hot. The view was sickening and the AC unit sounded like a jack hammer. Glad I was only there for one night. I have attended political receptions here and they acceptable. I expected more.
The set up of the suite was definitely grabbing. Big and spacious. View was alright, didn’t know there wasn’t a balcony or anything (understandable here) but the shower was super big and looked awesome until you try to turn up the water. The pressure was so little you could hardly rinse yourself off. My partner couldn’t wash her hair cause it was have taken her an hour to rinse it all out. The pubic hair in bathroom, bathroom counter and dresser is what did it for me. Was DEFINITELY NOT WORTH $333 at all. I could have gone to another hotel and stayed longer for that price.
My friend and I loved our stay at the Commonwealth. The front desk clerk, Christina, went above and beyond to be helpful and was so friendly. We had a drink at Rueger's and the bartender there was also super helpful and friendly. Our room was spacious with lovely art. Beds were comfortable. A great experience!
We come to Richmond once or twice per year to see our daughter, and usually stay in the Hilton for the points. This year, with rates so high, we looked elsewhere and rolled the dice on The Commonwealth. And we won! This downtown hotel place right across from the capitol was a real find. We stayed in a king mini suite (The Franklin) which was huge! Staff here were great, friendly and helpful. Sarah at the bar took care of us after we got back from the Flying Squirrels game. And the valet team was always able to get our car quickly even with chaos around them. The beds are marvelously comfortable and the shower, though a bit short for 6’2” me was excellent. The hotel is near to everything downtown and getting here was fairly easy as it is close to the highway. Overall, good value for the money.…
The Commonwealth has renewed my confidence in the hotel industry. The place was beautiful, clean and well-staffed with friendly people. I cannot think of anything negative about this hotel. I will definitely stay there again while in Richmond.
We stayed in a suite and from the moment we walked in until we left this place was amazing! Everyone on staff, valet, front desk, restaurant, housekeeping, were absolutely courteous, attentive and so detail orientated. The room was spectacular, roomy and beautiful. I will definitely return here when I come back. Totally made our trip an amazing one..
Another great Experience at the Commonwealth! Great location, great room, great staff and perfect for my needs! I would highly recommend the venue for business or leisure travel, especially if you have business near the Capital. Very convenient to a great selection of food! Cannot wait to return!
Art Deco look and very comfortable beds. Good location for downtown sights and restaurants. Staff were very accommodating. Valet $30 per night, service is quick. Coffee shop one block over is very good. If you like a gorgeous hotel this felt like a luxurious stay
