The DB San Antonio Resort & Spa garners mixed reviews with guests commending its spacious rooms and high cleanliness standards, though some note issues with air conditioning and noise. The variety of amenities, including dining and entertainment, are popular, but the main pool's size sometimes falls short for visitors. Staff friendliness receives high marks, yet service hiccups occur.
While the bustling atmosphere delights many, for others, it detracts from the charm. The hotel's location is a highlight, providing easy access to local attractions.

Detailed Reviews
We had an all inclusive 10 day stay over Christmas and despite not feeling great in the last few days (came over with a plane load of people coughing and sneezing) we would recommend this hotel.
A slight negative would be the rubbish level of equipment and games available to the lovely and hard working animation team !
For such a large 4* hotel they all worked with a dismally small range of games to play for the guests.
Boule (Bocci) was ok and played on a large sanded enclosed area near the pool.
Just one set of old brass darts which were blunt and years old with flight stems broken (we bought them a new set locally) but the old crappy board standing on a flimsy music stand was rubbish and they kept falling out.
The Shuffleboard was always fun but looked like it had been handmade years ago.
Apart from those activities there was nothing else to play !
In Spain last year we had a large Connect 4 game, adult sized Hooplah and lots more activity games to play which made for a great level of activities for all guests to enjoy.
For a large 4* Hotel please, please spend some cash for your superb animation crew to use to add a LOT more games for guests to get involved with ???
Gary & Val (Kent England)
Anyway we had a great time overall so love and best wishes for 2020 to Xhesila Hoxha, Xhenisa Qose, Catherine Louise LM and the tall Tunisian guy who was always happy, smiling and hugging everyone :-)

Fantastic holiday at this excellent hotel in Malta. Staff were lovely and really helpful, food excellent with lots of variety at every meal, served hot and freshly prepared. The rooms were very clean and spacious, with a free safe, free wifi, and tea making facilities including a fridge. We had all inclusive with standard double room. The hotel is situated right by the beach and bus depot , we bought a bus card for €15 which had 12 trips on it which we shared and explored the Island, both within walking distance. (even with an 85 year old). Bus timetable can be picked up from reception and bus depot. While at the hotel we went on 2 boat trips, around the harbour and to Gozo and Camino Island, info from reception at hotel. The hotel tries to be as environmentally friendly as possible by supplying each guest with a bottle of water on arrival and then they have fresh still and sparkling water stations in reception where you can refill your bottle as often as you like at no extra charge. Definitely the best 4* hotel I have ever stayed in, can't wait to return again.Elaine Paul and Joan (3/3/20)

We enjoyed an excellent long stay in this large hotel, which is the best hotel we have experienced in Malta. We stayed on an ‘all inclusive’ basis in a quiet ‘pool view’ room on the ninth floor with excellent views of St. Paul’s Bay. The room was spacious and modern and was cleaned daily with regular changes of towels and bedding. All the staff were very professional, friendly and helpful.
The lift system in the hotel was one we had not encountered before but was very efficient in moving people between floors.
The choice and quality of food/restaurants was excellent, and the opportunity to experience a couple of speciality restaurants was a real bonus. There are actually additional speciality restaurants within the hotel but these were not open out of season.
The proximity of the bus station was another advantage for getting around the island.
The Cafe Maroc at the front of the hotel was very (too?) convenient for drinks and cakes.
Overall we can highly recommend this hotel and we certainly hope to return next year.

The positives of this hotel were the excellent staff, the main buffet restaurant which is open throughout the day and the general cleanliness throughout the hotel. Unfortunately, it is located in a very run down area (which is saying something for Malta). Because there are very few decent bars or restaurants adjacent, you are very dependent on your all inclusive package. The only place to get an alcoholic drink is in the main restaurant during the day and the cosy bar at night. There is another so called snack bar opposite the reception but this serves no real purpose as it is limited in what it serves and only a few items are available on your all inclusive package. Obviously, March is out of season so guest were limited to what facilities could be used. Fair play to the hotel for laying on evening entertainment (even though it was terrible). Even in peak season I don’t think the hotel has enough variety of bars or restaurants to keep guests entertained. Our biggest gripes would probably be the noise that is made throughout the day. For around six hours every day all we could hear were doors slamming and furniture being dragged along the floor (presumably by the maids). The rooms are clean and a comfortable size however, the bed was very uncomfortable. We went to Malta for a birthday abroad and chose this location purely because of how cheap it was in comparison to a short break in European cities. I most definitely would not return to Malta under any circumstances. The people are quite rude in comparison to other holiday destinations (except for the hotel staff who were excellent) and the island is very run down and in need of some major investment. Malta is not a pretty or picturesque island at all, but it is worth jumping on a 212 bus that is located next to the hotel and going up to St Juliens bay. It’s only a 20 minute bus ride and only costs around 2 Euros. We did both have a couple’s massage in the spa, but it wasn’t worth the €140 we paid for it. I wouldn’t recommend Malta to anyone, but if you are considering it then the dB San Antonio is a decent enough hotel for your holiday, however, don’t expect anything other than average, you clearly get what you pay for!

Dear ScottLRW, On behalf of the management and staff I would like to thank you for sharing your experience with us on TripAdvisor. We do our utmost to Provide, Achieve and Improve quality service. It is with such constructive comments that we can achieve better. Whilst we are pleased to read that the rooms and the cleaning were to your satisfaction we disappointed to read that overall we did not meet your expectations. The management wish to clarify that our main restaurant was open for breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks & dinner. The Cafe Maroc is open all day whilst the Kozy bar is open from 16:00hrs which includes the evening entertainment. Animation area is open all day. Tagine & dBistro are all open for dinner. We have taken note of your constructive comment related to the evening entertainment and we have brought it to the attention of the managing director. During the weekly management meeting we have addressed your comments with our Housekeeper and Spa Manager. It would have been greatly appreciated if you brought to the attention of the management to ensure that the inconvenience is not repeated throughout your stay. We would have also recommended you to visit places like Mdina, Valletta, Malta, Gozo & Comino, besides the historical museums and temples. Once again we apologise if we did not meet your expectation. Should you decide to return to Malta please contact me directly. Best Regards, Jonathan Pisani Assistant General Manager E: jpisani@dbhotelsresorts.com

This is a hard review to write as we arrived on 12th March and the next day the Maltese Govt. imposed quarantine restrictions on new arrivals so this very huge hotel was like the Marie Celeste by the time we left on 19th. Our room was comfortable but very basic. No wardrobe just hanging rail and very little storage areas. Bathroom was very nice, large walk in power shower and ok hairdryer. No toiletries provided, just a dual purpose shampoo/shower gel bottle on the wall. Room was kept very clean but we did have issues with cleaners just walking in unannounced a couple of times and ignoring our requests to come back later. We were not particularly impressed with the food, breakfast was probably the best meal of the day. All the rooftop facilities were closed, but it was quiet around the main pool. The indoor pool was very dark and not inviting, I did use it a few times, but half way through the week it was closed due to govt. restrictions along with the gym and Cafe Maroc. The staff in the hotel were without exception lovely and we really hope they come through the current problems and can get back to their jobs soon. I doubt we'd return to this hotel as it was a bit too big for our liking and was in a very rundown area.

Had an amazing time at San Antonio in October 2019. Our 5th yearly stay and still a rewarding experience thanks to the dedicated staff.
Meal times are a sheer pleasure - the variety and quality of food is fantastic. The alternative specialist restaurants offer equally magnificent food and service. Our room is bright and comfortable and cleaned etc each day,
The surrounding area is worth exploring and a bonus is the bus service to the airport departing less than 100 metres from the hotel.
No wonder we return to this hotel each year since our first stay.

+1
I would not worry about the reviews you read on here, if you do you will miss out on a fab hotel. Check in was easy, the lady at reception gave us our wrist bands before check in so we could start enjoying the facilities.
Restaurants were easy to book, yes it’s frustrating having to stick to a regime with meal times but you soon get use to it. The speciality ones you have to book in advance so do those first.
Food choices are really good, there is a specific kids menu as well if they won’t eat what’s on offer. Puddings are great also, good selection of salad, fruit and drinks on offer. Overall really good. Staff are great, very attentive. Bear in mind that 3 years and over have to wear a mask in the restaurants/bars.
Evening entertainment is good, very talented but it is pretty much the same singing/dancing every night but it is really good, mini disco for the kids. Talented group of performers.
Rooms are a fine size for a family if 4, air con isn’t great but it’s 10 times better than not having anything. It’s nice to come back in the evening to it as it’s much cooler than outside.
The beach across from the hotel isn’t sand, it’s stinky and it hurts your feet when you walk on it, you may be tougher than us but for us it wasn’t nice.
Definitely download ecabs this is an app on your phone to get taxis cheaper and quicker. Don’t waste your money on the ones the hotel have as you save money doing it via cabs. It’s a great app.
Make sure you take a trip to Valletta and Mdina, such stunning places and full of history.
Malta is extremely warm; make sure you bring extra bottles of sunscreen as it’s expensive to buy out here. You will need factor 50+ for sure, especially if you have children.
The pools are great, there is a infinity pool on the roof which is adults only, the main two pools on the lower ground are more family orientated,. There is a hydro therapy pool for 16+ as well and a pirate ship pool for kids as well.
Loungers are fine to get, we like being at the front so we can keep an eye on the kids, I go down before breakfast at 7am to put our towels out; there are plenty available though.
Kids club isn’t on like it would be normally, but the animation team are around doing various activities throughout the day. Only downfall I would say but due to Covid these things have to be done.
Overall, really happy with our stay. We were due to fly back today, but we decided to stay an extra 4 days and fly back Thursday. I would recommend this hotel for sure.
Just know that things won’t be as normal as before due to Covid, plenty of handful around.

We went to Malta for 5 days with the family of 4 on the 1st of January. I only booked short break in the family room with seaview, but we got a massive suite with full size kitchen, separate bedroom and 2 bathrooms which was a nice surprise. The room was spotless and very comfortable although we only spent a little time in there. We were checked in quickly and still have time for lunch, and with it being New Years day the lunch was great with live music and chocolate fountain. After lunch our children went straight to the kids club and we went to the bar. We had very pleasant afternoon but didn't manage the pool as it was closed early without any notice, which was a slight disappointment. Evening entertainment was great starting with kids disco and then grown up shows. Loads of free tables at the bar and nice coctails (snow man was our favourite). There was a second bar set up with great bartenders, showing off their coctail making skills, very impressive. Next days were a bit quieter and only picked up on the last day (Sunday). The food was nice, loads to choose from, pizza every day (for my son's joy), and many vegetarian dishes (my joy). Breakfasts were ok, could do with more fresh fruit. The restaurant could be busy sometimes as they were selling meals for people from outside but we always had a table and there were never queues for food. There was always a snack bar set up in different venues for late lunch which was good for us as we travelled a lot and were often back late. Burgers, pizza, salads, scones, sandwiches- loads of choices. The hotel is nicely set near the sea although no beach anywhere. But plenty of walks and bust stop just around the corner. We had a really nice stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone, especially families with young children as our kids loved mini club and evening mini disco. I would happily give 5☆ till the last morning incident. Obviously with AI there were signs not to take food out of restaurant but I've seen loads of people doing it, having plates of food at the pool or just taking them to their rooms. We were leaving righ after early breakfast and wouldn't have time to go to any shops so only made a couple of sandwiches for my kids to take with us. We didn't hide it or anything and we were stopped at the door by the women almost shouting not to take it out. She made us to leave those sandwiches despite the fact they would get wasted. Come on, 2 cheese sandwiches, which ended up in the bin, not full plates of food. It upset our boy as he really liked the hotel's bread rolls, I think the hotel should be a bit more flexible with their policies or a bit more consistent.

Overall a great hotel with great value for money, situated in a quiet, yet tourist area close to several shops, restaurants and the Bugibba Piazza.
We stayed in a suite and the room was clean, quiet and bed was very comfortable with great air conditioning. The only minor issue was one of the bathroom doors was hard to slide to close and did not lock.
Food was sufficient and tasty and staff are well organized during the tough Covid-19 times and helped to make the experience as safe and as pleasurable as possible.
Pool areas were clean, and although the pools are not very deep for adults, it was still fun. A selection of cocktails and drinks from the bar were also free with the all inclusive low price package offered.
Entertainment at night was lively and fun, I did Karaoke myself :-) and again most drinks even alcoholic drinks were free and included in the price.
Keep it up!

Have stayed at the "db Seabank" for the last four years in January - February so this year we spent 10 nights at the db Seabank and then moved onto the "db San Antonio" for the rest of our holiday and for me there is no comparison the db Seabank wins in every way. It would take too long to write a full review of the San Antonio so I will list the main dislikes, All roof top facilities are closed, the only bar available doesn't open until the evening and is in the theatre which is small and gets full well before curtain up . If you want a drink before the main bar opens you have to go to the Café for beer, wine ,etc , take a seat and wait to be served at your table. Looked like regulars, if they wanted to take a drink away, could ask at the counter and were served but when I tried it I was told to take a seat.
The main restaurant is dark and unwelcoming and the food is not as good a standard as the Seabank. There are two other evening restaurants that open only on certain days of the week and you need to book early. The Indian where the food is bad but the a la carte restaurant is good.
The rooms are ok but there is just a rail to hang clothing on looks untidy, they have spent some money on the bathroom but then put a cheap, thin, plastic curtain up for the shower, the edge of the shower tray is shallow and lets water run all the way down to the toilet which by the way is lower to the floor than a standard toilet, if you are tall you could struggle with that one and just to mention
I have never slept on such a hard bed before.
The hotel is chaotic at weekends when the Locals turn up to stay for two or three nights they make it a family weekend and it gets so noisy. The animation team were mainly invisible unless they were having a coffee in the shop.
Worst of all the hotel houses the local " Time Share Office / torture chamber" its in the main business suite, people are dragged off the street and spend hours in there. We walked to the Aquatic centre one day and we were stopped five times by touts, they eventually get to recognise you and leave you alone but initially its a pain. I could go on , there is a lot more that's wrong ,think mostly because its badly managed and I keep comparing it with the Seabank. I think the San Antonio management need to spend some time at the Seabank and see how it should be done. You can try it for yourself, the San Antonio obviously suits some people but I will not be going back.
