I have been to this hotel quite a few times for short breaks. The food at all mealtimes is delicious and there are various items to choose from. The desserts are divine. At breakfast avoid the orange juice, it is actually the powdered version and tastes vile. The newly refurbished buffet restaurant is awesome as are the new rooms. On this visit we stayed in one of the old rooms and could see the difference having stayed in one of the new rooms before. The roof top pool area is huge but I only used the pool once because the smell of chlorine was very strong. I much prefer the deeper pool across the street. There are a lot of sunbeds available for both pools and a great access to the sea.
Reception service is still abysmal despite the refurbishment and this time it was worse! The person checking us in, (who was seeing to other guests while checking us in despite previously saying they had to wait!), did not register our payment and instead of checking with me directly, reception sent a maintenance person with very bad English, to see when I had arrived (I think because I couldn't comprehend what he was trying to communicate). Then someone left me a note under the door to speak to reception. This is not professional service, they should have checked directly with me. I was made to feel like a criminal, when I had actually paid and had the documents to prove it. Again on checking out as usual no-one bothered to ask about our stay, they didn't care. For this reason, next time round I have decided to go elsewhere for my break. It is a pity that an otherwise very good hotel, cannot put their reception services in order!

This hotel suffers from bad press and it's amazing how different the reviews are. Stayed with my son for a week and had a room on the 10th floor. Having stayed here 6 years ago, we knew this would be a newer room and it did not disappoint. It was huge! The bathroom had a walk-in shower and the room was serviced daily, by friendly and attentive staff.
2 minor issues, the beds are very firm and the air-conditioning wasn't as powerful as we would have liked on very hot days, but it was adequate during the night.
The 11th floor pool and sunbeds were very relaxing and enjoyed great views. The staff were friendly at the bar and for non all-inclusive guests like us, the prices seemed reasonable.
The lifts are a law unto themselves, but if this ruins your holiday, you need to chill (1st world problems and all that).
I never feel 4* in most of Europe's holiday dest equates to 4* British standards, so I'm happy to accept the 'quirks' as part of the holiday experience.
Breakfast had more choice than many hotels we've stayed in, and it never seemed to run short. All in all, this hotel and its staff delivered a very enjoyable 7 days and we would happily return (asking for a 10th floor room and enduring the lift lottery!)

I couldn’t decide between 3 and 4 stars, but have gone for 4 because overall we enjoyed our stay.

We arrived before check in and were able to store our bags and use the facilities for the day. When we got our room at 3pm the aircon wasn’t working properly. They quickly sent maintenance to fix this but it still didn’t work. They sent a second person who got water all over our floor trying to fix it - we didn’t really have access to our room until around 7:30pm. The aircon was better after this but not great, however was bearable for the trip. When we went to bed we also discovered the lock on our door didn’t work. It did automatically lock when shut, but we could not double lock it from the inside. The room overall was fine, we didn’t have a sea view room and the balcony was tiny (literally only for 2 plastic chairs with no room to move). The beds were also very hard. The rest of the room was just your average hotel room, and you’re given a vase to fill up with drinking water from around the hotel.

I never have high expectations for all inclusive food, but the food here went above my expectations. Breakfast and lunch were served at the main buffet. Dinner was also served here everyday, however you could book into each of the other restaurants once during your stay (2 of these are buffet, and one table service). The food at the main buffet got quite repetitive, however dining at the other restaurants meant it didn’t feel like we were having the same food everyday. The staff were also really attentive to the member of our party with cealiac disease, they were happy to show us what in the buffet was gluten free and also to make separate gluten free dishes. There was also gluten free bread and cake on request.
The hotel could definitely do with another restaurant that serves food all day, because if you’re hungry during the day the main buffet is the only location to get food, and because of the size of the hotel it can be a bit inconvenient to get there.

We mainly used the rooftop pool which is adults only. The view from here was amazing and we never struggled to find a sunbed. There was a bar up here to get drinks from.
The all inclusive drinks weren’t great, but I was expecting this from my experience with other all inclusives.

The staff were all lovely, initially we were slightly concerned on our first day when the lady at the desk was very inpatient when we were telling her about our aircon, but other than this we only have positive things to say about the staff.

On the last day our flight wasn’t until late. We were able to use the pool, however our all inclusive wristbands were taken off of us which meant we had to buy any food and drinks. I’ve never experienced this at an all inclusive before, and we probably wouldn’t have booked late flights home if we knew this would be the case.

I wouldn’t say the hotel is 4*, however we were not expecting this for the price we paid. Overall we really enjoyed our holiday, however the hotel definitely has its flaws and may not be for everyone.

Great stay.

Smooth check in

Something for everyone at the AI buffet, soup, pasta, meat, fish, veg, potatoes, chips, salad, rice, basic pasta, nuggets/fish fingers, cold meats, cheeses and deserts.

Balcony layout is very overlooked on the internal rooms, I would get a pool/sea view for privacy next time. No noise can be heard once the balcony door was closed, so that was great. Room was very clean and comfortable.

Plenty of sunbeds around the pool and it was kept very tidy.

Evening entertainment was a singer or a quiz while we were there.

Didn't get the opportunity to try the adults only rooftop pool.

All in all, very pleasantly surprised. A great stay.

There are two nice pool areas. Strangely, however, the hotel seems to like to keep the rooftop pool somewhat of a secret. I stayed at the hotel for over two weeks and did not hear about the rooftop pool until 3 days before my departure. I spoke with several other guests who were also unaware of the rooftop pool. It is adult-only and tended to have a couples vibe, so I suspect they try to keep the crowds down up there. It's not right, though, when people are paying for it. The lower pool area is larger and has more of a family and partying scene. Those two vibes can contradict a bit. Also, the lower pool closes for swimming at 6pm when entertainment takes over the pool area. That is much too early, especially during the intense heat of the summer, to close it down each night. In addition, the hotel makes you wear a wristband 24x7 during your stay in order to access the pool areas and also to access the cafeterias if you have meals included in your package. That is very uncomfortable for a longer stay and also in the intense summer heat. The plastic also wears out over time. Mine came off after 10 days while swimming in the sea. I forgot and then went to the lower pool area where I was totally berated by the staff as if I were someone that had sneaked in off of the street. They would not even begin to listen to me when I tried to explain what had happened. I thought they were going to have me arrested. I did get a new wristband later that day but was extremely embarrassed and wished I could have just gone someplace else to stay for the remainder of my trip. Surely, there must be another method of proving you are a guest of the hotel without being forced to wear a wristband day and night. Other hotels across the world seem to handle it. My cafeteria package included breakfast. It was clean and decent except for extremely watered-down juices out of the machine, and the food choices were exactly the same every day. It's also like a herd of cattle in the cafeteria during the later part of the breakfast period; it totally reminded me of a high school cafeteria in that regard. There are many small restaurants in the area offering breakfast. If you are not pressed for time in the mornings, I would recommend not getting the cafeteria package and exploring the area restaurants, at your leisure, for breakfast. One more thing is that the adjacent restaurant is extremely slow, and they will often ignore you after you are seated or after taking your order. I ate there twice and that was enough. This hotel has it's good points with the pool areas (not considering the wristband rule) and location, but there are many other hotels in the area that would likely be nicer and more accomodating to their guests.

Checked in at 1 but room wasn’t ready until after 3:30pm. We were given a card for the luggage store and our all inclusive bands while we waited

Pool area is in need of some TLC. Pools are cold and larger pool is deep
There was never a shortage of sun loungers no matter what time of day, I’d say around 40% were always unoccupied

Pool bar service was quick and staff friendly

Pool side toilets (which double up as the toilets for the evening entertainment) need to be be monitored more frequently. Not the cleanest and never any paper towels or soap to wash hands

Access into the sea was great. Definitely a plus point. Excellent area to snorkel

Room was a good size. We were in an internal room and it was very overlooked by other balcony’s. Rooms directly opposite could see right into the room if the curtain was pulled back

Rooms cleaned daily, fresh towels given even when hung up to reuse, these were always swapped for fresh

Hotel provided wine and cakes for my husbands birthday which was a lovely touch

Food was excellent. Very tasty, great options, not too many that you are overwhelmed. Could do with more choice for children, maybe pancakes and waffles in the morning

All inclusive drinks were great. As were the small tubs of ice cream

Staff are so friendly

Entertainment is outside by the pool which in the heat was uncomfortable to sit and watch. Also had to use the pool side toilets which again were not great however towards the end of our stay Lume restaurant opened and new toilets were opened just inside the hotel so these could be used instead

Overall we would return

This is one of the most difficult reviews i've had to write, and i'm still thinking about the hotel. My husband and I have just returned from a two week stay at this hotel. On arrival we were attended to by a lovely member of staff, check in was quick. We went to our room, opened the curtains and wow, what a view! We had paid for a sea view and it was so worth it. Our room was good, the bed and pillows were comfy. The bathroom, however, was another story. The bathroom needed a complete refurbishment, it had bad mould on the ceiling, the shower tray was badly stained, and there were rust marks that could have easily been removed on the walls. The bin in the bathroom was only emptied evert three to four days. There were bits of cotton and long black hair in the shower. There was always a sunbed available. The parasols were really large, which was great. There was often a queue at the poolside bar, but the staff worked hard to serve people. We were told that the pool bar was only open on Tuesday evenings, this was a big disappointment as we don't go on holiday to sit inside. However, it opened on random other nights ??? We were AI but went to local bars in the evening as previously said, we don't want to sit in a cold, air-conditioned room with loud music on a beautiful, warm night, just our choice. The food in the main restaurant was really good, we didn't try the other restaurants. They really needed more staff to clear the tables. The lifts were fine, we were on the 5th floor and never had an issue. We had a terrible smell in the bathroom which was dealt with quickly after bringing to staff's attention, however it returned intermittently over the rest of our stay, you could also smell it occasionally around the pool. Check out was 11 a.m which was earlier than any other hotel we've stayed in. Also, once you've checked out there is no more AI. We were picked up at 9.30 so it didn't affect us, we have never experienced this before and we take 4 holidays abroad every year. This hotel has massive potential, it is in a prime location with beautiful views, it just needs some updating and attention to detail.

We come to Malta in 4 weeks in august and December 1 week January another week and in March.we normally stay at seabank in Mellieha but we thought we would check out your hotel as we visited it in December and looked around .So we booked for this January from the 14 until 21st of January .We phoned up from uk because we we’re arriving after midnight we asked if they would be a snack when we arrived they said yes got to hotel they only. Had 1 sandwich left between the 3 of us which was not good if we had known we would have picked up something from airport. On the Sunday we checked out they took our wrist band off and said we couldn’t stay for lunch we were looking forward trying your Sunday lunch as the seabank is beautiful lunch very disappointing as we didn’t go down for breakfast as were told on the phone we could have lunch it was my birthday. The lady on reception was very rude and abrupt she said we had to pay 40€ each £140. We were a family of 3 my husband and myself and my Down syndrome son the rooms were very clean and the maids a
cleaners and restaurant staff were so polite my son didn’t like sitting in the middle of the restaurant so they reserved a table for us ,the food was beautiful we enjoyed it very much Yours sincerely John Sue and Matthew Tanti

We went as a family for Christmas

As from the beginning the reception staff wanted us to pay extra for our lunch and dinner even though we booked all inclusive, I wanted to talk to the manager but they kept refusing saying there is no need and we need to settle the payment. After a while we managed to talk to the manager and he said that there is no need to pay extra and we were right we paid all inclusive.

That only showed that there was lack of communication between the stuff and management and of course no customer service whatsoever.

Once we checked in, the receptionist explained that we need to book for the meals in the restaurant we'd like. We tried 3 times and they kept telling us to wait or come back sometime later. Until it was fully booked and we couldn't eat in the restaurant we chose, so they booked us in a different restaurant, on Christmas eve and left us hungry for the rest of the night as there was no food to choose from and a very small table serving buffet.

To continue our rest of the evening we went to a bar which was part of the all inclusive package for the night and the bartender didn't know that it was part of the all inclusive. Instead of telling us that he is going to check, he left us there for 20min sitting around a table with no service at all

Rooms were boiling hot and we couldn't sleep at night
No air-conditioning
No fan
Adding to that bad wifi and mobile reception

Very small indoor pool

Before leaving we went for a swim and left some clothes on the bed for us to change before checking out
Check out was at 11 , and when we went to our room at 10:30 , it was cleaned and they took all our belonging.

Honestly I never went to a hotel with such lack of service, poor customer service and saw the lack of communication where no one knows whats going on and no one can help you with anything you need during the day.

The only thing good in the hotel was the food at the main restaurant.

Surely not recommended 😕

Dear Z2380YVpamelab Thank you for staying at the Qawra Palace Resort & Spa and also for your detailed review shared on Tripadvisor. We appreciate your feedback shared of which is welcome and of value to us and our guests. We apologise for the misunderstanding found between the hotel and the tour operator but glad that the manager resolved it efficiently. As our festive season was busy, we did kindly request that guests book their Christmas Dinner and Christmas Day lunch in advance. This being done by the restaurants' booking kiosk, permits the reservations after 30mins after you have entered your checked in room. We also apologize for the delay regarding the all inclusive drinks but all premium drinks are at the guests' cost. If any discomfort was felt in rooms, a call to reception would have this resolved whether AC or a fan issue to assist the guests. We do apologize for your room service done prior to your check out but DND signs are available in rooms so that our staff know to not enter your room as yet. We would love you to contact us directly should you revisit Malta as we would love to host you again. Kind regards Lidia Lourenco Guest Relations Manager

Qwara Palace is a decent I would say 3/4 star hotel servicing the typical bargain priced all inclusive market. If you go in with this expectation, you won’t be disappointed.

On entering the hotel, The lobby area, although small, is smart and welcoming and the communal areas in general are well maintained.

The room was just ok - definitely needs updating and some furniture is tired / damaged.
I heard there is a programme of improvement. Our view was towards the inner courtyard which is not very nice and has a bit of a ‘communist block’ feel to it. So ensure you ask for a refurbished room with a sea view. Soap and shampoo are in dispensers, again reflective of the price you pay.

The all inclusive buffet is actually quite good, with a decent rotation of food and lots of variety. Only thing I would say is there could be more salad options. There is also a mid afternoon snack offering which also is good. However the pool bar area doesn’t have much all inclusive food items.

There are also three other restaurants to dine in which you are allowed to dine in once for free in a week period in each restaurant. The Asian and South American ones were particularly good.

One stand out feature of the hotel is the rooftop which has a lovely pool and great views out to the ocean. It does get quite busy though and no kids are allowed.

The small town of Bugibba is a lovely half hour walk via the sea promenade and has lots of nice shops and restaurants. One of particular mention if l you like Indian cuisine, is the Old Delhi which has excellent food and service. Close to the hotel are also smaller shops and a decent sized supermarket a 10 min walk away.

Valletta is easily accessible and Uber / Bolt are reasonably priced (about 20 euros each way).

Given the price paid, there are not many negatives about the hotel but one major gripe is that the outside bar by the pool closes far too early, especially if you want to relax by the sea. The immediate beach area is also not very nice and very rocky for swimming in.

Also do bear in mind that at this price point the clientele matches. I see other reviews mentioning a younger crowd and party vibe, but this is to be expected. There are also daily entertainment shows in the main theatre, but not really our thing, and we don’t have young children who would appreciate it.

Staff are generally friendly and helpful, although this is not consistent throughout the hotel.

All in all a good value hotel which does the job overall. But if you are looking for a classier, more upmarket place, then look elsewhere and be prepared to pay more.
