Buitreras Hotel is an improvable place. It is in the village of El Colmenar. Its menu is expensive and doesn't include fresh food, the meat isn't juicy. The waitress are nice and polite. The restaurant offers place and calm. In summary, the restaurant is a good place but the menu is curable.

Basic but clean food and drink very well priced. Breakfast was not great, cereal, biscuits and toast, but what really makes this place is the very friendly staff, my wife left her bag under table at night and is was kept safe by the staff until the morning. The views when you approach from the coast are amazing and the village was very quaint and surprisingly had a railway line and station which I found most unusual for the area. The area looked lively enough considering how far it was from the coast, but be warned the drive from the coast is not for the faint hearted very steep and windy for the first 30k but the road was wide enough for 2 cars. For the last 10k the road narrowed but it was is good condition and barriers were in place where needed. All in all it was worth the drive for something a bit different and I would defiantly consider going back again for a longer visit.

Stayed here for one night while walking from Ronda to Jimena de la Frontera down the beautiful Guadiaro valley with theuntravelledworld.com. I had booked a "bunkhouse" bed (I think there are conventional hotel-style rooms available) in advance by email. Initially, I was told that the place was fully booked but then I was told that I was lucky and that there had been a cancellation. When I got to the village of El Colmenar, I discovered that the hotel was quite hard to find and was misdirected by a couple of locals (probably the fault of my rubbish Spanish!); it is on the "other" side of the railway from the main village. I eventually found it, hot and very tired after the walk from Jimera de Libar, and was given a friendly welcome. There were perhaps ten bunks in my room and I had high hopes that I would be the only one staying (so I am not sure where the "cancellation" business came in). I had a good dinner in the restaurant, went to bed, and was woken at 2.20 am by someone coming into my room to sleep and then - about an hour later - by two of his friends; all of them needed showers, some food, and a good natter before they went to sleep. They were very apologetic (in Spanish) in the morning but I already knew (from many years experience) that bunkhouses were not really my cup of tea. In the morning I had an OK breakfast and then paid a very modest bill. Next time, I will try and get one of the hotel-style rooms!

This summer my sister and her 3 children came to Europe from the US and we went to Spain for 2 weeks. While we love visiting friends in Málaga, we also get tired of all the fellow tourists. We wanted to get into the heart of Andalucia and experience a more typical small town feel with a pool for cooling down and trails to walk. We found Hotel Rural Buitreras and stayed for 2 nights. We chose the option of breakfast, lunch and dinner included. What great food! Typical Spanish food with great Spanish red wines. How could there be more? The rooms are extremely clean, have air conditioning and are very quaint. There is even a room where about 14 people can fit for large back packing groups. We actually stayed in that room because there were 8 of us that went up because of all of the kids. It was fantastic. Take the time to get away and experience the great staff and wonderful views. www.ruralbuitreras.com
