The American Hotel Atlanta Downtown, a DoubleTree by Hilton, garners a spectrum of feedback from guests. Many appreciate its prime location near bustling attractions and commend the hotel for its cleanliness and comfortable accommodations. While some guests enjoy the fitness center and the views from their rooms, others find the rooms cramped and outdated, suggesting a need for refurbishment. The service receives mixed reviews, with mentions of both attentive staff and frustrating inefficiencies. Although the hotel's cleanliness is generally praised, issues like expensive valet parking and the value proposition—considered overpriced by some—tarnish the overall experience for travelers.

This is a fantastic hotel that harkens back to a simpler time. Tastefully decorated with 1950s classic era decor and memorobilia, the hotel is well located in Atlanta downtown, easy walking distance to attractions and restaurants and bars, and has very friendly and helpful staff. I got bumped up to a suite, which was very nice! Comfortable, well appointed and definitely a very nice hotel. I've stayed before, and I think this will remain my go to in Atlanta!

My husband who is a Diamond member gifted me a night to myself at this hotel and it was lovely. I had a top floor suite with an amazing view. The suite was spacious and it was very quiet. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was perfect because I was attending an event at the State Farm Arena the next day and could have literally walked there if I chose. I had drink tickets so I checked out the bar which was nice.

Speaking of perfection....the water pressure was AMAZING!!!

Cons:
1. Parking is $45 a night. Yes $45 A NIGHT! Its valet only and according to them owned by another company. There really isn't anywhere else to park either because of where the hotel is located, so make sure you have that in your budget if you are considering staying here.

2.The bartender's attitude when I asked him exactly what my drink ticket covered left a little to be desired.

3. The buffet was great but I had 2 people ask me if I wanted coffee (the greeter at the front and my actual waitress) and neither brought it to me. After a 10 minute wait I got up and asked the waitress who was standing my the coffee machine near the buffet and she happily brought me coffee and continued to check on me. She was really sweet and saved what has turning into a mess over something as small as coffee.

I would definitely stay here again!

We loved the location that was central to all of our activities for the weekend. The less than 10 minute walk to State Farm Arena was great! All hotel staff were friendly and super helpful at all times. We had 2 rooms and we were able to select our rooms so that our balconies faced each other, was super nice. They were able to park our SUV with no problem, we called in advance to ask about our cars and they were nice enough to let us know not to bring our Corvette for parking. We would much rather know that and are so appreciative that they told us!

Where should I begin? I checked on Friday 10/16/20 and I checked out on 10/19/20. I selected this rating because, I was flabbergasted to find that when I walked in my room not only was the toilet seat up, when I placed it down there was Pee on the seat. Not only did I find that to be disgusting, but the room also was not clean at all. You advertise that you're working with Lysol and I find that to be false. How could you be advertising to be so clean and the rooms are so dirty? The next day I found someone's underwear and pants underneath my sink. I took a photo, because I couldn't believe it. A very small woman left her clothes behind, and the staff didn't even clean it. Do you know how disgusting that is especially with Covid going on? I mean UNDERWEAR!? Also, the marijuana smoking throughout the hallways & in the rooms was outrageous. Not everyone likes that smell, and I didn't understand why they let people do whatever they want. The walls are paper-thin, so you can hear everything imaginable throughout your stay. I had children screaming, getting spanked every two seconds, screaming again-it was nuts. I found it to be quite upsetting that I was only able to get half off of one night, seeing as how I had someone's dirty underwear in my room. The toilet water came up twice. The walls on the shower had little hairs on it. The valet service was also horrendous, not because of the men operating it, they did a great job, but because you needed more staff for the demand. Also, because the room is so dirty, I refused to use the little coffee maker in the room, or eat anything out of this hotel, which sucked because then I had to go out every day. If we weren't told to stay here for a corporate event I would have left. I will never stay here again unless it's a life or death situation. I am really surprised that there were no roaches. If you do decide to stay here, just do as I did and make sure to bring Lysol wipes just in case. I also went to the store and bought disinfectant spray, which is not that far away as long as you rent a car. The location of this hotel is great, and the staff is friendly, but it's just not enough to stay here again, if you do have autoimmune diseases, with Covid going on, you should really rethink staying somewhere else that is safer for you.

Between the people milling around outside and in lobby all hours and the literal clouds of marijuana smoke in every hallway this is not somewhere I will bring my family again. Queen suite was a lot of space and decorated nice but it was dirty and the staff said they were out of blankets, pillows, sheets so could not even use sofa sleeper. Breakfast consist of a to go box with eggs potatoes and a biscuit for $12. Skip it and order DoorDash. Location would be great but overall gives a seedy motel vibe versus a $300 a night hotel. Also, valet only prepare to pay a minimum of $45

This hotel was full of trash and dirt in the hallways . I saw the trash bags getting changed but no one was vacuuming. The sheets had blood stains in them. Whom ever cleaned the room put the blood stains towards the bottom of the bed so that they weren’t noticeable. I took all those sheets off the bed and put my own on there as well as my own pillows. Location is great put they need to get new sheets every so often especially when some bleeds on them don’t reuse them get rid of them. It’s a pandemic and that’s just nasty. This hotels want to charge top dollars but aren’t worth the space there renting.

I had a great stay during the apparel market minus the knock at my door by housekeeping. It’s located across from the Westin so I just walk across the street and into the Westin to take their skywalk to market. When checking in I always feel welcomed by the front desk. I’ve stayed here twice now. It’s clean & has comfortable beds. The restaurant is delicious and has a great atmosphere. The cookies at checkin are delicious. I did have one issue this last time. Checkout is at 12pm but by 8:30am the housekeepers we’re knocking on my door. They came back at 9am which made me get out of bed to answer the door they were asking when I’d be checking out. I felt it was very unprofessional. This all should be handled by the front desk and communicated between them two instead of having a knock at my door. Instead I was woken up by a knock and it made me feel rushed to leave my room which I shouldn’t ever be made to feel that way. Just don’t knock on doors asking when your paying guest are leaving.

Hi SarahBK90, Thank you so much for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your recent stay with us. We are thrilled that you've chosen us twice now to take great care of you during the markets! Thank you so much for noting some of the very positive aspects of the American: the prime location, feeling welcomed, great restaurant, THE COOKIE and the cleanliness! Also it's extremely helpful to hear the areas we need to work on; such as our housekeeping team making sure they are following the proper process for our guests checking out. I'm sure it was annoying to be woken up and have to get out of bed when you heard a knock at the door - I'm very sorry that you were inconvenienced this way & we've made this a point of coaching and training internally. We hope to see you again at the next Market!

Overall I liked the hotel. The location was good for a convention at GWCC, and the room was nice. Staff were friendly too. The bar was nice, and the bartenders were helpful.

Things I didn't like: the HVAC in the room was really loud, and the thermostat would make a loud click every time the fan would cycle on an off. Between the click and the cycling it made for a tough sleeping environment. I usually like to set the fan to stay on but this thermostat didn't allow that setting. It was either high or low. Of course if I turned off the HVAC it would get too warm overnight.

Secondly, my room was only made up once during my stay. I realize most hotels are not doing daily room maintenance since the pandemic (I assume due to staffing shortages), but I did receive a text message saying it would happen daily, so I think whatever the reality is should be communicated at check-in.

Lastly, the hotel breakfast was ok, but I don't think it was worth $15 + tax and tip. I had it twice and the first day the hostess was really friendly and helpful. The second day, she wasn't there and the gentleman who was hosting the breakfast didn't bring us coffee or even set up our table with silverware. I'm not sure why I tipped him, but I did give him something. Either way, I've had this same level of breakfast at other hotels where it was included. If you must charge for breakfast, I think it needs to offer more or higher quality options. We decided to go to the Waffle House for the rest of our stay and spend less money while getting a slightly higher quality breakfast.

The room stank. The hotel smelled like marijuana. Don’t pay that kind of money for your lungs to get contaminated by smoke everywhere. The windows didn’t open in our room. They only offer valet parking in the garage. The valet host said it cost $45 a night and the hotel host said $50 a night.

Disappointing hotel. My original king booking (booked way in advance for a conference) was oversold (or sold at a way higher rate for the Taylor Swift concert that happened to be the day of my arrival) and I was “upgraded” to a room with two full size beds. The walls are thin, so you can hear other conversations and your neighbors tv, and you can hear constant water through the pipes. My shower had excellent cold water pressure with hot water sprinkles. The hotel is old, outdated and definitely not four stars.

Good afternoon, I am sorry. I do not know. I believe this is a non-smoking hotel. Best bet is to quit --- but if that is not an option, possibly go out front or walk around - it's busy around there. Take care. I hope you quit someday and keep yourself healthy. Have a good trip
