Situated conveniently near downtown Atlanta and public transit, the Atlanta Marriott Marquis garners appreciation for its location. However, many guests criticize the rooms for being outdated and not well-maintained, diminishing the perceived value considering the high prices charged for services and amenities. Although the common areas receive commendation for their upkeep, travelers' experiences with cleanliness and service are inconsistent, with mentions of slow staff and inadequate housekeeping. The hotel's atmosphere is compromised by the room conditions, yet some amenities like the views and atrium are highlights for visitors.

It is almost 1:00 am and I have once again been woken by the party in the Atrium. This hotel has no soundproofing, and the rooms encircle a large open space. All noise carries, and when there is a noisy gathering, forget sleeping. This is the 2nd night this has occurred. I'm checking out tomorrow.

For a Marriott Marquis, the rooms are over priced as they are shabby. The carpets are worn and torn, the bathrooms are very dated. Make sure to pack whatever you need as there are no amenities. There is temperature control. However, it does nothing other than make a lot of noise. This hotel is cold throughout.

The acoustics in the meeting rooms are poor and wonky. There is no wifi once you leave your room. The inroom wifi is free IF you are a Rewards member. If not, it is pricey.

The staff are friendly and helpful despite being harried.

In April 2023, I went to the Atlanta Marriott Marquis for a Ladies Lectureship for about 2,000 women from churches around the country for a weekend. The hotel seems to be in a very convenient location. Checkin and checkout was easy and carefree. The staff was wonderful. The room was pretty nice except it looks like the carpet has certainly seen better days and needing to be replaced as our room had multiple stains and a couple of other of the ladies rooms also had the same that we visited. Being that the room gets cleaned on a daily basis, we had to change the clock to daylight savings time although that change happened 3/12/23 but I guess the staff didn't notice. It's also scary when the store within the hotel does not have any prices on anything, so I definitely went to CVS down the street for some items/snacks. There was a Starbucks within the hotel. And for such a huge group of ladies, I would expect that if the hotel was providing water (there were about 3 or 4 water machine stations right by 3 or 4 doors where we met for most of the days) that someone would make sure the water was refilled as they quickly ran out and seemed to never really get replaced. A friend had to locate another water station away from the conference rooms we used to replenish our water.

Recently, I stayed at Atlanta Marriott Marquis for 4 nights. Upon entering the hotel, I was very impressed with interior architect and beauty of Atrium lobby. However, once I wanted to go to my room, I learned that only limited number of elevators work causing long wait time in morning and evening to go into room or outside. Interestingly, in their lounge for elite guest, no breakfast is served in the morning. You have to go to SEARs restaurant and wait in the line for between 20-45 minutes for breakfast buffet. Service there is poor and selection is average for the money they charge. Room design is average and amenities in bathroom is bare minimum for the location, name and charges you pay for the room.
When I complained for the above matters, I was told that manager will call you but it has been a week and no follow up call or e mail from management. I also learned that many other guest with Marriott loyalty were disappointed and had similar complaints. I suspect, management/owners are focused on only maximizing their profit not service or Marriott reputation while Covid revenge travel is in full force.
In future, I am not planning to stay there for sure. You have many choices in downtown Atlanta.

We missed our evening Delta flight connection at ATL and closer Marriott properties were booked. When it was clear late in the evening on 2/15/25 that we would be spending the night in ATL, I booked two rooms at the Marquis for my wife and I and my 80-year old mother and father in law.

On arrival for check-in, and despite having a reservation confirmation # in hand, we were told the hotel was sold out (there was a big cheerleading group on site). Undaunted, the front desk agent Lisa, did some investigating and found us two rooms for the evening. As our toiletry items were still in our checked luggage which we did not have, Lisa was also kind enough to give us complimentary bottles of water and toothpaste/brushes. She really deserves a kudos for her efforts.

I was at a conference here for 3 nights in January 2025 and am a Titanium Elite Bonvoy guest so I have spent a fair amount of nights in Marriotts and this one was the worst one I have been in for a long time, perhaps ever. The welcoming desk attendant was friendly, and she let me know they were short staffed due to the snow a few days prior and housekeeping would not be servicing my room, which I find unacceptable. Though she said I could make the request and they would see if they had adequate staff, when I got up to my room I found it to be dark, dingy and absolutely filthy. I found stuck on toothpaste rings on the sink counter from the prior guest as well as other sticky cup rings on the desk and bedside table. There is absolutely no excuse for this.

There was no luggage rack and nowhere to put one piece of luggage. I called for housekeeping to come clean the counters, but they told me they were too busy. Really??

No one came and by the next day, at 5 pm, still no one had cleaned my room. A few doors away, I saw a cleaning cart and asked the person if they could clean my room next. He was very kind and did that, yet he only cleaned the bathroom, I had to ask him to wipe down the counters in the bedroom and he didn't make the bed or anything else. He left the bathroom much cleaner but I had to ask. The next day it did get cleaned but very late in the day.

The hotel is old and needs a complete overhaul and renovation. The staff around the conference seemed friendly enough. The conference catered food was fair, not that great.

This is really one of the worst Marriotts I have ever been at and it really needs an upgrade and/or new management. It is shockingly bad.

We have stayed at Marriott properties all over the world. We were so disappointed. We stayed for five nights for a bridge tournament. We stayed on the 26th floor. When you exited the elevator two out of the four lights above the elevators were in disrepair so it was dimly lit. The ceiling in fro t of the elevator was soiled or had mold. If you were staying on the 41-47th floor that bank of elevators were broken the entire week. The escalator from the atrium lobby to the main lobby in the rear was broken the entire week. The sitting area in front of the Gedex office in the main lobby had crumbs all over the carpet. The casual dining restaurant had only one server for early evening and could not utilize half the restaurant until another server arrived. Waited an hour for food service. The buffet restaurant was adequate but under staffed. The vending machine took my money but did not provide any beverage. Room was ever serviced before 2 pm and they only left one bath towel, one hand towel and one washcloth. We were two people. This happened every day. Our room was not vacuumed once in five days and the glasses in the room were not washed. I asked for two clean glasses. . I either had to go find towels myself or call the front desk and wait on hold for ten minutes before someone answered the phone. The food concession stand had only o e cashier with a daily line of 10-20 people waiting. The property is run down. The vinyl sofa in our room was peeling. The glass of iced tea served in the restaurant was cracked. I could go on but I think you get the picture.

The hotel is a disgrace for a Marriott. The corridor carpets look like they have not been replaced in years. The wall paper around the elevator waiting area has filth and looks worn out in places. The rooms are tolerable but the bathroom fittings including the tiles and bathtub are of the quality one would expect to find in a Motel 6 or Days Inn not a Marriott Marquis.

The lobby and common areas were beautiful and 75% of the employees provided outstanding customer service. The room appeared as pictured; however, it was dirty. High touch surfaces were sticky, dust and crumbs appeared on multiple surfaces, and the carpet was dirty and stained. I requested a thorough cleaning which “occurred” while we explored the city. That said, the carpet was still disgusting. This hotel does not come close to meeting Marriot standards.

I think that this might be my first bad review. I try to be honest and find the good, but I am struggling here. I will start by saying that I am a Marriott member and they have never let me down. I stayed at this hotel due to a conference that I was attending, and have stayed here before, but will most likely never stay here again.

The hotel is located in Downtown Atlanta and if you aren't attending some type of conference, I don't know why you would stay in downtown Atlanta otherwise. There are much better and safer neighborhoods. If you've never been to the ATL, don't let this be your hotel for your first time.

The hotel is dark and dingy. The carpet throughout is a brown stripe with shades of orange. It looks straight out of the 70s. The pictures online are very well done - let's just put it that way.

My TV wasn't working, so I called the front desk and they never answered. I went downstairs to the front desk and reported it. An hour later, no one had come, so I changed rooms. My friend needed coffee replenished in her room and ultimately came and got mine because housekeeping never came.

The hallway outside of my new room had a very distinct smell of pot.

Several people at the conference with me were on their second and third rooms due to lack of housekeeping.

So - if you are traveling to Atlanta, let's keep looking and find a better option.

Dear GoEagles323, First and foremost, thank you for your loyalty to our brand. We appreciate you taking the time to evaluate your return visit while attending your conference. We are an iconic building in Atlanta designed by John Portman and have been placed on the Georgia Register of Historic Places. In addition to this, we are the second largest atrium in the world, and we sincerely regret that we did not meet your expectations regarding our design. Furthermore, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced due to our associates not being responsive to your needs. We have shared your comments with our team so we can take the appropriate action moving forward. Additionally, we also apologize for the inconvenience you encountered in the hallway. With the decriminalization of marijuana in the city of Atlanta, we do know this has recently become more of an issue. We are committed to enhancing every guest's experience; therefore, we thank you for bringing this to our attention. We appreciate your business, and we would be honored to have you revisit you one more time and give us another chance to provide you with a flawless experience. This hotel is desperate for an upgrade and a lick of paint. I am aware that the pandemic has affected staffing etc, but the hotel seems to be doing a roaring trade and booking guests and filling the hotel... yet are not taking any time to properly clean or update rooms at all. I was in town at the start of December for a large conference. Folks in my party were checked into rooms where guests were already staying. My room was "cleaned" but still dirty (bits of trash still in places like the seal on a toothpaste tube - least I hope it was that) and layers of dust on surfaces... and smelled like cigarettes. Mold stains near the tub and scuffs and marks on the walls. The hotel staff are very nice and friendly when dealing with them 1:1 at check-in, in the restaurant, so I don't know where the disconnect is - presumably it's management really just trying to get the biggest bang for their buck. I did order room service one night, and despite it being a busy Saturday night, the food came to my room quickly, much quicker than they quoted and was delicious. The Starbucks in the lobby is a godsend for early starts!

I don't think it is worth the price per night whatsoever, and had it not been there for work, I would have been really cross about the state of the place. But I did end up attending meetings at other hotels in the area, and found that was an issue across the board downtown.

They were very clear up front about what their covid practices were, and that housekeeping was reduced during the stay, unless you stayed I think 4 or more nights. I am happy to have people NOT in my room during a pandemic if I have to travel, but would have appreciated a CLEAN room to start with and additional towels from the get go to counter that, instead of me having to reach out. It was frustrating to return to my room each day to be reminded "oh yeah, it still smells like cigarettes".

The glory days of this hotel have long gone. It's such a cool space, and very obvious why movies like Hunger Games and shows like Loki were filmed in the hotel.

The parking is expensive, but worth it. It's actually valet parking. You can go and return as often as you need too without additional chaege. However, if you have ever drove to downtown Atlanta, parking is horrible! There are parking lots available on several corners and you are charged each time you come back to the lot.
