Detailed Reviews
This was our first post covid trip so we weren't sure what to expect but we were so impressed. Every effort has been made to ensure guests feel safe, whilst still providing a warm welcome and a comfortable stay. Our room had a beautiful sea view and it did not matter at all that decorative soft furnishings and bath robes have been removed, in fact we felt safer this way. Our key was presented in a plastic bag, having been sterilised, and cleaners did not enter the room during the stay unless requested. The car park has been made into a beer garden which works really well and local parking is easy to find. We spent more time here than elsewhere as we found the Red Lion to be more welcoming and it felt safer than other Cromer establishments we tried. Breakfast was amazing - everything you would expect on a buffet but served to your table instead. Dinner was simple pub grub, the fish and chips are highly recommended.
Our only niggle is that the Red Lion did not acknowledge that we were celebrating a birthday during our stay, despite two separate conversations with staff about this on arrival. We were not looking for freebies, just an acknowledgement would have been lovely as it was the reason for our weekend away. However, staff were very busy running a safe environment which was rightly a higher priority.
Overall we had a lovely break and would definitely stay again. We loved this beautiful area.

We booked the RL for our anniversary because we wanted somewhere near the sea with good food and reviews. The RL did not disappoint. Check in was smooth, keys in plastic bags, tea and coffee and soya milk offered on arrival. The room itself was lovely, spotless, quiet, good standard of finish. Not too hot, not too cold. Comfortable bed - and believe me, I am not a good sleeper, so thats a biggy for me. We ate dinner in the restaurant, it was gorgeous (I am a fairly fussy eater), service was fast and the waiting staff polite and helpful. The breakfast was yummy, such good quality food. Ths only teeny negative was the parking because the car park is taken up with a marquee due to c19, but there are plenty of car parks, not too far away. I don't normally write reviews but as someone who usually doesn't like going away (because I don't sleep or find healthy, good quality food) I felt I had to share the great experience!
We will definitely return to the RL and highly recommend it.
Ps, we stayed in room 8.
Pps, the chippy No.1 was not worth the long queue. The fish was v nice but the chips dry and tasteless.

Once again, another great stay at the Red Lion, our second stay in room 6 which is now a firm favourite. Lovely to have the sitting room overlooking the sea - especially with this morning's storm and high tide.
Everything about this place is absolutely spot on, breakfast is amazing, super high quality and far too much food. The room was brilliant, spotless, good wifi, plenty of items on the tea tray with spare milk & water in the fridge.
All the staff are super friendly and helpful, the bar is great and the evening meals are good quality, good value for money and huge! I need to check the website menu to find out what the dressing was on the salad that was served with the fish and chips, it was delicious.
We stay in quite a few (favourite) hotels around the country on a fairly regular basis and the Red Lion in Cromer beats all of them.
The car park is now available again (after being used for an outside bar during the pandemic) which is an added bonus.
Thank you. We'll be back!

Stayed here for a night whilst visiting Cromer.
Beautiful room over looking the sea.
See a seal from our room which was fabulous.
A few things that were not great and unfortunately made my review here just average.
For £160 a night I would expect my own mini fridge in our room supplying milk to be able to make a hot drink... even if it was small cartons not a jug in a fridge in a hallway to help yourself.... bottles of water which again were in funny looking like recycled bottles.
The toilet in the bathroom was very tight with a red hot radiator situated so close..you may wanna look at moving this?!
shower pressure wasn’t great
Internet/WiFi not existent up in our room.
Breakfast was ok.

This place is an enigma, a good pub sadly let down by a poor restaurant. 4/5* for the staff and 4* for the pub with a good real ale selection, but 2* for the quality of the food and only 1* for a poor, outdated menu. It seems to strive to be something which it is not - advertising 'Exceptional Food', I'm sorry but is far from that. There is only 1 veg option for Starters and Mains menu which is very poor given the current trend for healthier options and the rise of veggies and vegans. None of our party were very enamoured with any of our choices - a couple thought it very poor and the rest felt it was pretty average and overpriced. We drink here quite often but sorry we won't be dining here again.

Dear Skyenomore1314, Thank you for your recent review. I feel saddened by your review. We do offer exceptional food, given an amass of positive reviews regarding the food of other guests. We try our best to cater for everybody. Which is why there is a choice for vegans on the menu. Had you spoke to the manager on shift regarding the limited choice of vegan options they would have happily gone and spoke to the chef's and would have come up with alternative dishes for you. We have however, as of Friday changed our menu's so we now offer more options for vegans. I do apologise that you and the rest of your party felt as if your visit to The Red Lion wasn't what you had anticipated. I do hope you try us again in the future especially with our new menu now being available. Hayley

This hotel is lovely. I can’t imagine a nicer one in Cromer. EXCELLENT location, AMAZING rooms, we were just disappointed we didn’t have more time to sit in our unexpected ‘lounge’ to enjoy and appreciate the sea/pier view. (Room 6).
Very clean, sanitiser in communal areas, lovely breakfast and good choice of food.
The towels are so white and fluffy, nice little touches like dressing gowns, fresh milk for tea, and an honesty box including wine and chocolate. We thought the wine was cork and there was no corkscrew so we couldn’t enjoy it, tho we were told on check out they were screw cap (hard to tell under the cover on top).
Staff were lovely, no complaints at all.
We didn’t eat in the restaurant/pub just because friends had booked elsewhere but the food looked good as we walked through.

Had a wonderful three night stay at the Red Lion. The service and friendliness of the staff were top-class, fabulous breakfasts with homemade granola, fruit salad, quality full-cooked and lovely coffee. All produce used is of high quality.
Great location on the sea front, lovely bar area. Unfortunately car parking currently not available as being used for a marquee, so be aware that parking adds another £7 a night in local car parks.

Thanks for leaving us a review. We have tried really hard to improve our Breakfast offering as we couldn't offer our Buffet due to Covid, really pleased you liked it. There are on street parking options in Cromer that are free of charge very close to the Hotel and I'm sorry we didn't communicate that with you. See you next time.

A lovely location overlooking the sea with the lovely sound of the water and view of the pier.Very clean throughout with well thought out decoration. Food in the restaurant is very expensive with little choice and promoted in a way that infers local produce but I do not believe that to be true since Salmon, swordfish and mackerel are not in abundance in this location. The beers in the bar are in abundance but mainly the fruity small brewery variety. The main seller was Trawlerboys, but this is not a favourite of ours.
Breakfast service I found to be very good . A very good selection of dishes and very good basic ingredients but very large portions. All food was served and at no time were we required to get up and help ourselves. Excellent.
Our room was very comfortable and most of the staff were very friendly and sought to help us. Why the terrible rating ? Dogs !
I love dogs and have had a dog for most of my married life but this hotel is dedicated to them. If you have ever watched the programme Dogs Behaving Badly and struggle to watch until the end because of the attitude of the owners then do not visit this hotel since it panders to their whims. We had heavy breathing from a dog with nasal problems because of inbreeding, dogs in the restaurant on extending leads, a dog barking during dinner service frequently. Going to bed at night a dog was barking, getting up in the morning a dog was barking.
We ate our dinner on the first night and were disturbed by the barking dog in the restaurant and left before pudding or coffee because of the constant irritation and hubby said to the people supposedly controlling the dog that our dining experience had been spoilt because of the barking and the woman suggested we leave to enjoy the rest of our evening elsewhere. The manager for the evening Tom then stood in front of us in an imposing manner and told us to leave which we did but had to return later since we were booked in for the night. The staff clearly like dogs since they frequently stroke them during service.one woman was eating and cutting food on her plate and then dropping pieces into a metal dog bowl on the floor with a loud metallic clang to give her pet a goody treat. Not really evening restaurant dining behaviour!
Tom, the evening manager said that the hotel is dog friendly and implied by his body language that the set up in the restaurant is justified but I would say that human customers visiting the hotel for well earned respite should be given respect and allowed to enjoy the facilities without the constant intrusion of dog indulgence. Dogs do not need this style of care . They would prefer to go for a hearty walk and then retire for a long snooze in my experience.

Dear CDIS64, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I'm glad you enjoyed the location of the Hotel and found the Hotel to be very clean. We have 8 ales/bitters on at once all from local breweries, all of different strengths and flavours. That was there is something for everyone. I'm glad you found Breakfast service to be very good - it is lovely to be on holiday and for you to be sit at your table and be served and be relaxed in the mornings. As discussed with you we are an extremely dog friendly Hotel, it being our main selling point of the Hotel and something that most of our customers love. I apologise that it ruined your evening but had you mentioned it to a member of staff we could have happily had a word with the customers, but being that the puppy on it's first outing had only barked 3 times during the whole duration of it's stay, we did not deem this a problem. Tom was correct in his manner that dogs are also so very welcome at the Hotel why can they not be made a fuss of? It makes the owners enjoy their experience at Hotel so much more due to the fact that dogs are welcomed with open arms.

Thank you for a lovely 2 night stay - really nice hotel - great views from Room 16 and lovely to listen to the waves at high tide.
Excellent welcome from the staff, friendly locals, lovely roaring fire and a quite amazing bar. Food was excellent and plentiful too.
Superb base for exploring the Norfolk coast, nice little town, lovely beach and comfortable and welcoming place to return to at the end of the day. Parking could be a bit limited but wasn't a problem for us.
Room was very nice, everything you could want or need, including 2 extra electric heaters, (not that we needed those).
Thank you - look forward to coming back again soon

Family room (no10) perfect for family with a teenager. Two bedrooms (double and a single) and a lounge gave us all space and privacy. The room was beautiful. Immaculately clean. Huge sash windows and high ceilings gave space. Room was perfect. Breakfast was great. Lovely food with a great sea view. Covid measures in place and worked really well with little real inconvenience. Evening bar service and local beer excellent. Evening meal was good. Choice was a bit limited but the chicken curry and the fish and chips were superb with mushy peas that zing with flavour. There was a bit of frustration with confusion over table booking which meant we sat down 45 mins later than booked but had a drink in the conservatory which was OK. Bar service was really good. Parking always an issue but more so as the car park now houses an enormous outside marquee for tables. But no problem - that's part of the Cromer charm. Thoroughly recommend the hotel. Perfect location. Lovely stay.
