Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
We were looking for somewhere in the Cromer area to stay, while our child was at their first residential in Kingswood in West Runton. (Why should they get all the fun! We were up for a Norfolk getaway, too!)
We booked two nights, midweek, for a very competitive price, and soon after, received an email with lots of useful info about CCC and a request to let them know if we had any enquiries or if anything could be done to make our stay even better. Already we were impressed with this first contact. I called the reception to ask about a couple of things and spoke to Sarah, who was so welcoming, professional and polite and answered all my questions. We all know that first impressions count and mine were getting higher by the minute. Could it really be as good as we hoped?
Short answer - yes, Cromer Country Club absolutely excels in everything it offers.
The entrance to CCC sweeps uphill on a road lined with tall pine tree. The building that houses reception, also has a games room for children upstairs (with terrific views out over towards Cromer and the sea), and on the top floor is a room with a pool table. Connected to the reception is the good-sized indoor pool which has a sauna, steam room and spa pool alongside it. It seems the pool area has been renovated in recent years and it was spotlessly clean. The building beside reception is the restaurant and bar.
We had a lovely welcome at reception and given some extra info. They took our mobile number and we were sent a WhatsApp message and told we could use this with any enquiries we may have during our stay. This worked really well and we used it to not only secure a late check out but also to book a table at the restaurant. It was a really nice touch that we had a message on our second day, just checking in to see if we were enjoying our stay. They really do have a superb level of customer care.
The room we were given was number 90. This was a ground floor one bedroom unit. It was warm and clean and welcoming.
The kitchen was really well equipped – it seemed everything had been considered. It was also spotlessly clean. In other places we've stayed, the fridge might need an extra wipe or the oven door might have a spot or two on it, but no, not here. It sparkled. There were two Ecover dishwasher tablets provided and recycled kitchen towels too (they are very hot on their green credentials which is a big thumbs up from us).
The bedroom was cosy and the bed was firm. The living room had corner with a dining table and chairs. The TV unit also had a DVD player. The sofa bed was very hard to sit on (one of our few criticisms!) but the cushions made up for that .
The bathroom was super clean. There's a shower gel/shampoo dispenser on the wall. Also provided is a mini soap and body lotion. The tissues and loo rolls are both made from recycled, unbleached paper to add to the environmentally-friendly ethos of the hotel. The only downside was that the energy saving lightbulb in the bathroom was a bit dingy but really, that was no big deal.
We ate in the restaurant both nights. We had only planned to eat there on our first night but we liked it so much we booked again for the second. Food is good, honest pub grub but done very well. Portions are generous. The staff were really friendly and were thoughtful enough to ask us how our day had been when we returned on the second night. It's these small touches that really makes the place outstanding. There was a good selection of interesting beers and drinks, and the wine list was interesting and also had a charitable contribution when you bought a bottle. We heard that Thursday night was Quiz Night in the bar, so we joined in. The host was fun, courteous and pitched the evening perfectly.
The pool and steam room/sauna/spa pool was quiet when we visited. Normally only one or two others were in the complex at the same time as us, but we visited late afternoon, midweek. I suspect weekends and school holidays would be different. The chap on reception was really friendly too.
The games room has a small soft play area for under 4s, an air hockey table, a Badminton net, and table tennis. We were told they also have children's painting activities in the summer holidays.
You can walk from the Country Club into Cromer along a clifftop path. The entrance to which can be found in the car park near the lighthouse, opposite the 'Lookout'. It's not well marked, but just look for a gap in the fence on the right, towards the end of the car park. The walk into Cromer is quite steep in places and so could be hard going for anyone with fitness or mobility issues.
All in all, we really loved Cromer Country Club. We would love to return. Thanks to all the staff and management who have created such a special place.

We stayed here for 5 nights in a 2 bedroom apartment. I was impressed by how clean the accommodation was. It's my first time here and staying in self-catered accommodation. I usually stay in hotels but because of Covid I thought it would be safer for my family trip with siblings and their kids to stay in self-catered accommodation. We stayed in apartment 71 which was modern, next to a parking space and the lighthouse. Molly at reception is a delight. She is friendly and very helpful. Her customer service skills are exceptional, she provided us with information and went the extra mile to get something I needed to enjoy swimming at Trimmington Leisure centre.
Pros:
Clean and modern
Comfortable beds and nice bedsheets
Towels were sealed in bags
They had all the household essentials such as washing up liquid, sponge, clothes, dishwasher & washing machine tablets, toilet rolls and kitchen towels. This gets topped up mid-way of your stay.
Good location near the town centre
Great restaurant on site – Amber Grill & restaurant
As their pool is still closed, they offered an alternative to go and use Trimmington Leisure Centre for an hour slot which has an adult and children’s pool, sauna and steam room. Towels are provided by Cromer Country Club with a £1.50 per towel deposit and refundable.
Cons:
I had a call several days before check in to go through personal details and any requests for our stay. I requested the sofa bed be made into a bed. Unfortunately, upon arrival this did not happen. I called reception and she said some people like it like this and I had to do it myself. That is the last thing you want to do after a long drive. It was heavy and difficult to do so I called the reception again and they got someone to come and turn the sofa bed into a bed.
Besides this issue overall we had a lovely stay and the kids were happy. I would recommend Cromer Country Club.

Spent 8 days here in a studio apartment on ground floor fairly close to Reception and Ambers restaurant with a nice sitting out area. Cleanliness is superb although they have minimised all the equipment in kitchen to one set of everything per person and all ornaments and brochures have been removed. Not a problem but cupboards looked a bit bare! Such a perfect location just out of Cromer right on the Norfolk coastal path so lovely walks right on the doorstep without having to take the car a big bonus in busy times when parking in town can be difficult. We have an all electric Hyundai and were so pleased to find the onsite charger had been installed since our last visit , apparently just before lock down and not many staff knew it was there! But we made good use of it in the evenings or early mornings. Ambers is operating bookings only at the present time with socially distanced tables . Masks need to worn until food and drink ordered and staff are masked all the time. Takes the ambience out of it but hey ho its best to be safe and food is still as good as ever. Our son and family are going this week so will be interesting to see how they find it as their first time sure they will love it as much as we do.

we last stayed here 6 years ago and are delighted to say that standards have remained excellent and everything possible has been done to make visitors extra safe. Our apartment was equipped with what looked like a brand new kitchen and bathroom and everything was so clean and comfortable. We love the location and the on site restaurant was also very safe and served good value tasty meals. Thank you for another lovely holiday with you

There are many different types of accommodation on site, from club suites, through to 2 bedroomed spacious apartments.
The decor is clean and all knick knacks gave been removed in the current pandemic restrictions. There used to be a regular cleaning service but again, this has been suspended in the current pandemic restrictions. After an accommodation is cleaned after departing guests the accommodation is sealed so that the new guests checking in know that it is Covid safe. All of the spare towels and bed linen are in sealed bags so, again guests know they are Covid clean.
Plenty of home comforts are provided on arrival, tea, coffee, milk, sugar, salt and pepper sachets. Also washing up liquid, dishwasher and laundry tablets are provided free of charge as are spare bin liners and cleaning materials. Each accommodation has an iron and ironing board and most have 2 bathrooms.
We have stayed here a total of 4 times. Whilst this last visit has been different, because of the pandemic, it has been Jo less enjoyable. Its a 15/20 minute walk into Cromer or there are plenty of parking facilities in Cromer itself. The pier is amazing. Norwich is an hour long bus ride away and the timetable is approximately every half hour or so. Lovely place for plenty of R&R.
Whilst we do like visiting new places, we also like places like this, which we know and love and feel a bit like a home from home.

The accommodation is 5star,well laid out ,comfortable, very clean, easy access to most units. On site they have a superb leisure Venter which includes a gym, swimming pool, sauna and solarium. The restaurant serves some delious meals that are reasonably priced. During our stay it was my grandsons birthday and the restaurant staff decorated a table and helped with his cake. My grand-daughter is celiac, the restaurant staff made her special food which is gluten free. The area around the complex has some superb walks which some are easily accessed.
The staff are brill, always cheerful, polite and very helpful. We will be back.

On arrival at 4pm unit was not ready (finally ready 1 hour later) and check-in was slow due to Covid restrictions. Apart from the restaurant no other facilities were available on site. This was disappointing as our local timeshare at Barnsdale had already opened their pool, gym and other sports facilities with good management and willing staff. Cromer seemed to have made no effort to get facilities available for guests. Staff just said that they were still waiting for Diamond Resorts to give them the approval to open. People we met on the site said that their local Diamond resort had opened their leisure facilities and hence they had booked at Cromer only to find none of the same leisure activities available. Dined in the on-site restaurant. Good service and Covid precautions in place. Very good mini Sunday roast enjoyed by my wife. I had superb crispy chips but a disappointing battered cod. Also used the restaurant for a takeaway meal later in week. This was a quick and easy to use service with good crab salad and adequate burger, as the bun was soggy, accompanied with the superb chips again.
Unit was adequate with some items like kitchen units and carpets showing heavy wear and tear. Lack of information on how to use coffee maker and microwave made it difficult to use these efficiently. Good storage available in the furniture and built in cupboards in our 2+2 unit. No privacy on terrace outside unit with a busy footpath to car parks and reception immediately in front. Good base for walks into Cromer and adjacent beach. Also easy to explore rest of Norfolk coast and countryside from here. Site itself needs improving and there was scaffolding and work going on to roof-top terrace above reception/restaurant. This is always disappointing when it is at peak holiday time. Enjoyed our week at the site but it is difficult to recommend to others as we were unable to try most of the site’s facilities on offer.

My husband and I stayed for one evening this weekend. We would have liked to stay longer but we booked last minute and it was fully booked for additional evenings. The booking process was straightforward and staff (Saffron) were very helpful and friendly on the phone. The check in was equally professional.
The accommodation (superior apartment) was excellent value. The rooms were spotlessly clean. There was a living room with kitchen/dining room on the ground floor. The bedroom was spacious with a lovely little balcony and the bed was extremely large and comfortable with plump pillows. There are 2 bathrooms with shower gel supplied. The radiators are super efficient.
If you have mobility problems, you would be advised to ring in advance because the site is very steep and has lots of steps.
We went to the restaurant and had good food and drink. Great choice of wines and home made meals. Richard served us and offered good advice about the menu. Excellent service!
We walked into Cromer quite easily along the coast. It takes about 20 minutes - most of which is overlooking the sea.
All in all, a great place to stay.

We booked a studio apartment for four nights in February, having read the reviews and taking into account the very reasonable prices. We were not disappointed and it was truly superb. The room was a bedsit type setup with a fully equipped kitchen, lounge/dining area and large comfy bed with a separate bathroom. It was really well equipped, very clean and comfy. We especially liked the TV which could be swivelled so that we could either watch form the sitting area or whilst in bed. The staff were all friendly and very accommodating when we requested to extend our stay and asked to remain in the same room. The facilities are great with a large pool and there are planned activities throughout the week, even out of season. A special mention goes to Martin the entertainment manager whose enthusiasm for the job was refreshing and we particularly enjoyed his quizzes in the evenings.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at the Cromer Country Club. We stayed with our two boys, 12 and 9 and our friends and their children of the same age. I understand that the new covid laws are not easy and all hotels/resorts are doing things slightly differently. However, this place takes it to another level. On arrival we were approached out of nowhere by a man zapping our foreheads. Once the Temps were taken and ok, we were told that we all had to wear face masks, even the children, these were to be worn in all areas inside. The staff at reception read out the long list of things we couldn’t do, we were also told on Arrival that the pool was shut for the duration of our stay. It was the least welcoming arrival I can think of. The whole resort is dated, the brick work is bland and feels like a housing estate. The rooms are ok, basic but ok. The bathrooms aren’t great, clingy shower curtains!! We went to the restaurant one evening, was told to all wear our masks until we had ordered our food And had a our temps taken again??? Not sure why we could t remove masks once seated? We obviously didn’t all sit round the table with masks on, waiting to be served then suddenly remove them, as that makes no sense. It’s like opening is an inconvenience and we were made to feel very much like we were in the way. No maid service to the rooms so we had to clean our own. We paid £688 for 3 nights of self catering with anything else used, as a further cost on top. The while experience was poorly put together and not in any way comparable to the 3 days that preceded our stay, we were at Dunston Hall hotel, the staff were very welcoming, rooms cleaned daily, pool was open on a pre booking slot, sun terrace with table service, we had breakfast included,
We had a lovely family room that was £390 for the same duration as Cromer country club. £300 less to stay in a much better, classier hotel with attentive staff. That made our stay relaxing and one we would return to. If you want to Holiday in a glorified dated retirement home, chose Cromer Country Club, however if you want a good upmarket family accommodation then avoid at all costs. Maybe give Dunston Hall a call....
