We’ve eaten here a number of times ( we have yet to stay overnight as we live about 1.25 hours away). Our last stop was for lunch on December 30. Service was efficient and friendly. The food was very good; one had an omelette and the other burger and fries. For the first

Upon arrival our room rate was higher than listed on the website and when we booked. When asked about the hike, we were told that the owner couldn't decide what rate to settle on. Obviously the higher. The exterior deck to the room was covered in worn and pitted plywood. The

Response from Lanes Privateer I, Owner at Lane's Privateer Inn

Good afternoon~ Thank you for staying with us and taking the time to write your review. Sometimes a negative review like this can be helpful as it pointed out a problem in our housekeeping department. We replaced our sheets earlier this year and because of your review, discovered that housekeeping chose not to use them until they felt that the current sheets had worn out, which clearly they had. Crisp, new linens are on the beds and we've had some serious discussion. We investigated your comment about the chairs and honestly couldn't find the short white hairs that you had mentioned. The inn was built in 1798 and it is a very large wooden building on the water that requires constant maintenance. This year we replaced the roof to the tune of $50 000.00. We also replaced the restaurant kitchen, POS, as well as many furnishing and fixtures in guest rooms. The walkways are on the list as our spring project. We are the 3rd generation of the Lane family to operate this inn and I assure you that every penny that we make goes into maintenance and upkeep of this historic building. You comment about the rate and your experience at check in have us puzzled. There are only a few of us who register guests and we don't recall a discrepancy with a rate nor would we speak in that way to a guest. Our winter rates start at $89 for a budget room, $110 for an art gallery queen, king or twin bedroom. The studio suite is $125 and the suite is $155. These rates are posted on the website. If you would please send us an email with your name and the date of your stay, we would gladly refund you the overage in the rate that you paid. All the best~ Susan Lane

Stayed here whilst visiting Nova Scotia - the room was clean and we loved the view of the river - outside was a lovely garden/lawn where you could chill and watch the world go by - eat in the restaurant and it was great. The waitress was very friendly.

Our large room had a queen bed comfortable couch, two chairs and desk. The breakfast was excellent. I recommend the fish cakes...only $12. Recently renovated, walking distance to downtown on nice 5 minute walk across Mersey River bridge. The hotel is on a park like property
