There was a weird smell walking in. Even with wearing a mask. The staff was friendly and helped bring our bags up the stairs which were steep. The room was ok, but old, carpet had stains. The beds were somewhat comfortable but dipped in middle. Could see rust on pipes, and around water sprinkler. The fridge froze our vegetable tray. Microwave was not very powerful. The bathroom was very small, and glass shower doors track was dirty, the water did not get hot unless it ran a long time and had to flush many times... This hotel needs some upgrades. A bit pricy with no complementary breakfast. Then after spending around $500 CA in room and restaurant we were charged for a take out coffee at checkout time...

Response from Lanes Privateer Inn, General Manager at Lane's Privateer Inn
Responded Aug. 21, 2020
Thank you for your review. We greatly appreciate your feedback. We are currently working on renovations of several guest rooms, including the room that we believe you may have stayed in, and we apologize that it was not to your satisfaction at the time of your stay. The issues noted are certainly not acceptable and we will be taking action immediately to rectify them. We wish we could have made your stay more enjoyable, such as moved you to another room you would have been more comfortable in. We understand your frustrations for paying for the takeout coffee. Our guest rooms do have coffee and coffee makers at no extra charge, but it is a different brand than what we serve in the cafe. This is something we should have explained to you at the time and we are sorry we did not. As for the smell at the entrance, we offer hand sanitizer when you first walk in, so if the smell was astringent or alcoholic (some say it smells like tequila?) it may have been that. Alternatively, we redid the carpeting in the downstairs hallway just a few days before your arrival so it may have been new carpet smell. Thank you again for your insightful review. With a circa 1798 building, Lane's Privateer Inn is a constant work in progress, and we are always striving to upgrade and improve.

We decided on a vacation in our own province this year and did not regret staying here. The staff were excellent, the room was very clean and stocked with everything we needed. We enjoyed the view, and drinks and a meal at the restaurant.

We had to cancel our wedding due to COVID, so decided to go away that night instead of sitting home and thinking about our cancelled wedding! We chose to go to Liverpool and Lane's, and it was a great decision. Our room on the 2nd floor was lovely, and we were pleased to get a $25 dining credit in the lovely dining room.........Loved the book store part, and all were very friendly. After dinner, we sat out in the adirondack chairs overlooking the river. We'll be back!

We absolutely loved this place. It is very historic and quirky. There is a cute bookstore, coffee shop and bakery on site as well as a pub/restaurant which had great food and entertainment. The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. What made the stay most enjoyable was the owner’s welcoming spirit and enthusiasm for the inn and the town of Liverpool. It was such a charming location we didn’t want to leave.
