There is a lot to like about this hotel, but it should be better based on the cost of the room and age of the building. It is modern and fairly comfortable, with a great location, especially if you are attending the Celtic College, which is only a 10 minute walk away. It is less than 10 minutes to get to The Square, the main shopping area in town.
All of the staff members I spoke to were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable.
My complaints are more related to maintenance and design of the building itself. The air conditioner was one of the noisiest I have ever heard. It was loud enough to wake us both every time it came on during the night. This might be reasonable in a decades old building, but this one is less than 5 years old, which was unacceptable. Getting another room wasn’t an option as the hotel was sold out. The bathroom door also squeaked very loudly. We asked the front desk if the hinges could be oiled, but there was no improvement.
The bathroom was terribly designed. It was supposedly wheelchair accessible, which meant an extra wide door and lots of space to manoeuvre, plus grab bars by the toilet and in the tub. But how many wheelchair users can get into a bathtub? A roll-in shower might have been more practical. Also, the light switch was on the hinged side of the door, making it hard to reach until you are inside the dark room. There were no towel racks, even though there was lots of wall space to put one, just hooks on the door, which was 2 meters away from the sink. There were also no shelves to put towels or toiletries, and no fan to air out the bathroom after a shower.
We stayed in the room one evening due to a bad rain storm and for hours we heard the loud sound of water flowing down a pipe in the wall near the bed. I assume this was water draining off the roof. Luckily the rain stopped before bed time. The pipe should have been either sound-proofed or placed away from the guest rooms. Comfort Inn is a large chain and should know how to build a better hotel.
Two last minor complaints:
The free breakfast was adequate, but the waffle iron was “out of order” for the entire week of our stay.
The evening we stayed in, we tried to watch tv, but the channel selection was terrible and the hotel guide book didn’t have a correct list of the channels available, nor was there any kind of program listing. And there was no option of “on-demand” films.

Booked through Choice Hotels. Confirmation said check in was at 3. Got there early hoping for a room to be ready. Was told by desk clerk that check in was at 4. Clerk was frustrated at this point from people asking to check in early.
I would recommend better communication between the corporate booking website and the actual hotel. 4pm check in and 10 am check out does not leave much time to enjoy the $300+ room.
The room itself was big, clean and quiet. The hotel room air was very dry in the night.

Hello, we are sorry for the misunderstanding. Check-in time is 4:00pm, however check-out is 11:00am - not 10:00am. Our corporate booking site does include this same info. We hope you enjoyed your stay and hope you choose Choice again!

This hotel is new, and very centrally located. However, it has not been maintained and there are issues- such as a major lack of hot water and items not repaired in rooms (broken toilet seats, broken arms on desk chairs, black mold in bathrooms). The high nightly rate at this hotel (off season) is a bit discouraging. The breakfast was adequate (waffles, egg, hot meat, bagels, yogurt, muffins...), but the breakfast employee without a mask standing right behind you, coughing as you tried to make your meal was a turn-off.

This is a great hotel. From the check in to the check out this was a great experience. Staff were pleasant, hotel was clean, beds were comfortable, breakfast was good. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone in the area.

We were happy that the building was newer, clean and the bed/pillows were comfortable. However, When we arrived, we were informed the elevator was broken. We had to carry a sleeping kid and suitcases up four floors only to find that the key cards we were given to our room did not work. I had to walk down four more stories, get new ones and then walk up four stories to just get into our room. Also, on both mornings the breakfast was not being replenished on a frequent basis. Scrambled eggs were not available both mornings and no muffins were present on the second morning (with an hour to go in the breakfast serving time). Based on the price we paid, the value we received was sub par.

Nice, clean rooms. The bed was very comfortable and we appreciated the complimentary hot breakfast to start our morning before leaving. The pool looked inviting, but having had a late night, we didn't have a chance to take advantage of it. Graham at the front counter was an absolute delight, and was very helpful assisting me with an error I made when booking my room online. I would definitely recommend this establishment for anyone staying the night in beautiful Goderich.

When we arrived we were given the card for our room and when we opened the door to our room it wasn't made up from the previous people.
The next day in the afternoon two ladies opened our door to our room with a card and shut the door when they found out we were there. I went out in the hall to see who they were and they just said you aren't the mother of the bride? how can this happen? people are allowed to walk into your room without knocking.
Overall the hotel is very clean and the beds were comfortable.

Beware that they rent out upper floor rooms to people who are staying here for work and are up getting ready at 4am with zero consideration of rooms below them. My entire family was woken and kept awake for more than an hour between 4 and 6 am with incessant stopping and slamming above us. After calling the front desk for the second night in a row, we were told that “there is no one out and about in that area” so nothing they can do about the noise. We were reminded aggressively during our stay about the quiet hours of the hotel and were respectful of the 10pm start of such. Apparently these rules only apply to families staying here and only matter at the 10pm curfew. Avoid if getting any sleep is your intention in renting a room here.

I had a wonderful stay at the Comfort Inn in a picturesque Ontario town near the shores of Lake Huron. The hotel was spotless, and the breakfast was delicious with plenty of options to choose from. The desk staff, particularly the woman who checked me in, was incredibly friendly and professional, making me feel right at home. While I didn’t have the chance to try the pool, it looked inviting, and the fitness centre, open 24 hours, appeared well-equipped. There was plenty of parking available, and the staff was just as friendly and efficient during checkout. A great place to stay in a beautiful location!

We arrived late on Friday, August 21st-Sunday 23, 2020. We checked in late after 8pm on the Friday. Next morning we went diwn to 1st floor for breakfast. There was very minimal food choices. No regular coffee just decafe. No orange juice out of 2 other choices. No muffins. There was a syrup container but it was out. There was also a waffle machine but not waffles!! We were very disappointed. We went up to front desk and explained the situation. They also ran out of bagels by 8:45 but they restocked within minutes. They almost ran out of milk but miraculously found some near by. Because this is a weekend and the hotel was full to capacity we were disappointed that the hotel did not look after the breakfast as items were being emptied. This was very disorganized and could be better executed. If the hotel is going to provide breakfast in the morning to help keep it stoked from 7-10am liked the information on the website states!!! Our room was not cleaned the very next day. We had no fresh towels for 2 days. We weren't impressed with that... at least provide your guests with towels. On the last day the hotel provided the guests with a mini bag at breakfast with a bagel, 2 butters, 1 fruit cup, spoon/knife. That's because people complained that the bagels were all out!! The hotel seemed clean overal!!
