Nestled in a prime location, the Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort, garners praise for its beach proximity and the beauty of its grounds, though construction noise has marred the tranquility for some guests. While the pools and renovated rooms are highlights, many visitors find the resort's high prices don't always match the value received, citing costly cabanas and mixed service experiences. Despite complaints about dated rooms with various issues, the overall cleanliness of the resort receives commendations.

First the positives, the beach and pools are 2nd to none and an amazing joy for kids. This being the 2nd time here I am somewhat surprised how nonchalant some parents are to let their really young kids who are clearly weak swimmers navigate the pools alone. If they are not strong swimmers or tall enough, parents should stay with their kids. The rooms are nice and roomy and clean enough, but even after updates nothing screams luxury. As much as the resort grounds enthrall you along with the pools, the pricing for food and drinks goes beyond excessive. I understand an upcharge, but what goes on here makes me really second guess ever coming back. I’m sorry but relaxation and luxury to me is not $29 for a makers mark watered down old fashion. If talking kids $16 for French fries. Then the restaurants. Nothing say kid menu like a $46 steak or $26 4oz grilled chicken. Just for perspective a dinner for 2 adults and 2 kids with 1 appetizer and only 1 drink 4 entrees (2from kid menu) and 1 side will run you $300. In addition, while most of the staff are wonderful (shout out Tim in Grotto) one particular waiter in Humuhumu was awful and really set a bad mood (he was not even our waiter). For starters when checking in speaking to the friendly hostess he stormed up and rudely interrupted and verbally accosted the hostess talking to us to demand answers about the size of the group being placed at his tables. They didn’t even understand his juvenile issues as he stormed off. The later while the staff was trying to deliver the “big ticket” items from the seafood towers to the table the waiter had navigated the group to move off his big table and to a lesser table in the back. I did not know the waiter who was bald with glasses, but really lost desire to ever come back to the restaurant. Not sure I’m seeing the excitement of the new menu. The swordfish was a mistake to order, king salmon was ok. The flavorless kids red snapper was probably best entree only after my 11 yr old requested some desperately needed acidity in way of a lemon. The only + item was the oysters, really should have just made a meal of them. As a repeat customer I really wanted to fall in love all over again, but have a hard time coming back to the thought of agreeing to just pay crazy prices for non luxury items served in a nice resort.

Responded yesterday
Aloha Jason, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your recent visit to Grand Wailea. We are pleased to hear that you chose to return to our island oasis, and that you enjoyed the beach, and took full advantage of the resort's amenities. However, it is unfortunate that you had a less than optimal experience in our Humuhumunukunukuapua'a restaurant. We strive to provide superior service, and in this situation, it appears we fell short. We have shared your experience with our food and beverage management team to ensure this behavior is addressed as part of our ongoing customer service training. Mahalo, Wendle Lesher, General Manager

Hotel's Favourite
Where to begin. This is an over the top exceptional resort. They have more than 5 pools -I lost count. There’s an adult pool, a lazy river, a 2 story slide, a Tarzan rope swing, and more. There’s a wing dedicated to beautiful shops on the resort grounds. The Shops at Wailea are across the street. There’s many choices for food, snacks, drinks, ice cream etc. The team working the valet hustles. I have not waited more than 5 min for my car yet and the hotel is currently at capacity. The hotel has fireworks at 9pm that are amazing on certain evenings. Definitely check this place out and check out the deals they offer.

Was a little concerned after reading the latest reviews before our trip. We had a great time. Received a small room upgrade and had an amazing view of the resort and ocean. The hotel is perfect for families with kids old and young. The pools are second to none, and the hotel is located on a nice strip of beach where you often see sea turtles in the water. For those wanting a more quiet luxury high-end feel, this might not be the hotel for you.

From the moment I arrived at this amazing hotel I was greeted and treated like Hawaiian royalty. Each and every person with whom I interacted was extremely professional, courteous, and most importantly helpful. The view from my ocean front room on the Ninth floor was beyond exceptional. Watching the sunsets from the private lanai was breathtaking. Dinner at the Humahuma.... was absolutely delicious and the service was perfect. The Botero bar in the grand lobby area is relaxing, the staff exceptional and fun. I highly recommend the Grand Wailea, which is centrally located in Wailea, whether you are traveling with as a family, couple or sole (as I was). Can't wait to return. Mahalo!

Would recommend this property without reservation! Will admit that when I splurge on a high-end resort, I want to make sure level of service meets my expectations, and I can be bit of demanding guest as result. Grand Wailea went above and beyond! Front office manager Beau patiently fielded all my pre-arrival questions and, as Diamond member, we were upgraded to an amazing room. Pool and beach were amazing! Some stress over spring break about finding pool chairs, but we never had an issue. Food options a little limited for such a huge resort, but we had great meals at both Olivine and Humu Humu, plus good meals nearby at Monkeypod. Biggest concern was my daughter’s food allergies, particularly her ability to eat sit-down breakfast (her favorite meal) safely, despite only option being expensive buffet. Staff at ‘Ikena buffet blew us away! Manager (Crystal) set us up so allergies would be flagged on arrival, and our servers (Deborah and, I think, Steve) made us feel so taken care of. It is so rare for my tree nut-allergic daughter to feel catered to at restaurants, and the ‘Ikena crew made her feel like a VIP. The buffet itself was already clearly labeled for allergies, but they made all of the food she wanted in back of house, even changing fryer oil to avoid cross-contamination!!!

What a wonderfully relaxing 7 days. A great place for families or couples, all seemed to have a great time during our stay. You can stay onsite, or take advantage of the many attractions with help from the concierge staff or what you find on Trip Advisor. Truly a resort experience.

Our family enjoyed every aspect of our stay. We arrived on an early flight and hoped to enjoy the pools before our room was ready, but Daisy at the front desk went above and beyond and got us in an ocean view room right away. Our 11 yo loved the activity pools, while the 13 yo preferred the beach. We had no issues finding chairs in either location. I got to enjoy a 1/2 day at the newly renovated spa and had a wonderful massage as well as facial. Our dinners on property were all very good, and it was an easy walk to other properties for dinner a couple other nights, as well as The Shops at Wailea. My only complaint is that our room did not have a full scale mirror outside of the bathroom, which made it a bit difficult for our family of 4 to get ready. But we made it work.

It is truly a lovely property. There was minimal maintenance at this time. This is an optimal place for a family. The property is amazing. Really should spend an hour or 2 walking the grounds daily. The lazy river and pools connected by small slides are amazing. It’s great for young kids. There are 2 slides meant for older kids. There are multiple hot tubs. The resort is right across from a very nice beach. It is certainly pricey. If you are planning to do multiple day excursions, and not take advantage of the property, this facility is not meant for you. If you are planning to stay mainly at a resort and need a pool, water slides, rope swing for your kids, this is a great place. If you are a couple, there is an adult pool although I never got to try it with 2 young kids. The grand wailea shops are a 5-10 minute walk away.

We just returned home from a 3 night stay at the Grand Wailea with our five children. I don’t normally write reviews but I thoroughly enjoyed our experience here and was left confused by all the negative reviews that I had read before arrival. We spent the first half of our trip at another property in Kihea, and arrived to the hotel hours before checkin time. Everyone we interacted with from the valet to the pool attendants were extremely friendly the whole time. As Diamond members we were upgraded to oceanview connecting rooms and both rooms were ready several hours before 4pm checkin. The newly renovated rooms were comfortable and a great size. The property itself is gorgeous and well maintained. The lobby and grounds were just gorgeous. My kids loved the pool area and we had no problem getting chairs even arriving in the late morning/early afternoon. Yes the slides do close at 5pm but at that point a team of staff members start preparing the pool area for the next day. Food was expensive but so is everywhere else on the island. We had no issue leaving for breakfast and dinner and ate lunch by the pool. We will absolutely be back in the future. Michelle at the front desk was especially friendly and helpful both during checkin and at checkout, facilitating a late checkout since we had a late flight home.

Amazing... I don't understand how anyone could give this place a bad review. This place is very high end but caters to families. The grounds were gorgeous and meticulously well kept. The pools were my kids' favorite part of the stay. I really enjoy my few hours at the new spa - it was really enjoyable with breathtaking views. Restaurants, bars, staff, lifeguards, housekeeping, valet.... all top notch customer service with friendly aloha attitudes. Staying here was a special treat for my family and we are grateful for the hotel & staff that went above and beyond to ensure that our family had a good trip.
