It is really worthwhile buying your DOC passes in advance. You get basic toilet facilities and great views and setting. You can pay at the site or to the ranger. We parked our motorhome and used our own toilet facilities and woke up to a great view in the morning. Can get busy during the height of the season.

The DOC camping area is a short walk from Rarawa Beach with beautiful white sands. It has good facilities, including two flush toilets and cold showers. It could be busy in summer - we stayed in April and there was plenty of room for our van plus two others.

DOC Rawara Beach Campsite is a normal campground with cold showers and long drop toilets. The surrounding nature around makes it an unbelievable magical place. Rawara Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches I have seen all my life. If you enjoy to be in the nature and you do not mind to be on your own, this is... More

The camping area itself is incredibly pleasant, with an expansive, flat, grassy area to pitch a tent or park a camper. The huge area has some trees and flax bushes that make it possible to position yourself and get some privacy if you wish. The facilities are basic, but clean and well-maintained enough. It is only a short walk from... More

Just 10 min drive north of Pukenui, Far North, long white wide beach, gravel road to it is a bit rough - just take it slow, another Northland gem, along with Henderson Bay a bit further south, good for getting away from it all.

Typical DOC camp and that's the key. It is meant to be ( and IS ) a basic place to camp for a few nights close to a lovely beach. 15 minute drive to the closest shops. Long drop and flush toilets. Outdoor cold showers to use too. A nice place to camp between the beach ( short walk )... More

We stayed at this campsite for 3 nights while in the Far North and found it to be a great base for exploring everything the area has to offer. It is a little bit out of the way with a 4km unsealed road linking it to the main road but this is also a reason why it is so great.... More
