The other reviewers have captured the beauty of this place, and the hospitality of the owners who were very professional and hospitable hosts. The 1 bedroom cottage is awesome, with lots of space and interesting architectural features. Stunning views and total privacy. The sound of birdsong is the only thing that breaks silence, together with the gentle rustling of the... More

Sandspit Retreat is tucked away at the end of the estuary overlooking calm water. We were lucky to have a clear sky with full moon the night we stayed. We had a great time playing pool & table tennis after dark in the games room, before having a spa outside our house. The three bedroom house would be perfect for taking... More

My partner and I needed to get away and I randomly chose a place on the map, came onto trip advisor and found this beautiful property, what a find!! We stayed for 3 nights and had an amazing, relaxing time in the 1 bedroom cottage. We hardly went anywhere, and pretty much hung out at the cottage, become scrabble experts... More

A friend and I recently spent a weekend at the Sandspit Lodge and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a chalet and the peace and quiet was remarkable. The only sounds were the native birds in the marshes. The accommodation was clean and spacious the food (both breakfast and dinner) superb and mine hosts were... More

But where do you stay to feel you have gotten "away from it all" without being too far removed from the centre of the area? We found the answer... Sandspit Retreat! This property provides everything you need (and more) for... More

Over the last four years I have stayed repeatedly at Sandspit Retreat. Although I gave always stayed in their guest cottage Sandspit Retreat also offers a near new three bedroom home on a separate section. In a word, the guest house is magnificent. It is a fully self contained one bedroom cottage overlooking Sandspit and the Metakana estuary. The cottage... More

We stayed here for 2 nights, but could have easily stayed longer. The great views of the Sandspit, warm cosy fire, spa pool and excellent facilities made Sandspit Retreat one of the best places we’ve stayed in. The place was spacious, comfortable and spotless. The games room was a great bonus having table tennis, pool table, x-box and even a... More
