We had a room in the heritage wing. When we arrived and during the evening, there were trolleys of towels.sheets for housekeeping in the corridor, that had to be negotiated, not really what you expect of a hotel of this quality. Very unsightly welcome. The staff were average - a bit standoffish. The main restaurant evening meal was very good....

Such a beautiful hotel in every way. ... the decor, the service, the food and the scenery is to die for. We had a room overlooking Mt Tongrioiro & the unveiling through the cloud in the morning was exquisite.

We had a couple of nights here and liked it. Thanks to TA reviews I emailed ahead to request a room in the new wing which was lovely, beautifully furnished with a comfy and huge modern bathroom. Our view was of the car park - plus rabbits playing on the lawn, but had we been given a mountain view wouldn't...

A very pleasant stay over the weekend. Although the hotel is a little tired and old world, it is a great step back in time. Was very impressed with the service from reception on arrival, to drinks and restaurant. A motivated team which is nice to see. We stayed in the motel section at back of hotel as this was...

We had booked our room through Walking Legend included in a hiking package and added two nights. As we double checked our booking two days in advance there was some confusion about our booking regarding the two extra nights and at first there was no room but it was sorted out as the hotel had a phone contact with the...

Having taken one of the less expensive rooms it appeared to make us second class customers. The room had a certain faded elegance but the ensuite was very dated. There was only one lift to serve all the rooms and this is a long way from most of the rooms. The signs within the hotel are quite confusing and it...

What a great place. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was neat and tidying. They even had a birthday card and a bottle of champagne waiting for us. Would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to be a bit spolit in a great location.

We chose the hotel because of its proximity to the Tongariro crossing. On entering it is like stepping back in time. The surroundings are very grand if a little tired in places. I'd describe it as shabby chic. The staff are friendly and our room was quiet and comfortable. Our son & family stayed in a lodge close by which...

Arrived at about 1530hrs checked in to be told one lift was not working. Got to our room to find it unmade. The manager came to the room and said he would sort it and we were taken to the lounge for a drink, and told they would let us know when the room was ready. 1700hrs still waiting, and...

As you drive in the the car parks there is a bowling green, in need of love and attention. Unfortunately the hotel is like this in parts as well. The main area is a large room, and you can imagine in it in a 1930's film. It could do with a bit of renovation, nothing major just a link of...
