We booked in for 2 nights and throughout our stay found all the staff to be very friendly, very helpful and a joy to be with. The motel itself is now somewhat dated although kept very clean. It is the style of construction popular in the 80's but the problem is that the walls crack and bang during the night...

We purchased the Tongariro Crossing Grabone package and I couldn't fault a thing! We had the superior room at Skotel which looked straight out onto Tongariro and Ngauruhoe mountains - just spectacular waking up to that each morning! The staff at Skotel were extremely welcoming, helpful and friendly. The food at Skotel was amazing, we had full breakfasts included each...

Me and my mum decided to go for breakfast this morning. It was 8:50am and we were told by the (lovely) girl serving us that breakfast ends at 9am. After a quick word with the chef she came back to us and said it was fine to order. After placing our order with her we could hear loud complaints from...

Skotel is located in Whakapapa village very close to some great walks and just down the road from the Whakapapa ski fields. The staff are awesome and the service great. We had good food and has a nice ambiance. The rooms are well-equipped and comfortable although a little tired in places. The rooms have everything you need, kettle, fridge, hairdryer...

WOW!!!! We were not expecting the excellent service and welcoming environment! The staff at Skotel made us feel welcome and valued. The room had the most amazing view and while the decor was outdated it did not detract from the views which was why we came in the first place. This is not a luxury hotel but is aimed at...

Skotel is a superb hotel with heaps of great facilities: Laundry, kitchen, spa,... Plus the food at the restaurant is delicious. The staff is incredibly helpful in organizing your stay and activities and we loved our stay there to explore the whole area.

My husband and I went to Skotel in April 2017 and it was a good experience. The hotel is huge even though the environment is welcoming and warm. The hotel is located in Whakapapa village, right at the beginning of a three hours trekking to the Tongariro crossing and six kilometers away from a ski station. The hotel has so...

We were staying at the Skotel after hiking the Tongariro Crossing. We were in the hostel area with shared bathrooms. The room was musty and the bedding smelled stale. It was very unpleasant. Even after informing staff there were issues in the bathroom, the empty toilet paper rolls and plugged toilets were still there the next day. Had dinner at...

We were very disappointed with what we got for the price. It was a very small dated room. Only half an hour of wifi was provided for our overnight stay. The staff were lovely and the food was excellent. It is very remote with nothing much to do except go on walks. Wont be rushing back here.

The location is great while exploring the Tongariro National Park and has awesome views of Ngauruhoe,Tongariro etc from the decks. We spent one night in Cabin 4 while doing some walking in the area, the Tama Lakes walk starts practically on your door step. Although the Cabin is quite dated, it has a nice feel to it and is clean....

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Skotel was established in the early 60s by a group of keen skiers who wanted the convenience of accommodation close to the ski-fields but more comfort than the ski lodges of that time. In 1986 it underwent a major expansion with the addition of restaurant, bar and other facilities. The old part of the building became the backpacker’s wing. Skotel has maintained its friendly informal atmosphere but now provides Qualmark three star accommodation and the exciting cuisine experiences of our new dinner menu. ... more   less
