Great place and good atmosphere.
It’s well kitted out with all you need, we stayed in the Gecko village section in a single room chalet which had everything we needed including Car parking, free WiFi, fridge and access to a hot tub which we used after an extreme Heli Hike on Fox

Beautiful rooms, excellent service. Oscar, the manager was very helpful and courteous. Very nice place to relax and rejuvenate. Refrigerator was stocked, all included in the room price. The complementary bottles of wine, red and white were a nice treat

We loved this place. We traveled in a large campervan and the powered sites here are large and private. Each site is surrounded by tropical gardens so you don’t feel like the people in another van are right next to you. The facilities are clean. Hair dryer & straightener in the b

Great and friendly staff here. The retreat has a large restaurant and a great location. However, the dorm beds are metal and squeaky, and the walls are paper thin. We were woken up several times every time anyone above us walked around.

We have stayed in some great lodges all over New Zealand but sadly this wasn’t one of them. The ‘tree hut’ is certainly a hut (with poor design and cheap fittings) but a veranda five feet above ground located in the car park of a motel and backpackers hostel doesn’t put in a tree

Hi 911pw i appreciate that we cant please everyone but please save the 1 star reviews for places / issues that warrant them. We only have two "tree huts" out of our 100 rooms, and they have always proved very popular. Not sure how a stand alone genuine log cabin surrounded by native rainforest you have decided is of poor design but you are entitled to your opinion. Maybe had you chosen one of our new deluxe tree huts they would have fitted your expectations better. Had you mentioned when here your feelings we would have done all we could to offer a solution. Glad you found our staff friendly. Regards Oscar

How far is this location to the intercity bus stop coming from Greymouth? And about how far walking to the downtown?
The bus stop is downtown and both are 150 meters away from the rainforest retreat (Franz Joseph is quite small actually)

Hey, i'm looking to stay here for 2 nights in September for my partners 30th birthday. Cant quite decide what looks nicer between the tree hut and the cabin in the gecko village. As its her 30th want it to be a treat, quiet. what would you recommend having been there? Thank you!! Laura
Hi, We stayed in the tree house and it is very private and secluded. No walking traffic or motor vehicles go past it. So if you are after that I would highly recommend it. I can't really comment on the cabins as we didn't stay in them but if they are the ones I am thinking of they seemed quite good as well just in the main complex area. Hope this helps. Andrew
