What a super motel to stay in, the owners were so friendly and helpful and worked so hard to make our stay comfortable and very pleasant! Even lugging our far too heavy suitcases up the stairs to our room! It was great value to stay here as well. Thank you!

Visited with The Wife, taking an ensuite couple's room. The room was clean and simple, the WC and hot shower was excellent (but then, we'd just come in from the rain :/) While the room was spacious enough for us, more counter-top space would have been perfect. Common kitchen and dining area was excellent. We stayed in that area a...

We slept 2 nights in Montrose. It was the cheapest place we slept in New Zealand. It is a hostal that consists of 2 buildings, one for the backpackers, and one with double rooms with private bathroom for couples. The room was very clean and has the basic things you need, as fridge, waterboiler, tea, coffee...But the room was very...

When you first arrive at the Franz Josef Montrose, it doesn't look very attractive. But appearance can deceive, and we were pleasantly surprised. There are two sections to the building - one for double rooms that seem to cater for couples, and the other with dorms that seems to cater for singles and families. We took a double room and...

Prime location. The owner devided the building wisely to 2 sections: one to bagpackers and the second to mid-age couples, each one with it's own kitchen. A very smart thing to do, the first and only architecture we have seen un New Zealand. The room was very well equiped. We even were suprised and pleased to receive in the evening...

The staff are really accommodating. They bent over backwards for me when I asked to change rooms due to location near the front door. Rooms are really clean and the location is pretty good too (although you can't go wrong with Franz being so small). Very quiet too- probably not the one to come to if you want to party!

The room was bigger than many hostel-type of accommodations, very clean and the rest of the facilities (kitchen, bathrooms etc.) are very clean and comfortable. Erica was great and super helpful to me with booking the glacier walk and getting transportation. And the soup is delicious! Great and easy location.

This hostel is basic but good for a couple of nights. The staff even showed us around when we checked in! We stayed in a double room with shared bathroom. Clean room, bathrooms and shared facilities. Great freebies too - free breakfast, soup and apparently films/popcorn. Wifi is free and not bad speed. Would recommend and stay here again.

The carpet was dirty and I couldn’t connect to the wifi. The staff was quick to book me too the glaciers and the showers were really nice. The location is very good, but all hostels are in the area in Franz Josef, it's a small town

Around the corner from all of Franz Josef's amenities and only 10 minute drive to Franz Josef. Staff were friendly and helpful. It wasn't the cleanest hostel I have been to (bits of scum around the toilet hinges and little issues like that). The doors were quite noisy if you needed to go to the toilet in the night (we...
