The Red Lion Hotel Port Angeles Harbor boasts a prime position that guests often laud for its closeness to local dining and attractions like Olympic National Park. While some travelers commend the comfortable, spacious rooms with fluffy pillows, reviews are mixed regarding service quality and room maintenance. The hotel's value is questioned by many, who feel it's overpriced considering extra charges and the cost of water view rooms.
Cleanliness is generally appreciated, yet some guests have encountered minor issues. Despite this, the hotel's amenities and location continue to draw visitors.

Detailed Reviews
Our check in day was very good. The receptionist was very friendly and always had a smile in her face (she had black hair I believe, and colorful nails). She offered us an upgrade (which we took) and gave us our room cards. The room was clean (except for a dusty sofa, which we didn't use because of it's condition). The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom clean. We did noticed some spots on the curtains but we think it might be some residue that stuck after being washed. On the second day, I called the front desk at around 5pm to ask about how often the rooms are cleaned, the receptionist told me they clean it after we leave. I then asked if I could get another set of the shampoo and stuff, she said I could go to the lobby to get them. So I walked to the lobby and told her I called earlier and she turned around while I was talking. She handed me the shampoo and stuff and then went back to doing whatever she was doing before I came in. On the 3rd day, we checked out and the lady who helped us out was very friendly and helpful.
I really wished the lady from the 2nd day would have been more friendly since that was my birthday and that was the only thing that didn't go as expected.

The hotel is located in the heart of Port Angeles on the waterfront. Our room had a nice few of the bay and we enjoyed having easy access to the Discovery Trail. The exterior of the hotel is dated, but our room was clean and comfortable. Covid-19 restrictions limited maid service, closed the pool, and didn't allow for the bike rentals. Not allowing the bike rentals seemed a bit too conservative.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
The staff were responsive and helpful in getting us checked in and setup with a room quickly as we had been camping and we're exhausted, needing an early check-in. We got a basic room with queen that was dog-friendly on the ground level with a view of the parking lot and stayed two nights. We observed some noise from the stairs out front or from people walking by talking loudly early in the morning but it wasn't terrible. The water pressure was awesome, the TV setup was huge, and the bed was super comfortable. Our room 118 looked like it could have used a recliner or small sofa but perhaps was setup to accommodate a rollaway bed or baby playpen. Overall it was a good deal and we'll be happy to stay there again when we do over Port Angeles since the smoke was so bad from fires. Also, the hotel restaurant was really good (we ate good meals there twice) and the restaurants within walking distance are plentiful and quality.

Hotel's Favourite
We stayed at this hotel for three nights on a trip out to the west coast. The hotel is in a great location, within walking distance to shops and restaurants.
I would have given a 4 1/2 stars due to the rooms are kind of expensive, with no free breakfast and the outdoor pool was closed.
The room was very comfortable and relaxing, but there were no chairs on the balcony and no screen for the doorwall (seems like most hotels in the west don't have screens), as it would have been nice to keep the doorwall open at night even though it was cool.
I would definitely recommend this hotel if staying in the Port Angeles area.

We spent one night at the Red Lion in Port Angeles the beginning of September. It was a great location for exploring Lake Crescent, Marmere Falls, and Hurricane Ridge. It is well worth the extra money to have a water view room as the view of Ediz Hook and the Strait of Juan de Fuca were fabulous. We had brought our kayaks and we were able to launch them from the beach right in front of the hotel. In the morning the water was like glass and as we paddled east at low tide we could see lots of crabs and some sea stars just beneath the surface of the water. The beds were very comfortable, the room was spacious, the deck was large, and we made good use of the microwave and mini fridge. They were just getting ready to put in new carpet, so that will be a worthwhile upgrade.

We stayed in a king room with a view of the strait. The rooms have their own air conditioning/heating unit and it appears the only connected air system is the fan in the bathroom which I assume only takes air out. I was told they can't stay afloat while having rooms occupied only part-time so they just deep-clean each room, bleaching all surfaces in between guests. We didn't use the air conditioner, just opened the sliding glass door so I'm not sure how safe I would feel in the winter. Personally, the amount of bleach/chemicals on the washcloth made my face burn so that was a bummer. The room could have been more thoroughly cleaned as we found a few gross things but overall it was decent for the value. We also had our two dogs there and it worked out really well being well-situated near many amenities.

Convenient location, within walking distance to shops and restaurants. Michael at front desk was helpful and accommodating. Check-in was quick and easy.
Our experience was good until we opened the door to our room, which was filled with a musty cigarette smell. Front desk refused our request to move to another room, they only offered to send in housekeeping to spray the room, which would add even more chemicals there. We declined and had to sleep with our face masks on.
We paid extra for a premium room with a balcony and water views. Our room was on the first floor, ground level, with a balcony facing a walking/biking path 20 feet away. As we sat there, people had full view of us. It could get awkward at times. We ended up not using the balcony at all, so the extra we paid was a total waste.

I have stayed at the Port Angeles Red Lion many times the past 20 years both on business and pleasure trips. I have always enjoyed it there. this time was enough to make me decide I will never stay there again. I always call them direct rather than use the nationwide reservation desk. I was not told at the time I made my reservation that both the restaurant and bar were completely closed. I asked for a 2nd floor water view room. When I arrived at 4:00 pm the room wasn't ready even though they told me they had my room as requested. If they held a room for a guest knowing it would be used that night it seems to me they would clean it and have it ready first. To top it all off, there was no hot water for a shower. When I called the desk they said they were having problems due to an unexpected large capacity of guest staying for the weekend and that the maintenance engineers would take care of it the next day. Didn't do anygood for that night. I was told they would take $20.00 off my bill. When I checked my bill it was the same price that I was told when I made the reservation. As far as I'm concerned the night should have been at no charge. My recommendation to anyone planning a trip to Port Angeles is to check out the Olympic Lodge.

Arrived to Red Lion in Port Angeles & everything was going great until they told us there was no breakfast even though in our reservation it claimed there was breakfast in the room. They begrudgingly offered $10 off the bill which seemed cheap when two peoples breakfast out will cost more than $10. The shower was disgusting with black mold, & upon checking my bill i didn’t even receive the discount I was promised. I will never recommend this hotel again. Insane prices for gross rooms & terrible service. Stay else where. You have been warned.

Dear Amanda, While we're grateful that your stay got off to a great start, we're sorry that we failed to impress you throughout your whole visit. It's disappointing that our temporary breakfast policy had a negative impact on your visit. We are also eager to get back to our standard offerings but are closely following CDC guidelines for the health and safety of our guests and personnel. Should you still have concerns with your final bill, we ask that you reach out to us directly so that we can look into it further and ensure everything is as it should be.
