The Kimpton Hotel Monaco Salt Lake City garners praise for its comfortable and stylish rooms, although some guests mention thin walls and a desire for in-room coffee and water. Its vibrant atmosphere is underscored by an eclectic, artistically charged decor that charms visitors. Nestled in a prime downtown location, the hotel is a stone's throw from top attractions and dining, although the value is sometimes questioned due to perceived high costs.
Service at the hotel is generally commended for its warmth and efficiency, notwithstanding occasional delays at the restaurant. The cleanliness standard is high, contributing to the overall boutique experience, which is enhanced by delightful amenities like complimentary bikes, even as guests miss on-site parking.

Hotel's Favourite
Ideally located in central Salt Lake City adjacent to light rail. The double queen room was spacious and well appointed. Nice complimentary toiletries in bath. Water pressure good. Housekeeping came every day and left room spotless. Very charming lobby for sitting, reading and enjoying the daylight. Special thanks for the warmth shown by Dee Dee and Justin. Juan was very polite in providing service to the room.

We screwed up an Airbnb stay and quickly moved here for a night with our dogs. Beds and pillows were comfy, and I felt they were very respectful about COVID concerns (hand sanitizer at elevator doors, staff wearing masks, etc). I think it’s a wee expensive— I guess you’re paying for the history of the Hotel Monaco?? I can’t figure it out. And also, I don’t think it’s super awesome for housekeeping to be on phone calls while cleaning at the crack o’ dawn. Just sayin.

I stayed here this past weekend and overall had a pleasant experience! Justin Wolfe at the front desk helped check me in and I had no issues. I booked a king spa room and it was heaven! Employees all wore face masks indoors and WiFi worked really well. I felt safe.
I picked the Kimpton for its location in downtown SLC where I was able to walk everywhere (temple square, capitol, Leonardo museum, pretty bird chicken, big O doughnuts, Eva bakery, etc.) were all within walking distance. There is a Harmon’s grocery store just 5-7 mins walk away. Overall had a great time here.
The jacuzzi was AMAZING! There is a Lush store 10 mins walk in the city creek mall in case you want to get some nice bath bombs but the hotel does provide bath salts.
Thank you Justin to you and your team’s amazing hospitality in SLC!!! I’d stay here again.

I’ve had excellent stays at this hotel before but this stay was odd and disappointing. First, I asked for a room on a high floor and perhaps shot myself in the foot. I got a room on the top floor only to discover I could high the intermittent hum of what I assume was the elevator motor. After a couple hours, I decided that I would not be able to sleep soundly so requested a room change which was kindly and effectively executed. My new room was quiet and great except for the bathroom sink which was apparently not cleaned as it still had lots of tiny beard hair from the prior guest shaving there. Kinda gross but par for this stay. So, maybe the big lesson here is that don’t stay on the top floor unless you don’t mind a little noise.
Room service was particularly disappointing. At 9:22 PM, I tried to order off the late night menu only to be told that I could not do so until 10PM. No exceptions I was told. Ok, so be it although is this 5 star service? Perhaps my expectations are too high. So, I call back after 10PM which took several calls to get through. I order some buffalo wings and a smoked turkey panini which were delivered 30 minutes later. Upon inspection, the panini was devoid of the kettle chips and the cranberry jam it was supposed to come with. The wings were missing the “house made blue cheese dressing” promised on the menu. So, I call back and get through on my third call. I ask, “wasn’t I supposed to get chips with my panini?” The response was, “we ran out of chips.” I was speechless. After a few seconds, I hear “would you like some fries?” Umm, ok. I didn’t even try to ask about the cranberry jam but did ask, “weren’t the wings supposed to come with dressing?” “No”, I was told. More silence. “Would you like some dressing”, I was eventually asked? Umm, yes. 20 minutes later, I get a plate of overcooked fries and some ranch for my now lukewarm, soggy wings. All in all, not the best stay. Again, I have had good stays here in the past but it will probably take some time for me to forget this one...

So glad we decided to stay here overnight. The hotel is very attractive and centrally located downtown. Everyone working there greeted us enthusiastically and warmly, from the valets, to the bellperson, to the front desk, on both arrival and departure. Our King room was large and comfortable. Loved the "throne" chair in the corner and the large bathroom with huge counter for two people to spread out their toiletries. Iron and ironing board were in the room and could be easily set up in the entry way away from the bed. The hotel restaurant and bar were open, though we did not use either. The bar is called The Vault as the hotel is in a building that used to be a bank. Elevators were posted for only one party to use at a time due to COVID which we appreciated. I don't often post reviews, but some of the recent reviews seem to be a bit persnickety or complain about "one-off" problems. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

The decor of the hotel was just funky enough to feel inviting and fun but not so much so you felt compelled to get a tattoo. They did a fantastic job of retro-fitting a sapcious room and interesting furniture into a building that was originally built for another purpose. One disappointment was the size of the bathroom which centered the toilet between the small sink and the bath tub /shower (I would like a little privacy and I have not liked shower curtains since I saw Psycho). The bartender was outstanding and the bar cozy and sufficiently comfortable. The lobby was fairly big but had a few areas to sit and read. There was public parking for $20 a day literally a few feet from the front door. The hotel was very close to the Temple complex and an easy walk to a beautiful and innovative shopping center. I would stay here again.

The Kimpton Monaco is comfortable but in need to updating. Rooms are relatively large but furnishings and services are behind the times for a hotel that seeks to compete with others in the surrounding area. These deficiencies are reflected in the price so if it is a price for services trade-off that one seeks, it works.

I stayed here on a points stay and there wasn’t anything really wrong with my stay...this is probably for those people who don’t expect a speck of dust in a room when they stay. So what was great about this hotel is the staff is very nice, there was an umbrella in the room for use and the look of the rooms was very 1930’s. However, the lamps are still old school turn the knobs, the shower head looks like it might be from then as well, and worst it took FOREVER for the hot water to get to a tolerable level. Oh, one other super positive though: this hotel is Super Pet Friendly.

I stayed here four years ago and absolutely loved it. The only thing missing in my room was a soaking tub.
This trip, I upgraded my stay to a king deluxe room (327) and was very disappointed. The tub didn't look like the tub advertised in the image, and the water never got hot enough. The wood furniture in the room needs to be touched-up.
When the fan came on, there was a rattling noise loud enough to interrupt sleep. (And it did, every time it came on during the night)
We found someone's bag of licorice on the floor next to the couch. We paid $20 for parking, plus a $15 surcharge for Wi-Fi (so we could stream TV. We took our Chromecast, but they had something else installed). I paid over $250 for the night expecting a similar experience as last time, and this was incredibly disappointing.

Lets start off with the pros for this hotel (there isn't much) but the location is spectacular. It is in the middle town within walking distance to the rail station and pretty much most of the attraction in the city. The airport is also a 30 min rail ride away.
Now on to the cons
- Poor Service
When I arrived to check in, I was greeted by the Front Desk Supervisor with an attitude. He was honestly so rude. There was no welcome and he went over the hotel and restaurant hours and seemed like he was ready for us to leave. Since I am a Diamond member and he hasn't mentioned anything about my breakfast amenity after he went over the restaurant, I asked him about the breakfast amenity and he rudely interjected me and said something like "I was just about to go over that" and told me that I can have a free breakfast. I asked him what the breakfast entailed and he said he doesn't know and that I have to ask the restaurant. My question is, how do you not know? This is a benefit given to Diamond members and you would think that the front desk would have this information. Other members of the staff also didn't seem to know about the breakfast amenity as I called to ask about the breakfast prior and the person that picked up the phone also had no idea.
Afterwards, I asked him if I can have a bottle of water since I saw that he had a fridge full of water behind him and he told me there is water in the room and I can trade in my welcome amenity(breakfast) for a credit to use on the water bottles. I asked him if he had any complimentary water bottles and he reluctantly grabbed two from his fridge full of water and told me that there's a water fountain behind me. Other guests were proactively offered water and I'm not sure why the water suddenly became such a precious good once it was my turn to check in.
The rooms:
The room was honestly so ugly and the beds were so uncomfortable. The sheets were scratchy, windows were dirty, and the shower wasn't lukewarm. I've stayed at Holiday Inns that have better beds and its honestly unacceptable for a Kimpton.
The food:
The breakfast at the Bambara was mediocre at best. The food was bland and the server was also not knowledgable about the Breakfast amenity. They ran out of orange juice during brunch and served me drinks in a chipped glass.
Overall, very disappointing stay. In my opinion, this property is definitely undeserving of the Kimpton brand. Definitely would not recommend anyone who has any expectation of service to stay here.

Since we drove, and it was summer, we didn't have the need. Tesla supercharging was just a few blocks away!
My suggestion would be to call the hotel directly. I'm sure they can address your concerns.
Hi Susan,
We have tubs in our standard rooms, but for an upgraded tub experience I recommend our Deluxe King Spa rooms with a large soaking tub. Don't hesitate to call us at 801-895-0000 with any way that we can further assist.
Travis
Valet parking is the only option through the hotel, at about $25/night. They shuttled our Tesla for use with absolutely no issues, and they are very expedient. We usually opt not to valet because we've had issues at other (very nice hotels), and it often takes much longer than just fetching the car yourself, but we didn't have those issues at all here. Highly recommend the car valet service!
