The San Mateo Inn is a motor hotel, hyper focused on making this a "uniquely Albuquerque" hotel that is equally safe, friendly and clean. We are a very easy stop for people passing through town on I-40, or I-25, and we are a great central location to use as home base. We are conveniently located near Uptown and Coronado Center for great shopping, entertainment and dining options. Sandia Peak is minutes away for hiking, biking and general outdoor adventure. We are within five miles of UNM, downtown, the fair grounds and more. Make the San Mateo Inn your budget friendly central hub for all of your Albuquerque excursions. We can't wait to make your stay a pleasant one!

Check-in was fast and the front desk guy was friendly, but when I went to my room it was hot and smelled musty. The room took a couple of hours to cool down, but the room still smelled bad. I attempted to use the pool, but noticed no towels are kept in the pool area. My room on my previous visit was much better.

We reserved a room at San Mateo Inn on a travel site and, once we arrived and checked in, realized the surrounding area was much too hectic for us. The owner was onsite at the time and extremely helpful in guiding us towards lodgings in a quieter area of town, even coached us in dealing with the normally less than helpful travel site, enabling us to get a full refund. Although we didn't stay at the Inn, we did peruse the room, which was very clean and well appointed, just too busy an area for us.

Friendly staff, clean rooms, enjoyed my stay. It felt like it was a home away from home. Had a wonderful and peaceful nights sleep. There was no issues with checking in or out. Would highly recommend staying here.

As someone who just needed some where to rest their head, it was a great stay! The front desk ladies who helped me check in were kind & prompt, same with the gentleman who helped me check out @ 530AM. The room was really nice, after reading reviews I was a little nervous. But honestly? You'd really only be bothered if you're picky or particular! There are definitely parts of the renovation that were not done perfectly, but for the price I really can't complain. Beds were super comfy! I recommend booking directly through their website, I got the best price there! Also there is a bit of an issue with Homeless in the area, but they were pretty harmless. Albuquerque is a dangerous area in general, but this hotel made us feel safe and welcome! Overall I would stay here again for business/rest.

Thank you for being so complimentary! We continue to work on improvements, and we keep encouraging the "powers that be" to address the vagrant issue. We're doing what we can: a fence around the property, regular patrols, cameras everywhere. On property, we're safe. Like most cities I know, Albuquerque has some work to do on cleaning up the streets.

This locally-owned establishment is quaint and comfortable. Good quality bed, clean rooms. The service is always good when I stay. Parking is not the greatest. The motel is an older building, and the layout and location are okay, but not the best.

I've stayed at numerous motels and hotels in the Albuquerque area but the San Mateo Inn is a hidden jewel. I've been to Sandia (dirty room) and Nativo (old musty smell), to name a couple off the top of my head, but this time chose the San Mateo Inn on 2/28/2023. It was a wonderful experience. I pulled in around 8PM and found a friendly lady at the check-in counter. She told me exactly how to get around the building to my room with a stop at the ice machine. I asked if she had a container I could use for ice so I didn't have to make an additional trip out of my room; it was after dark. She accommodated me kindly. The room was spotlessly clean and I asked for a quiet room, which is what I got. The bed was comfortable and had a variety of pillow types. I was quite comfortable and slept well. Large spotlessly clean bathroom. I was also advised that the Denny's, which was next door and very close, gave a 10% off discount to San Mateo patrons. Definite recommend. Great price for a great stay!

No issues. Staff was great and very helpful. I called them for extra blanket and they brought it promptly. Spacious rooms. Clean. Decent price. Free coffee and tea in the lobby in the mornings. Would recommend and would stay again as needed. Very safe feeling since the whole place is kinda gated in a little bit and they give you parking passes to park there.

I picked this inn because it wasn't a major chain and I wanted to give the small business my money. Boy, they took it. We got up in the morning to head out. There was no hot water. When I told the front desk they said,.. yeah we know. No offer to even reduce our bill. The door safety lock was detached from the door frame. There was loud car racing noise for most of the night. And the room coffee maker didn't work. I told them about that too and they didn't seem to care.

Since we've been busy addressing some issues, my reply is a bit slow. I apologize for several things: your experience, our staff's attitude and no hot water. We've addressed the list. Staff replaced, hot water stabilized and improvements made. Come see us again.

This is our return visit and stay here at San Mateo Inn, Albuquerque,NM. Same great value. The front desk ( mgr?) Lolita continues to be very friendly and accommodating. Again, with warmth and cheerful greetings to welcome us! Once again, we felt very comfortable and safe. Great- accessibility location, quiet, safe and free parking. Newly renovated, clean comfortable rooms and great shower. We even invited a friend to stay here this time and will be definitely come back:)

Fair disclosure--we stayed at San Mateo Inn last June and loved it. On this most recent trip, we made a reservation for Dec. 28. Unfortunately, we were caught in a hail and ice storm in Gallup at dusk that day, which made it unsafe for us to continue to Albuquerque. We immediately contacted San Mateo Inn and also the Hotels.com app, where we had booked the reservation. We knew that we were too late to cancel the reservation, but were hoping that someone--anyone--might show some clemency in this situation and perhaps split the difference with us, or maybe give us a credit for a future stay. Nope. OK, I understand. We had a contract and we lost. But it seems to me to be the height of insensitivity for both Hotels.com AND San Mateo Inn to be sending us cheery little e-mails asking how our stay was. It was non-existent, thank you, for which we paid nearly $100.
