The San Mateo Inn is a motor hotel, hyper focused on making this a "uniquely Albuquerque" hotel that is equally safe, friendly and clean. We are a very easy stop for people passing through town on I-40, or I-25, and we are a great central location to use as home base. We are conveniently located near Uptown and Coronado Center for great shopping, entertainment and dining options. Sandia Peak is minutes away for hiking, biking and general outdoor adventure. We are within five miles of UNM, downtown, the fair grounds and more. Make the San Mateo Inn your budget friendly central hub for all of your Albuquerque excursions. We can't wait to make your stay a pleasant one!

The San Mateo Inn emerges as a budget-friendly option praised for its value, with guests appreciating the tasteful updates and comfortable atmosphere, including welcoming touches like chocolates. While the convenience of its location near dining options and the airport is well-regarded, some visitors have noted a lack of breakfast offerings and dated amenities. Guests report a mixed bag regarding room quality, but many agree that the rooms are clean and the beds comfortable. The service at the Inn is frequently described as friendly and accommodating, contributing to a generally comfortable experience.

First, the good news. At least to the extent that anything about staying here is “good.” The positive is that the location is an easy on/off Interstate 40. Now . . . The photo of the entrance makes the property look inviting. But when a guest walks through that front entrance into the reception area, what’s noticeable is an odor of cleaning agent and/or room freshener that is overwhelming. Obviously, they are trying to mask the smell of something! Not good. Don’t worry about having breakfast in this area while whiffing a stench because breakfast is not offered. The mats outside the room doors are ratty and many are ripped. The property should just throw them out., as they create a bad suggestion of what might be inside. The carpet in the room I occupied was dirty, as were the sheets and one pillow case. The items looked to have such wear that I’d guess they can’t be properly cleaned. Everything in the room and bathroom is very old and way beyond its useful life. The shower water was barely hot enough for a comfortable shower. The ice machine may make ice but it does not dispense it, so assistance from the front desk is necessary to scoop out the ice. In terms of “overnight experience,” the worst factor is that this place is NOISY. San Matteo is a busy street and the drivers are wizzing by all night. The sound of the traffic awakened my wife and me throughout the night. Albuquerque is suffering from a sizable population of people without homes living on the streets . Many of them are in the area of this property. Accordingly, everything is locked almost all the time. In this area, even the restaurants lock the rest rooms INSIDE the restaurant! If you walk to a nearby restaurant, you are likely to be pan-handled. Move on . . .

For the money, IT CAN’T BE BEAT! OK, if you judge this place against the Four Seasons, you are ignorant. This is a budget-conscious motel that goes above and beyond its peers. Chocolates were left on the bed for us. Room was immaculately clean. Even the cheap coffee maker was clean and that never happens. Mattresses were comfy. Room smelled good. It had a fridge, microwave and hairdryer. A++ If you are on a tight budget but want to feel safe and comfy, GO HERE!

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the location. With that being said the owners have done a WONDERFUL job of keeping the grounds safe. We felt safe in parking lot and in our room. Our room was very nice and clean. Updated to a mountain country feel. Staff at front desk very kind. Affordable rates. We would totally stay here again. Left this morning safe and rested for the rest of our travels. Thank you guys for being part of our relocation adventure and being there for us to rest our heads!

Upon entering the room. it looks nice, clean and newer. The problem I had with the room was lack of power outlets. We had an extension cord, but if you don't you will have problems. The bathroom is very small. It was nice to have no carpeting, but it was a pain as we were on the 1st floor and the creaking of the people upstairs was annoying. The walls are pretty thin too. We overlooked the breakfast option thinking every hotel does it....nope not this one. For $4 more a night more we could have got breakfast at a different place. That was our mistake, but just take note.

The San Mateo Inn is our go-to overnight stop in Albuqueque. This has been our thrid stop in the last year. Charming, inexpernsive, and friendly staff. Denny's next door does a 10% discount on meals when you show them your room key. Not too far from great shopping, interesting sites, and other fine places to eat. Recommended for a pleasant evening.

A clean and comfortable room right off US40. Rooms are nicely decorated. Berry pretty. My dog was welcome. The whole property is surrounded by fencing and cameras to keep your cars safe at night. But the area didn’t seem particularly dangerous to me just urban. There is a Denny’s next door and a Starbucks across the street.

Anyone looking for a comfy place to sleep while on a road trip should stop at the San Mateo Inn. This motor hotel is conveniently located near highway 40. There was ample parking around the facility. There were welcome treats in the lobby for my pup, which he loved, as well as bottled water for my husband and I. The room had a spacious bathroom and comfortable bed.

Clean and nice. Nothing fancy, but the price was great. This hotel has been completely renovated. Has 24 hour on site security and a Denny’s next door. We stayed here with our golden retriever. We would stay here again. They go the extra mile on security. The beds were very comfortable. 24 hour coffee (k-cups) in the lobby
