We had a wonderful stay at the Renaissance Hotel in downtown Providence. The building is beatiful and right across from the State Capitol (our room had a view of the Capitol). The main train station is 5 minutes walk. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
The room was modern with ample space to move around and to place your luggage. Pillows were way too soft, didn't provide much support for sleeping. The wi-fi was a bit sketchy as they don't use a private network that makes you enter a password...More

Dinner in Providence is first-rate. There are plenty of great restaurants, especially in the Federal Hill area. Since the area is home to Johnson & Wales University, where there's one of the country's best Culinary and Hospitality programs, you'll find young students and recent grads who are working their best to further their careers. As a result, you find amazing food at the local restaurants (even the chains), and great service at the area hotels. The Renaissance always has young people working there, and they're always friendly, helpful, and professional.
The bottom line is, you can't go wrong eating anywhere in Providence.
