We booked this hotel for a long weekend. Our reservation was supposed to be for a King room with separate seating area. Our room did not even have a chair. Upon arrival, hotel staff did not explain anything about the building or where to find anything. The restaurant Ocho, which was one of the reasons we booked this property, had limited hours and no breakfast so we did not eat there. It is quite eclectic which can be fun, however, this place needs some help. Our room door locked, but you could see out into the hallway between the door and the wall. Hardly any outlets and the overhead fan didn't work. The website should not falsely advertise what you are receiving and what the room/restaurant is going to be. The outdoor seating area on our floor was outside the window of another room, the outdoor furniture was dirty and uncomfortable. We did not complain as there was nothing staff could do to make it better. When we checked out, we were not even asked how our stay was. Would not stay again and would not recommend.…
We stayed in the Penthouse and loved it. Split level with separate living area and bedroom. The verandah is a nice added touch. The customer service is beyond your expectations. We traveled with another couple and had plenty of room to socialize and have a drink before dinner in our room. Wish we had stayed longer as there was so much to see.
The hotel is old, quaint, small, and somewhat charming but pretty noisy. Does not serve breakfast the restaurant is open only part time and you take your life in your hands crossing a very busy street to get to the Riverwalk. BUT the worst was the damage fee of $50 that was on my bill. Our 11-year old 10-pound Chihuahua with arthritis was with us. We use a dog stroller to walk with her. They accused us of allowing our dog to make the scratches and gnawing marks on the door. She was not left in the room alone for even a minute. She hates wooden floors because she slips on them. She stayed in her cover on the bed. I didn’t get our invoice until we returned home. I spoke to the ‘room supervisor’. It was liking talking to a brick wall. I emailed the hotel manager. He only parroted the room supervisor. I received an image of a scratched up door with absolutely no proof it was even the door of the room we stayed in. No one would listen to any common sense. IF this was the room we stayed in, the gnawing marks were done by a much larger dog as they were halfway up the door. Will never stay at this place again. Advice: have a walk through of the room when you check in and one before paying your bill. Trust nothing or no one.…
The hotel is advertised as quaint, small, convenient to the Riverwalk, and says it is pet friendly. A big drawback is the extremely busy street you have to cross to get to the Riverwalk. Next breakfast is not available. They only make available a cookie and a cup of coffee. The restaurant is not open each night. The worst part of our experience stay came after we left. They emailed us an e-receipt for our stay. On the bill was a damage fee. They said upon examining 5he room they found scratched on the back of the room door. We had travel d with our 10-pound, 11 year old chihuahua. We did not leave her in the room alone even for one minute. She has arthritis in her hind legs and we use a stroller to take her with us. She also hates wood floors because she slips on them. So when we were in the room she was on her cover on the bed. I asked to see a picture of the damage. What was on the door looked like it had been done by a much larger dog. Plus there was absolutely no proof showing it was an image of the door to our room. O spoke to the ‘room supervisor’ and the hotel manger. They preferred to not believe me and only repeated “I apologize”. I presented my logic and in essence was a liar to them. I know how careful we were and always are when traveling with a dog. To not be believed in this manner was insulting. The damage fee was not the point. Not being believed was and is. We will never stay at Hotel Havana again. If toy do DEMAND a room inspection when you check in and on-ramp when toy check out - prior to paying.…
If you like the predictability of big-chain hotels, you may not like Hotel Havana. If you delight in the somewhat off-beat, aesthetically pleasing atmosphere of a well-kept, beautiful hotel with a funky artist’s vibe, you’ll dig this place. Here are some sensory highlights: - balconies and decks with pretty stone architecture to relax on (but frankly not much of a view) - beautiful (and creaky) wooden floors with Oriental rugs - 2 funky 19th century chairs literally made from long-banned tusks - retro refrigerators in every room stocked with retro sodas & craft beers - stone and tile bathrooms in rooms - incense greets you at the old wooden reception desk that looks straight from the set of an old movie - old-fashioned upholstered red chairs in lobby - cotton robes to use while in room - 10 minute walk on the less-traveled (but still beautiful) part of the River Walk to reach the more crowded and noisier part of The River Walk - parking is right at the hotel. We walked all over the River Walk and to the Alamo and left our car there at the hotel…
We stayed here because of a wedding and the rehearsal dinner was at the hotel. What a cool place. It is a very old hotel that feels almost like a bed and breakfast. The general areas still look very old and maintain the feel very well. The bedrooms on the other hand are very modern. There is a full sized refrigerator in the room and the beds are literally as comfortable as any I have slept on in a while. I read about the floors squeaking- they do- but frankly I found it inviting. They are wood-and old- so they squeak. The hotel is not smack in the middle of everything but it is very close- just the right amount of away in my opinion. They have several wonderful small outside patios/balconies where you can get away and enjoy a drink or read or whatever. The bar is great- The only negatives for us were 1. Our room had no chair or place to sit aside from the bed- not a big deal but could have been (several of our friends' said their rooms did) and 2. The hotel indicates it is directly across from the river walk. Technically, it is but the part of the river walk that it is close too is not where all of the shops and restaurants are. That is about a 2 mile stroll away and in the heat it was brutal. The staff was just great- super friendly and accommodating. The hotel has a rack for the bike share program so there are usually both manual and electric bikes there. It was a great place and we would certainly stay there again …
Enjoyed the stay on the third floor in a vintage hotel walking distance to the Riverwalk...my room had a large king size bed, wooden shutters, original wooden floors, ample bathroom, balconies on the second and third floor were restful!!! But don't expect a modern look of interior spaces....expect to hear the sound of creaking wood floors and nice aged furniture that go with a building that was built in the 30's! If you appreciate historic architecture like me (a retired architect), you will overlook the lack of modernization!!!
It was a real treat to stay at this hotel! Very quaint and authentic!!! The room was spacious and there were ample places throughout to visit over a bottle of wine. The river walk views were amazing and getting around downtown San Antonio was a breeze. The staff was very friendly and gave us plenty of suggestions for dining and other nightlife activities. The restaurant hotel- Ocho served some absolutely delicious brunch to us as we enjoyed our views over the Riverwalk. My wife and I highly recommend this hotel to all travelers and for local "stay-cations". A true gem!!!
the girlfriend and i decided to treat ourselves with a staycation. I was stunned by the incredible interior. The bar and restaurant downstairs offers a great happy hour with a great view of the river as well.
I checked into my room around noon and immediately had to run out for my day. When I returned, I unpacked. Nature called, and when I entered the bathroom I noticed that the bathroom smelled strongly of urine. I had to make a few phone calls and emails, but as soon as I was done I went downstairs to report my problem. The young woman asked me if I would consider changing rooms, and despite having just unpacked, I said I would. The next day, the woman at the front desk (who was actually the one who checked me in, but not the one who arranged the room switch), said she heard I had switched the room and was wondering why. I thought it was a weird question and it certainly wasn't asked in a concerned way. I told her why, and she came back at me that she had been in the room and she didn't smell any urine. She then asked me why I had waited so long to report the problem? Really??? WTF? Was she challenging my sense of smell? Was she suggesting perhaps I created the smell myself? I am not sure, but her response was completely unacceptable for a hospitality professional and I told her so. She flashed anger but then said sarcastically "Yessir." I did not ask for or expect a make-good and I had to repack, so what did she think I had to benefit from asking for a room that didn't smell like urine. The new room was not an upgrade, it was just a different room. Someone who had the right genes to work in a customer-facing job in the hotel business would have said "I am so sorry your room didn't work out. Is your new room OK?" The interaction was like a skit on Saturday Night Live or Little Brittain, except it wasn't funny. They're a ton of nice hotels in San Antonio, don't waste your money by staying at the Havana Hotel.…
