My room overlooked the roof of the lower story, so my view was mostly of air ducts and parking lot. I'm sure if I had called ahead about a room with a better view it would have been possible, so I'll chalk that up to being my own fault.

The bedding was comfortable and the radiator worked to heat the room quickly, so sleeping arrangements were nice and cozy. Unfortunately I found the bathroom quite small and cramped (absolutely nowhere to set toiletries down) and the small side table in my room was coming apart.

There are 2 hotel bars and we decided to check them out because why not? The one upstairs serves good drinks and is a bit sedate. The one downstairs has karaoke and pool tables and is really fun but serves truly terrible drinks. Choose your bar wisely. ;) They also have a coffee shop but sadly I didn't get a chance to try them out, they looked pretty good.

It’s a very historic hotel in the old quarter of Flagstaff.
It looks as though you’ve stepped back in time.
A bit tired around the edges, notably the stair carpet from the Lobby to the upstairs rooms. There is a lift. There is bar.
It has retained a lot of the original features and is very atmospheric. It is reputedly haunted.

There is no onsite restaurant but one affiliated to the hotel just next door, it is an Asian restaurant, but I had a marvellous steak and fries in there.

Our room was a corner bedroom and was tastefully decorated, the original bathroom is very small but adequate. There was a flame effect fire in the room which was a nice touch.
There are no coffee making facilities in the room.
We always take a travel kettle, mugs etc with us.
The mattress was pretty firm and the pillows were uncomfortable. However the main problem was invasive street noise ( being downtown) and lots of shouting from late night revellers.
Eventually we both slept.

I would recommend staying if you want an authentic old hotel with plenty of atmosphere, but don’t count on getting a good nights sleep from the street noise or from supposed hauntings.

Older hotel with lots of character,. This isn't always a good thing but it worked overall for Monte Vista even though I wasn't crazy about everything.
The room is small and a little cramped, the bathroom is small with the sink and mirrored in the room itself. The ambiance is unique hinging on creepy if you aren't willing to just enjoy your surroundings.
The staff were all friendly and helpful. The room was clean and safe. Hallways, stairs, and elevator are on the small side but think ambiance here.
The coffee at the front desk in the morning is fantastic! We didn't take the opportunity to enjoy the bar in the evening but it was crowded and looked fun.
Parking can be a challenge. One night we were on the street next to the hotel for free and the next we were a block away at the parking garage ($25./day). So it was fine as an average.
It is located in the downtown historic section and within walking distance of great restaurants and shopping (especially if you're going for a hike).
We enjoyed our stay and would rebook on our next visit.

I have given adequate time for a manager to reach out to me before writing this review. I will also write this on any platform I can find.

This hotel had always provided amazing memories anytime my fiancé and I visit, which is at least twice a year. The location cannot be beat, and I know people complain about the size of the rooms and bathrooms, but it's an old hotel guys! I think the rooms are cute and who is spending their vacation in the bathroom? We've stayed here AT LEAST 10 times, one of those for an amazing New Years Eve. I can't believe all it took was this last time for me to refuse to ever set foot in there again. But it did because there was no follow up, apology or refund that was discussed.

We went May 27th and purchased the 4th story, king suite on the main corner for almost $200 for one night. It's one of the nicer rooms, and we had it the previous time and loved it so much because it has amazing views of Flagstaff. This time we went up to an uncleaned room. There were empty togo containers of food, beverages in the fridge, towels all over and discarded face masks on the bed. We went down and informed the front desk clerk who was one of the rudest employees I've encountered there (however, none of them have ever been friendly). There was no apology and he told us to come back in about an hour. When we returned the exact same comforter was on the bed. Now, I am hoping they have multiple sets of the same comforter, but since all the rooms have different comforters, I am guessing not. Later that night, around midnight, I broke out into hives that preceded to cover my entire body. I have never broken out in hives before or even come close to any severe allergic reactions. We were going to spend the next morning enjoying the beautiful weather and playing frisbee golf, but since I got zero sleep and was an itchy bitchy mess, we drove back home instead around 5:30 am. The hives continued to appear and disappear over different areas of my body for 24 hours. When we called to inform them about the hives, again, no apology. She said she would have a manager return our call. Bet you can guess what happens next! Thats right, no phone call occurred.

My guess is that since they were in a rush to clean our room they just sprayed the absolute crap out of the comforter with some time of disinfectant that my skin could not stand. So a word of warning if you have allergies to chemicals or sensitive skin in general, do not come here. If you like to be treated with respect a kindness, do not come here. If you like businesses with integrity and humility, do not come here.

If you're a too cool for the rest of the world hipster jerk; this is the place for you.

Perfect location in center of Flagstaff with clean, classic style. Awesome barroom with great service and selection. The adjacent Asian restaurant offers great food in a nice atmosphere. Rooms are clean if a bit small, but make sure you do not get the room right above the bar which can be quite noisy until late in the evening.

I've never stayed at an American hotel that cared so little for their guests. We had a concern about our room, since we thought their advertising about a room with a view was misleading. The front desk staff were utterly stumped, so we asked to speak with the manager. The manager couldn't find us another room. We asked about being comped in some way because the advertising was misleading, and she suggested that she would just cancel our reservation. The room itself was dingy, with a dirty bathroom floor and disintegrating curtains. Housekeeping never came to clean the room. All in all, it wasn't worth the money at all, and it was just not a pleasant stay. The attitude of the staff just made everything worse.

One of my sons who had never been to Arizona recommended that we stay in this historic, supposedly haunted hotel on a planned visit to Flagstaff, so we booked it. In fact, we paid extra for a room with a view. WHAT a mistake! We checked in and we were assigned room 409. The "Humphrey Bogart Room". WiFi was supposedly free in this hotel so I tried to log in. No WiFi at all. Zero. Having just gotten to the room after a long drive I thought I'd watch the news on TV before going down to complain about the WiFi. The TV didn't work at all either. Nothing.

I went downstairs, registered my complain and was told "Yeah, the WiFi doesn't reach up to the the 4th floor. We'll get you another room." They moved us down to Room 303, the "Air Supply Room". Apparently it's a band. I was assured it was also a room with a view. See picture of the view. In 303 at least the TV worked but internet was spotty at best. We turned on the overhead light. See picture of switch and the views.

We were staying for two nights so we put the sign on the door after the first night so the cleaning people would know we wanted our room cleaned and fresh towels. Later in the day I went down to the front desk to ask when the room would be cleaned and we were told the cleaning people had just left but if we needed fresh towels, they would be provided. We did get them.

Oh! And if you're 4.5' tall, the shower should be okay. Otherwise be prepared to take your shower on your knees in the small bathtub, like I did.

WHAT a DUMP this place is. Do NOT book a room in this hotel! It's basically a really bad joke. Someone should buy it and totally restore it.

My wife and I stayed here on the first half of our Route 66 trip. This was one of the best hotels along our route. We loved the classic "Roaring Twenties" feel of the place, and the themed rooms - we were in the Carole Lombard Room - are a nice touch. The "Love Before Breakfast" lobby card on the wall got me interested in watching the movie! Beds were very comfortable and the room was very quiet. We did have an inebriated neighbor wake us up with his singing at midnight, but he quieted down and we had an uneventful night after that. The room was not air conditioned but the windows did open and we had a ceiling fan. Staff was friendly and helpful, and the hotel is reasonably priced.

Last year I stayed at Hotel Monte Vista in a suite and knew it was a good place to stay. However, this year, I had a regular room and was sadly disappointed. The room was small, which I expected based on the age of the hotel. However, I didn't expect everything to be old and worn. The room was last room on the 4th floor and the light purple paint and the horrid purple bedspread made the room feel dingy. The hotel may be old and historic, but that doesn't mean the walls and bed coverings also need to be old. A fresh coat of paint and a simple white bedspread would make all the difference.

The other issue with the last room on the 4th floor was the metal walkways outside used for maintenance of HVAC, roof, etc was used at night (employees?) and the metal clanging of people walking on it and talking kept us awake for a long time.

Unfortunately, I won't be staying here again.

We were looking to have a great time while in Flagstaff but were greatly disappointed. From the filthy carpets, a/c units, all night noisy bar noise, inadequate parking, to rude front desk personnel, you can find another place that is clean to stay. When we walked into the room, the smell from the carpeting was a bit overwhelming along with the a/c unit filter that needed to be cleaned was very off putting. Since we rented a vehicle, we were advised that we needed a permit to park on their lot. Lo and behold, after receiving our permit we found that they had given out twice as many permits to park in the lot. When I asked if there were alternate lots where we could park our vehicle, I was told that they only had 20 parking spots. Rather that providing any alternate information for the parking, I was told that since there was an architectural problem when they acquired the property we would have to find a spot on the street if we wanted to park our car. Rather than taking responsibility and limiting the parking permits, they expect their clients to figure out what they should do to rectify the parking problem instead of working with other companies to use their empty lots to accommodate their guests, it was a "you figure it out yourself" attitude. If you have a choice, there are other hotels that are modern that are away from the central part of Flagstaff that would care about their guests unlike the Monte Vista that thumbs their nose at the paying guests. Stay Away if you want a comfortable place to stay.

The Hotel Monte Vista is not pet friendly. Please see below from their website: "Unfortunately we are NOT able to house your furry friends, so please make arrangements for your pets at home. Service animals are always welcome, just let us know beforehand please!"

There is also a public lot across the street from the hotel that allows overnight parking and is affordable. So if the Hotel lot is full it is a back-up option.
