- Beautiful view from the room in the Mailani Tower. We had a room with a very large balcony with sofa + table&chairs. It was worth it.

Normally the local tradewinds will keep the air around the rest of the islands including Oahu clear from the volcanic air being produced on Hawaii island. Should the winds shift to what is termed locally as Kona winds then they can certainly bring the volcanic air down to the rest of the island chain including Oahu. The eruption is occurring in an isolated area on Hawaii island which is 50 min by plane from Oahu.At this time it is not affecting any of the other Hawaiian islands as well as most of Hawaii island other than at the small isolated area where it is currently erupting.
