Though this is definitely a beautiful, luxury property, we were disappointed to get an garden-view room even though we were booked for sea view. The room was nice if a bit small. We were unable to sit on the beach due to winds and only got half of our umbrella&chair fee returned. Our favorite part of this hotel were the...

Definitely Royal Hawaiian! We haven't personally experienced the Moana Surfrider, but only a handful of hotels may top up the excellency provided by the RH! Rooms beautifully decorated, but make sure you book an ocean view, it is situated exactly on Waikiki beach, offering direct access to the beach from the hotel, and if you would like more privacy, they have an outdoor pool. Food superb, and staff exceptional, typically what you can expect from a Luxury Collection Hotel. Plenty of shops also available inside the hotel, and plenty of amenities. The decor is fantastic giving the hotel a character of its own. Cannot recommend it enough! :)

Hi Maureen04,

I understood the cabanas to be $175 per day, perhaps you want to check the price? If you telephone the RHH direct, ask to be put through to Beach/Pool Services and you'll get to speak to someone to clarify. They told me that Cabana 1 and 2, on the restaurant side, get the morning sun.

We actually cancelled our Cabana when we arrived, you need to give them plenty of notice to cancel, e.g. 24-48 hours (check this too) if you want a refund. They still deduct 8% as a penalty for cancelling and I had trouble getting them to refund my money to my credit card, as you could see in my TA review.

There did not appear to be any extra services in the cabana, except that I believe you are allowed to consume alcohol there as opposed to on the beach, where it is not allowed. I thought the cabanas looked expensive for what they were, and if you wanted, you could get up at 6.30am and grab a lounge that get the morning sun?! It would only cost you a sleep in!!!

I would much prefer to book a sun lounge on the beach, it is not at all far to the spa from the beach chairs and umbrellas, and it seems better value to me.

I would advise you to book ahead to reserve a sun lounge on their internet booking site for your first day. You can select your sun lounge position on the beach closer to the spa if you want. When you arrive at RHH, go to the beach/pool services and chat to them about reserving for the rest of your stay. I don't think you really know exactly what suits until you get there and see the set up, but if you have your first day organised through their website, you should be ok, but as the cabana is costly, don't reserve that first. It was very busy when we were there over July 4 week, but there were still some cabanas available, but not sun lounges. There are also non RHH brown chairs and umbrellas for $50 you could book once you are there. We liked these the best, but they don't have soft drink service or food like the RHH chairs and umbrellas and cabanas.

Next door to RHH, at Outrigger, very close by, they have blue chairs and umbrellas available to rent to, and these are only booked on the day. So there's always that as an option too. You need to get to the Outrigger to reserve 9am or so.

You get lots of sun everywhere, I love it too, but the shade is required too...good luck

The morning and evening snacks are a nice perk, but if you much prefer the old glory of the pink part of the hotel, you won't be missing a ton. I stayed in the tower and the view is stunning, but the old hotel looked really charming if you are into that sort of thing. if you prefer modern, go with the tower.
