Halepuna Waikiki by Halekulani stands out for its excellent location, cherished by guests for its proximity to the beach and local attractions, while maintaining a tranquil atmosphere. The hotel's cleanliness and modern amenities, including the much-enjoyed pool, are frequently highlighted, although some visitors feel the pool area is compact and certain amenities are missing. While the service generally garners positive feedback for being attentive, there have been occasional reports of slower service. Room opinions are mixed; they're praised for their upkeep but critiqued for size and occasional noise. The value for money aspect receives divided opinions, with some guests deeming it reasonably priced and others suggesting it's pricey.

The Halepuna provides fantastic service, quiet/comfortable rooms, and fantastic value for anyone seeking a lowkey Waikiki getaway. The staff meets the same excellent standards for customer service as at big sister across the street at half the nightly rate. Special mention goes to Ms. Lily Zheng, who provided us fantastic service throughout our stay and additionally helped arrange prompt return of a pair of shoes we left behind. Yuki, one of the pool attendants, was also especially friendly and helpful, keeping us in towels and mai tais all week, The bell desk and valet was similarly prompt, welcoming, and helpful when wrangling our luggage or car at all hours.

The pool and hot tub have a relaxing vibe with a wonderful view. Unlike other similarly-priced hotels in the area, the premises are overall very quiet, minus the unavoidable but infrequent noises of the big city right outside your window. If you, like us, are fans of getting as much sleep as biologically possible while on vacation, you'll be pleased. Housekeeping, which many other hotels have attempted to skimp on at the "4 star" price point in recent years, is prompt and thorough. Our room was cleaned and linens were changed every day. No annoying requests necessary. Staff was available at all hours and responded promptly. Room charge privileges at the Halekulani made meals and House Without a Key or Orchids a breeze. My wife and I have been to a number of "4/4.5 star" hotels around Waikiki over the years, and the Halepuna is far and away our favorite at this price level. We do not have children yet, but we noticed many couples with young children here who seemed to be well accommodated. However, large groups or families with older children are probably going to want something with a bigger/louder pool area.

Well, this was a pleasant surprise - we got to stay at our favorite hotel in Waikiki, by accident LOL. We made other arrangements due to a family celebration, so we were not able to stay here. But then United cancelled our flight back, which meant we missed our connection home. We were able to fly the next day, and I called at 7:00 am, and Sujiin was just so delightful and accommodating. Yes, I had asked if we could check in early morning and stay until the next morning, and she found a rate for a garden room with ocean view, and it was perfect. Her calmness and friendliness, while being professional, needs to be commended, especially when we had been up since 4:00 am figuring out how we were going to get home.

Another that needs to be commended, Sara. I have a weird sense of humor, but she was up for the game. As mentioned, we have stayed here before, and at that time, they had provided us with Halapuna water bottles, which we loved - unfortunately, we lost the rubber seal and were not able to replace it, she tried upon a visit to the hotel, which we did while in Waikiki. When we arrived, I mentioned that .... she laughed and she really went out of her way - she gave us new bottles, which is just way over the top, and appreciated.

The above is one of the main reasons we LOVE this hotel, attention to personalization and friendliness goes a long way to making a guest feel comfortable. The other is the room, bathroom and terrace...all fantastic and so comfortable. It was lovely having a terrace with two lounge beds, which made it nice to sit and read without going to the pool area.

The bed is one of the best we have ever slept in, the mattress, linens and pillows made for a most comfortable sleep. Also to mention, the best a/c that cools without being loud and obnoxious.

Some, I see, have complained about the size of the room, it has more than enough room with a king bed, desk area, chair and even room to exercise ... we were happy.

All in all, it felt like coming home and that is more than what to expect from a hotel, and we thank you for having a room open for us under unusual circumstances. In two years, will return and we will be more than happy to stay here again. Also to mention Eric and Keko, as well as the woman (ugh forgot name) at the valet parking when we arrived...all great!

This is the luxury hotel at the best location in Waikiki yet with affordable room rates. The higher floor of Ocean View room provides gorgeous view of Waikiki beach beyond Halekulani. I think it can be called as the room category of Ocean Front. Service was excellent from bellmen to front desk agents as well as the engineer who fixed the shower temperature problem quickly. The overall atmosphere of the hotel from the lobby to Jim, pool and the hospitality room on the 8th floor made me feel special and very comfortable. The room and the lanai is a bit tiny but good enough to enjoy watching sea and sky specially sunset and its afterglow. It would be perfect if I could have a side table to a sofa set near the window. The things I like about this hotel are no resort fee and no parking fee which have a value of about $100 in total. Yet, you can have a free beach bag with beach towels and there is a shower to wash your feet near the parking entrance before returning into the hotel. Having Halukulani bakery on the 1st floor of the hotel is the bonus! Overall the most affordable luxury hotel for a solo or a couple travel.

My wife and I stayed two nights at Halepuna Waikiki and it exceeded our expectations in almost every way. The hotel is beautiful and the service was attentive and responsive from the time we arrived through checkout.

Our deluxe ocean view room was comfortably sized and thoughtfully designed with an efficient layout, large floor-to-ceiling windows, and a clean, modern bathroom that included a spacious shower/tub and a Japanese-style toilet. The balcony was also comfortably sized. It was a truly relaxing space.

Overall, we found the atmosphere at Halepuna calm and sophisticated. The pool area, in particular, is a highlight. It was not overly crowded, even though we were there on a weekend, and the poolside service was excellent.

However, I must address the one glaring flaw: the hotel's commitment to playing early-'90's smooth jazz in all common areas, including the pool and gym. It's as if they found a single CD from 1993 and decided that was the vibe for eternity. The music doesn't just set a mood; it actively haunts your soul. It's the kind of soundtrack that feels strategically chosen to repel anyone under the age of 50. I half-expected to see a contract on the wall stating that Kenny G and his soprano sax were the official, binding soundscape of the property...

That said, if you can mentally block out the relentless smooth-jazz invasion, everything else about this hotel is outstanding. If they ever update the playlist, this place will be flawless!!

My husband and I really needed a getaway for relaxation and self-care, and decided to book with Halepuna. This was our first trip to Hawaii and we wanted a room with ocean views—and that’s exactly what we got! Upon arrival, front desk staff greeted us with complimentary slides/sandals, and the room had complimentary customized water bottles. The room was very clean, and had a small balcony to step out on to take in all the beauty of Waikiki! The amenities were top notch! We worked out in the gym, filled our bottles with unlimited purified water provided for free by the hotel. We ate at the (Halekulani) bakery next door, and absolutely loved that this hotel was steps away from the beach. WiFi was easily accessible, the bathroom had a bidet. This was one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in and I look forward to coming back and staying at Halepuna again and again!

We loved the Halepuna! It's a beautiful hotel with amazing amenities and I found it immaculately clean. It's in a great location tucked away from the main tourist street, Kalakaua, but easy to get to Kalakaua shops when you need to. The infinity pool is what drew me in initially when making plans for our trip. We arrived a few hours ahead of our 3PM check in time but they allowed us to go to the pool and relax while we waited. Their pina coladas may be the best I've ever had. All of the staff from the housekeepers, the registration team, and especially the bellmen, were very friendly and accommodating. The adjoining bakery for quick grab and go coffee and delicious pastries was very conveniently located. There is beach access across the street and the Halepuna has a foot bath outside the hotel so guests aren't tracking in sand and muddy feet into the hotel. It's on a dead end street so the traffic outside isn't too overwhelming, though it can get backed up when there are events in the area. We appreciated that the hotel gave us a heads up about extra congestions in the area by leaving a notice at every room's door about a festival that would bring a lot of traffic to the streets. It helped us plan for plenty of time to get to the airport that day. I wish I could stay at the Halepuna in every city I ever travel to. It is the nicest hotel I've stayed in and I would recommend it to anyone.

If you like quiet elegance with personalized service, this boutique hotel is the right one for you. We found high standards of cleanliness (despite the traffic from beach goers), a quiet, contemporary but warm atmosphere and gentle staff throughout.
The location is perfect, tucked away in a quiet corner with a back and front entrance to nearby shopping areas, restaurants and a small beach. The hotel does not charge a resort fee like others nearby. You can get a beach bag with towels from the front drive and take a short walk to the beach.
We booked a room facing the ocean with a small balcony and were pleased that we were able to watch the sunset from our room one evening when we were too tired to go out.
As a sister hotel to Halekulani, it was convenient to dine at House without a key and enjoy the live jazz bar at Lewer’s lounge.
It has a small infinity pool just right enough for the number of guests attending with an attentive bar and pool staff.
There is a self service laundry room near the pool area which was helpful to us to use while in the pool.
We did not get to try the restaurant (we did not get the breakfast option! But the bakery of Halekulani served good coffee with great baked goods.
We loved our stay at Halepuna and hope to return again.

For our honeymoon in Hawaii we stayed at this hotel. All in all the choice was right so I would recommend the hotel to other couples or families. The hotel is located in an excellent and strategic area to move easily from waikiki around the island and depending on which means you use. On foot you reach restaurants bars and supermarkets that are literally every meter. The hotel is very nice and the rooms are nice and modern. It's all motorized, from the shutters to the bathroom toilet which is Japanese with the bidet included! Personally we find the rooms a little small by our standards but for the price and other benefits we certainly have made a reason. Included in the price c is the swimming pool which is located on the 8th floor along with other services. Comfortable pool clean. Excellent self service laundry service that we used! In general very recommended

Halepuna Waikiki is a gorgeous hotel and puts you in a central location of Oahu, so walking to the beach, shops, and restaurants is a breeze. Our room was so clean and smelled good too! The lobby feels brand new and has a gorgeous, zen-like Japanese-inspired ambiance. The pool is the perfect size and has a view of the ocean. The pool bar has great drinks. The whole hotel felt clean and modern. We loved having breakfast at the hotel restaurant UMI, which has a Japanese theme, and the food was delicious. I stayed with my husband and 7 month old son. They offered a crib, but we used our pack and play since we had it with us. We loved the remote control shades in the room, which had a set of sheer and blackout shades. We slept soundly since we didn't hear any street noise from our hotel room, and we stayed there on a Friday night too. The bakery connected to the hotel is incredible and a must visit. Lastly, all of the staff, from the valet, bellhop, front desk and cleaning crew, were all so kind and helpful. Miles was so helpful and kind with our bags and welcoming us to Honolulu. Keiko at the front desk was also so helpful with our check out. I would definitely stay here again!

"We are satisfied with the excellent service for our 40th-anniversary celebration trip. We celebrated with the wine provided. The room is new, equipped with a washlet in the toilet, and has a bathtub with a detachable showerhead, making it suitable for Japanese guests. The drawback is the lack of a table in the room and the inconvenience of needing a $9 quarter for laundry as cards are not accepted."

a very quick walk to the beach, there is one road to cross but it's not a main road and is very pedestrian friendly. For a hotel that is not ocean front, it's about as close as you can get to the ocean!

The Halepuna is tucked in between the Sheraton and the Halekulani. You can see the ocean, but you see more of the Sheraton and the Halekulani than you do the Ocean. We were on the 15th floor. It's a very small balcony, not really a veranda. Room enough for two small chairs and a small table. You definitely look directly into the Sheraton Rooms and vice versa. There is a wall between you and the adjacent room balcony. Sitting out is noisy with air conditioning units and traffic. I've never stayed at the Halekulani, but this sister property although very nice is not a twin sister. There are no food services (no bar, coffee, restaurant, etc) though you can get drinks and food at the pool on the 8th floor when it is open. I enjoyed staying here; it is very quiet, clean, comfortable and nice...but the dramatic price difference does reflect in the views and services. You simply aren't getting a $1200 room at the Halekulani for $600 at the Halepuna.

$150 sounds about right. You can’t use the pool at a Halekulani but you can use the restaurants and spa, charging back to your Halepuna room. The breakfast package includes breakfast at the Halekulani.

Sorry I can’t assist as I’ve never stayed in a standard room. The hotel itself had a full refurb a couple of years ago and all rooms are first class! I would suggest a partial ocean view if it’s feasible as you really don’t want to forego a glimpse of the blue water every day! The Halepuna staff are so welcoming and very helpful. We wouldn’t stay anywhere else when we travel here!
