The Luana Waikiki Hotel & Suites is celebrated for its cleanliness and well-appointed rooms, despite some guests noting occasional housekeeping lapses and wear in furnishings. Its prime location earns praise for its beach proximity and quiet ambiance, yet the hotel's Hawaiian atmosphere and live music charm visitors despite calls for updated decor.
While the kitchenette-equipped rooms and various leisure activities add convenience, some travelers caution about extra fees and the dated condition of amenities. Overall, the hotel's friendly service and good value proposition are acknowledged, though experiences with service can be mixed.

It's the little things that make a great holiday and the staff at Luana Waikiki Hotel & Suites did this. We arrived after a 10h flight from Australia at about 7am. Went to drop our bags and new we would have to wait for the normal check-in. On arriving we were advised that we may be able to check in now with a small fee if our room was available. It was not. We were ok with that but the lady on reception said she would check if she had anything else and found that there was a slightly better room (with a kitchenette) available but would let us have it for the same price - Nice. While she confirmed with room service that is was ready to go she finished the book in and confirmed we were there for the week. When room service confirmed the availability she then advise she wouldn't charge us for the early check-in or the upgrade - What a great start to our holiday thank you. The room was clean, had a nice layout with the Kitchenette (Stove, bench oven, Microwave, Coffee maker. etc..), sofa, balcony and small dining table - very nice. The Hotel is in a good location only about 10 minute walk from the main Waikiki area and a few minutes from the Waikiki Tolley (which we used a lot). Maid service was on the 3rd day and every 2 after that. Again they were very flexible and when we asked if they could come back in a hour, they did.

Aloha marknK959AC, We are glad we were able to allow you an early check in after your 10 hour flight and probably at least two hours at both airports. A very long day indeed. And to receive a complimentary upgrade from a friendly, caring and helpful front desk staff member, you were definitely starting out your trip right. We are happy you enjoyed your clean and well equipped room and that you appreciated being within close walking distance to excellent shopping, world class restaurants, the Waikiki Trolley stop and the white sand beach bordering the blue blue Pacific Ocean. We hope to welcome you back soon. Regards, Clem

We were looking for a cheaper Waikiki hotel with good ratings and Luana Hotel & Suites ticked all the boxes. The hotel also has some of the cheapest onsite parking in Waikiki. Waiting for the valet can be annoying, so make sure you are downstairs at least 10 minutes before you want to leave.
Our room was clean and spacious, plus the bed was really comfortable. It was great having an almost full size kitchen, although we only used it to make breakfast. The double glazing blocked out all the road noise below. The air conditioner was really noisy but we managed to fix the rattle.
We arrived at 9am on check in day and they kindly let us into our room early. They also gave us a small bottle of sparkling wine since we were on our honeymoon, which was a lovely touch.
They said housekeeping was every 3 days but they actually made up our room every 2 days, which was a bit confusing. Other guests complained the pool was too cold but I found it refreshing, it was over 20 degrees Celsius.
If you are looking for a cheaper hotel in the Waikiki area and are scared off by the terrible ratings some hotels have, Luana is a good choice.

Aloha Emma W, Thank you for recommending the Luana Waikiki Hotel and Suites, to all the readers of Tripadvisor.com. The Luana Waikiki is reasonably priced compared to other hotels in Waikiki. And we strive to provide a clean and comfortable well equipped room. With the cold, wet weather we have been experiencing lately, we have turned up the heat in our salt water heated pool. Thank you for making the Luana Waikiki, your hotel of choice in Waikiki! Take care, Clem

This is my fourth stay. This time, a $37 guest amenity fee was collected per night. Upon check-in, He explained that housekeeping service would be provided every 3 days instead of every day, but the service was provided on the 3rd and 5th days. I use the towels in my room every day, so I want them changed every day. The air conditioner is too loud. The water pressure in the shower is too weak. I was not weak last night. I hope you will not only refer to our opinion, but also improve shower water pressure as soon as possible. Wi-Fi service is provided and coffee is served in the lobby every morning. All the staff are very kind.

We have stayed here 5 or 6 times over at least 10 years and return because we love the location, views, and having a kitchen, but are disappointed that the rooms are looking very dated and drab as the furnishings haven't changed in the time we've been staying here. The bathroom doesn't have any storage and water gets over the floor when having a shower. The housekeeping services are hit and miss, and they only did a full service once in 6 nights of stay, although one day they came at 9am and we were still getting ready for the day so asked if they could come back in 15 minutes but they said they were leaving the floor we were on so wouldn't be able to. Not great service for the money you pay to stay here. Also the balcony floor was very dirty and sticky. The rooms all needs a fresh update so it feels more modern and nice to walk into at the end of a day. Also there is not enough lighting throughout the room. We don't want to be negative but all these things really stood out to us this time, as much as we want to enjoy staying there because of the other factors we like.

Aloha Kiwitennisfans, We truly appreciate that you continue to choose the Luana Waikiki and Suites, for your stay in Waikiki! Our apologies for the misunderstanding as the housekeeper meant she would not be able to return in 15 minutes but she could return later in the day. The property expects to do a refresh at the end of 2024, into 2025. Mahalo for your feedback, Clem

There’s an additional $40 per day for amenities like towels, soap, etc and also another $40 per day for parking. That means an extra $80 + taxes on top of what you pay for reservation. The room we got was not clean. The floors had sticky stains, the toilet had some dirt on it, the curtains were broken and the AC was too noisy. The furniture inside room was too old and made creaking sounds. Some of the staff are friendly, others are arrogant. The carpet in lobby is dirty. Hotel location is good though.

Good: Nice staff everywhere from frontdesk to valet parking to maintenance Beautiful furniture in lobby Location, albeit 10-15 minute walk to beach Fish Hook $10 daily coupon Water with lemon and Orange slices in lobby for guests Ability to sign out beach chairs and umbrella Nice pool with great seating Pool has a bathroom with shower BBQ area Good towels for beach and good orange towels for pool Good selection of TV channels Great Xmas Tree and wonderful Xmas piped into Pool area 3 elevators Daily Honolulu Newspaper Self service laundry room Great ice machine Nice wine and cheese mixer for guests
Bad: Valet Parking Only Option at $40 per night; Rugs in hallways really need to be either shampooed or completely removed; Housekeeping not very efficient, could be better by using a real mop with water to thoroughly clean floors; Bathroom with Shower at pool needs to be cleaned daily;
Ugly: The Air Conditioner Unit needs a thorough cleaning! I cleaned my room and couldn’t help but notice a black residue on the floor, particularly close to the AC. I started to wipe down the outside of the AC with Lysol wipes and the clothes were black! I then took off the front plastic panel and was horrified to see the metal slats completely covered in mold. I wiped down the panels…took 30 wipes to do it and then sprayed a microbial spray to kill any further fungus/mold.
All in all the Luana is a well run Hotel but closer attention needs to focus on housekeeping…maybe routine inspections of prepared rooms to ensure an optimal level of sanitation and hygiene. And I suggest routine maintenance with the air conditioners. When the AC has a black mold sludge adhered to the cooling metal…then the AC is working very hard to cool air and just cannot… Lastly, I have great concerns with the Mold and the health hazard imposed by this amount of mold, particularly when it is continually being blown into the living space. The only reason why I stayed my duration was due to my impeccable cleaning skills and the massive amount of lysol wipes that I used while staying at the Luana and I would not have gotten a refund had I checked out early!

We just spent 2 very pleasant weeks in this hotel. For us, a great location, a little away from the typical Waikiki hustle and bustle at Fort de Russy Park. Still within walking distance of everything. Rooms had a nice view, a good size and very clean with a small balcony. Unfortunately, we didn't have a room with a king bed and sofa bed as we had booked, just 2 queen beds, but it was OK. Staff, especially the guys from the valet, were very nice. There is a free water dispenser in the lobby and coffee in the morning. Beach towels are also free. You can even "adopt" fish in a glass...🤣 Daily newspaper is available free of charge every morning. We were greeted with a mussel egg and cookies as we left, yummy. Unfortunately, the price of valet parking had gone up by $5 (from the time of booking) from the advertised $35 to $40, but you generally have to factor in this amount here. We felt very comfortable and will definitely come back! Mahalo

Exceeded my expectations based on price compared to other hotels. The staff is friendly and helpful.
The room was clean and shower was good. WiFi worked well. Only compliant is the room is a little dark, even with all the lights on due to the shades on the lamps.
Housekeeping was provided once during our stay, but I was able to get extra towels and coffee from the front desk with ease. Overall, a really good experience. The Friday night wine and cheese hour was a pleasant surprise, the entertainment was enjoyable and we liked sampling the Local beer.
We would definitely book here again.
The location is awesome, it's within walking distance to everything in Waikiki. Right around the corner is the best breakfast in Waikiki at Eggs and Things. The room we stayed in had a coffee maker, sink, toaster oven and small fridge, and there was a nice Grill provided on the patio area. We only stayed here for 5 nights, but would have been perfect for dinner in if we had stayed longer.

Aloha 464jessiej, We are happy we "Exceeded" your expectations. We are delighted that you enjoyed your clean room, the friendly and helpful service provided to you with Aloha and the thrice weekly wine and cheese and craft beer reception. As you mention, the location is awesome...walking distance to everything Waikiki has to offer, yet located away from the noisy and crowded concrete jungle of central Waikiki. We are glad you enjoyed a "Great Experience" and have made the Luana Waikiki Hotel and Suites, your hotel of choice in Waikiki! Take care and visit again very soon! Clem

Just spent 10 wonderful days at the Luana, our first time at this hotel… our room was very comfortable, kitchenette fully stocked with everything we needed, beds were comfortable, AC worked great, could have had more comfortable pillow as they were all pretty flat, but we managed and I am certain they would of changed them if we had asked, as they helped immediately with any issues that we had or heard from others. The fish hook restaurant is fantastic, great food, great service, especially John who normally took my order daily, always smiling and polite. Pool is clean and very refreshing. Front desk staff are very helpful. Elevators are busy at times but can’t be helped, always stairs if your able to use. Location to the beach is about half a mile, takes about 10 minute leisurely stroll through the park that is full of different birds and chickens. Lovely wine and cheese gatherings a couple times a week, get to meet other guests, good Hawaiian music. The building is older decors, my room and common areas were very clean, some guests I heard expected more, so if your not too picky, and want simple, clean comfortable accommodation for a decent price where they look after you, then this is the hotel you want. Thanks Luana, see you in the spring.

We were continually happily surprised by the amenities and service at the Luana Waikiki. The location is right on Kalakaua Street, which is the main street in Waikiki. Our room was in great shape as were all the public areas of the hotel. We had a room on the 15th floor with fabulous views of the ocean, Ft. Derussy Park below us, and the heart of Waikiki stretching to Diamond Head. The hotel is adjacent to Ft. Derussy Park which has many peaceful walking and jogging paths among its tropical foliage. A 5 minute walk through the park takes you to the beach. The heart of the shopping in Waikiki is within 5-10 minutes' walk also. Our stay included complimentary wine and cheese happy hours (complete with live Hawaiian music and hula dancer) and a free lei-making class.

Parking is $40, one of the cheapest hotel valets we found. You may be able to get cheaper parking at a parking garage but the closest one is closed. Next closest was 10 minute walk and didn't save you much money
They did have one in Feb 2020 but after staying here in Sep 2022 they told me the service was cancelled in 2020. Such a bummer as it was an awesome addition!

Yes. There is a park behind the hotel that you can walk through directly to the beach. It's not overcrowded. Has picnic tables and grassy areas before you get to the beach too for picnics. We preferred this beach to Waikiki. It's just north of Waikiki and all the hotels along the beach. There are places to grab food a short walk away as well. Checkout DeRussy Beach.
There are more places to choose from in the Honolulu area.
