I do not like cities but visited Honolulu with my wife so she could visit the Arizona Memorial in honor of her father's service in WW II. The Waikiki Marina Resort (which is how signage designates the resort) shares space with many other tenants at the Ilikai building. Our room was modern, clean, comfortable, and more spacious than I anticipated. It had a full-sized stove and full-sized refrigerator and seating for two at the bar. I would have loved an ocean view but was assigned to a "city view," which is an example of the lack of value in my "VIP Ownership" with Club Wyndham.

A bank of elevators serves the 25-or-so floors, which typically means a wait of a minute or two when coming and going, which is not bad for a building of this size. Our room was reasonably quiet, although we could still hear street noise from the 21st floor. The window glass is in desperate need of cleaning, although the view is not lovely.

As often happens with Wyndham properties, there was some pressure to attend an "owner update," which we decided to do because we had recently received a call from "corporate" about a "flag" on our account. As we suspected, the only "flag" on our account was that we had not made a purchase at the last owner update. This is typical of Wyndham's deceitful communication, which too often detracts from the vacation experience for which we have dearly paid!

This resort is in a great location within walking distance to so much shopping, restaurants, marina, and Waikiki Beach. You can easily access the public bus or hop on hop off trolley right outside of the resort. That way you can save on a rental car and parking. The resort has two pools, shops, and eateries. The hotel staff were friendly. My only issue is there were times we waited up to 10min for an elevator that wasn't full. Certain times of the day there is a lot of traffic on the elevators. We were on the 4th floor so we could use steps at time. Plus we still had a nice view from our balcony. Housekeeping did not clean our rooms due to covid although we were there one week. They should really make midweek housekeeping optional instead of not offering it at all. They did bring requested items such as trash bags, toiletries, towels as requested in a timely manner. Dave's ice cream shop in the resort was great! Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this resort and would definitely choose it again.

This was our first trip to Honolulu and it couldn’t have worked out better. Although the Illikai is one of the first hotels built along Waikiki Beach it well maintained and operated. Our suite was perfect for our stay and we were close to anything and everything we needed. The beach was close, restaurants were excellent. The Pesca offered a beautiful view and had all day happy hours and some really reasonable lunch specials. Worth the long ride to the top. The staff at the Shell Vacation Club went out of their way to make us feel welcome and took care of anything we asked for. Kirsten and Carolina were two of the friendly names I remember but all the staff just really seemed to enjoy making our vacation special.

Waikiki Marina Resort (at Ilikai) is stuck in the 80s. I appreciate a place that would hold that nostalgia, keep a vintage look perhaps for the sake of Honolulu of yesteryear as opposed to today’s luxury shopping strip but there’s a way to do that and still provide nice accommodations for your guests. This was not it. At least for the Shell Vacations units, it’s poorly maintained. The AC (window unit) is falling apart with fully rusted vents and so loud when it’s running you need closed captions on the TV. Everything is so dated I don’t know how clean it is. The shower is older basic but at least have a shower curtain that isn’t broken. There was remnants of toiletries in the shower wall that’s no longer offered instead you get tiny shampoo bottle that’s enough for a couple days. The ceiling of the bathroom is also something to not look up at. We got a little friend that was an insect like a roach that can fly. The doorway is banged up. The closet is small, which can’t be changed unless remodeled but at least have better doors and a hanger rod that isn’t rusted. The pool is also lacking, it’s like a motel pool. It’s best to skip that all together and quickly walk over to Hilton’s Lagoon and the beach, both easily accessible. The hallways and elevator is warm. The only positive thing I can say is the lobby is nicer than the rest of the place, it’s got a convenient mart, ice cream shop, coffee shop, a good poke place, and some other stores. Location is convenient between Ala Moana mall and International Marketplace and the many shops/restaurants on that side, both walkable.

I have been Worldmark by Wyndham owner for 26 years as well, I am also a Club Wyndham owner. Needless to say I have spent a lot of money over the years. I was not very happy with this resort/hotel location. Having to check out daily towels, set up a date for bathing towels or cleaning, having to personally pick up items because there is no staff, it was not what CW or Wyndham Destinations has provided at every other location I have been to. Parking was extremely inconvenient if you wanted to save $20 night or pay $45 night for valet. For the amount of money I pay in maintenance dues, close to $9000 year, should I really have to pay for parking? The extra expenses and inconveniences just took away from the Hawaii experience. It will not be a location I return to. Even in my update the guy that I spoke with even questioned why I would stay there. The update was short but he was not very friendly. I purchased twice this year to increase my credits and it seems once he knew I wasn't purchasing, I didn't mean anything. I felt more warmth and courtesy from the two ladies at the front desk that checked us in for the update. They were very helpful. I would not recommend this location to anyone. We stayed at the Shell Vacations in Kauai at Beachboy and it was a completely different experience. So, I know not all Shells have to be this way. Below are the ratings. Things are clumped together. So, for Service, the staff at check in were friendly. The inability to accommodate is due to the restrictions they have to work with. So the service being rated low is because of what cannot be provided not on how they treated me.

This is the only time share, in Hawaii post COVID, we’ve stayed at that doesn’t offer a house keeping service during the stay. This was very unacceptable. Offering us a self cleaning kit is offensive considering you expect to have your suite cleaned during a 14 day stay.

The room consistently had a mold or mildew odour which I’d guess is from the carpets. This certainly affected our stay and is a health issue.

The bed sheets had permanent stains on them, despite being “cleaned,” and some of the appliances and dishes were not clean when we arrived. The shower curtain was dirty upon arrival as well.

The sofa had brownish stains and looked as though it hadn’t been cleaned since it was purchased.

We cooked most of our meals in the suite. When I asked for pot holders, I was actually told that Shell does not provide those and that I could use the tea towels. I was stunned with that response.

We are DVC members, but have stayed at a few non DVC resorts in Hawaii and Vegas last year, where house cleaning was provided. I know I’m not the only guest to complain about housekeeping not being provided.

As I said, when we complained, management offered me a self cleaning kit which was unacceptable.

I know for us, we’d never stay at this resort, or any Shell resort, in the future as we were told this is their policy.

The view we had was unbelievable great, location was easy to navigate and the tours we have scheduled were dropped off and picked up within a block of the resort. The resort was clean and the pools were very relaxing. We ate on the top of the roof at Pasco. Food was fabulous.

I stayed there from 10/29-11/1, should have been a week. Three days was all we could muster. When we checked in on 10/29/22 the sheets were dirty and when I called the check in I was told he could send sheets up. I explained I just checked in and I wasn’t about to change the sheets. He then offered to change rooms. This time the bathroom was filthy along with dead bugs in the fixtures. Called down there a second time and was informed this was the last room. A gentleman came up and cleaned the bathroom. This room had a soaking tub which if you are 4’11” it makes it an adventure to get in and out of. Now moving on to the air conditioner unit which was loud and always set on 65 despite what the reading said. So you could either freeze or turn it off and it be stifling in the room. The refrigerator had been emptied, but not cleaned, had an odor. No one bothered to put baking soda or something down the disposal either, that too smelled. This building is just old and clearly the rooms for the time share guests who book through RCI are not kept up with. They should be ashamed of themselves for still using this place, but are not.
Had our fill of filth and stayed at a clean and modern hotel. Avoid the Shell Vacations Club Waikiki Marina Resort at Illikai like the plague or Covid

We had a great time at the Beautiful Ilikai Hotel. Honolulu is a beautiful city and the location of the hotel is on the beach of Waikiki. This hotel is in walking distance to the Ala Moana Mall which is the largest mall on the island that houses high end boutique stores.

I Had a prepaid reservation club wyndham royal gardens which i booked 3 months before when i got there lied and said no reservation then magically found my name and said there overbooked but have moved me to Club Waikiki Marina Resort. When i got there the women said there was no reservation, so she rang some one once done she said royal gardens has my money so i will have to pay again and get a refund. because apparently they are not the same company to do this they would have to set up a new reservation. with a discount which this price was £153 more when i got to the room there was no discount as i looked online and was exactly same rate.

This club Wyndham are total scam artists take your money claim there no reservations and that your reservation was cancelled which it is not send you to another hotel charge you more.

I left a review on on club Wyndham royal gardens the hotel who lied and said i have been moved, which i got a reply from Wyndham to ring them and gave me a phone number. i rang this number got moved to department to department costing me international rate when i finally did get to customer service they was extremely rude unhelpful disinterested. all they said was who did u book through and told me to ring them that was it. so they reply to reviews on here to send you on a wildgoose chase to make them selfs seem like they are doing something.

Terrible company book at your own risk reservations get cancelled to fulfill some one else who will give them more money

My family of 3 (parents + teenager) were comfortable in our Waikiki Marina Resort room (double bed + pull out sofa bed), plus we appreciated the kitchen because we frequently had leftover food. It was probably a 5minute walk to the nearest beach, but the bus stop (including the hop on hop off) was just in front of the hotel

There are laundry facilities and I would suggest bringing your own detergent, as there wasn’t any in the room. The laundry machines are coin operated.
