The Waikiki Monarch Hotel is appreciated by guests for its excellent location, within walking distance to beaches and shopping areas, which enhances their overall stay. While some travelers have noted the hotel has an outdated atmosphere and could benefit from modernizing its decor, the rooms are acknowledged for being clean and comfortable, boasting great views. The amenities, including on-site dining options, are well-received for their convenience. Although a few guests experienced service issues, the staff generally earns praise for their friendliness and helpfulness. The best thing about this property was TAILA. She was so friendly and so happy every time I saw her. The pool was nice, but I’m not sure where you get any towels to use there and the lounge chairs are very cheap. You have to bring your dirty towels downstairs to the front office, which is only open from 9 to 5 and switch for new towels. The room was nothing like any photograph that we had seen previously. Bait and switch! It was very old outdated, and every single piece of furniture was worn down. The walls were dirty and the pillows were so thin can’t even explain. The walls are so thin you can hear TV next-door. A magic eraser would go along way. They charge you five dollars per bag if you need them to hold onto your luggage. It’s a great location, though to everything you need lots of food, the beach shopping in every direction. But you do get what you pay for, but maybe they should change their name to Bob’s bargain discount hotel. They have spring loaded beds and at least we didn’t have any bedbugs

I’m writing this fully aware this is a discount hotel but there are a few things that could have been better. The front desk staff was friendly but the check in process was a little slow. It could be their computer system. Our room was pretty spacious and had a view of the canal. The pool was pretty nice with shaded seating areas.

On to why 3 stars. The room was clean-ish but it was very old. Bathroom was very outdated. The towels were paper thin didn’t dry much. There was ONE bar of soap and 2 tiny bottles of conditioning shampoo. We ended up showering with shampoo as we needed the soap to wash hands. There was no stand for suitcase so we put our suitcase on the table. There were only 2 hangers total and the closet needed a wipe and a coat of paint desperately. There was also no mirror other than one in the bathroom. There’s a little store right downstairs but walk a few more steps to 7-11 if you don’t want to pay $4 for a bottle of water. Location is we good and the food trucks downstairs were cool.

All and all I don’t think I’ll return. I had stayed at other similar price point but better in the area. Or if you’re only staying for 1-2 nights it’d be fine but not for a longer stay in my opinion.

The Monarch is an older hotel with several floors converted to condos or Airbnbs. It has a pool, and two hot tubs. Parking available for a price, but taking an Uber is more cost effective. It is about a 10 minute walk to the beach and a 15 minute walk to the heart of Waikiki. Across the street from the hotel are food trucks, and there are several restaurants within easy walking distance. The lobby floor has two options for breakfast and a bar. Not the most upscale place, but prices reflect that.

I was a solo traveller from the UK. I was travelling for a conference I was invited to, and it was my first time doing long-haul flights and leaving the UK. This hotel was one of the most welcoming and supportive places, and I was very lucky to have my work to book here. They went above and beyond for me and gave me amazing places to visit during my free time, ensuring i could get places, booking taxis for me and being the most welcoming of hosts. The Manager, Nykky, was a truly wonderful and caring person; supporting her guests and staff, made me feel so welcome and helped me when I needed to have work complete a form for them; she was so supportive, helped me throughout and made me feel so relaxed. Troy welcomed me at 11 pm at night due to delays with my planes, and even though it was late, he welcomed me with a massive smile, helped me check-in, and, even when my phone would not load my reservation email, did everything he could to help and was truly welcoming. Taila booked me a very early taxi for the airport, and I had nothing to worry about; even though it was early, I knew that she had a good relationship with the taxi team and with the hotel. These 3 were amazing. I honestly had the best of times; my room (1912) was huge, with an amazing view of the canal and the mountains, and it felt so much like walking into a friend's place than a hotel by the way the staff made me feel. I am saving up to return as a tourist this time and not for business. And I will be staying there again (I would love the same room, the room was ace). The Shops and amenities around them were so nice and really worked well together, everything all nearby. Thank you for making me feel so relaxed when coming to the US for the first time, for the first time leaving the UK and for supporting me and making me relax, as a neuro-divergent person, it can be hard for me to settle into a new place, but with the staff, it was so easy to relax. I can not say thank you enough!!!! Please still all be there for when I return, I want to be back asap. Thank you with all my heart!!

Photos are really deceiving. Nothing like the pictures. It looks like an old condo tower. I wasn't even sure if I was dropped off at right place. While the sheets appear clear, there is dust everywhere and dirt and garbage on washroom floor. Think motel 6 vibes. There are signs to check to ensure batteries and remote hdmi cable and roku box are present in case the previous guest stole them, you will be charged $100. There is a $17 resort fee but there are no real amenties. This is good in a pinch. 15 min walk from luxury row. Would not recommend or stay again.

On April 1, 2023, we made a reservation at the: Hawaiian Monarch Upgraded Modern Studio +61 430 176 890 for 4 nights, 2 adults On April 1, we Paid US$782.81 On April 3, we cancelled the reservation due to a family situation. Total cancellation cost: US$ 536.54 We understand they have a no refund policy and have communicated to them that we would just like a credit to use in the future and they do not reply. We would just like get a credit instead of them taking $536.54 from us.

needed a place to crash for one night and this was perfect. the uber from the airport was the most affordable to this hotel vs the others. got in one of their two hot tubs as soon as i arrived. the room was comfortable and had a great view.
I woke up early because I'm still on East Coast time and it was in the perfect location to walk through parks on the beach and through the shops.
Nykky at the front desk was especially charming, sharp and helpful throughout my stay 💕💕

We came from Big Island to see Auana (the cirque de soleil show) and hang out in Waikiki for a couple, of days. Nykky greeted us warmly and got us early check in which was totally unexpected. The room was clean, cool and very comfortable with an incredible view of Waikiki. The pool is lovely and large, plus there are hottubs and barbeques you can use. I would like to point out that staying as a hotel guest is the way to go and is most reasonably priced . The bad reviews are all from the air bnb guests. I feel sorry for them because our experience was amazing and Nykky was absolutely fabulous to us. I highly recommend this hotel. We'll be back for sure. Mahalo nui loa.

We had 4 nights at the Waikiki Monarch and found it to be a strange experience. We booked it through Booking.com and stayed in apartment 2703A.

On the positive side, our apartment had an amazing view of Waikiki, right out to the ocean, as well as along the canal – very inspiring! The location also was very good, situated on the western end of Wikiki. It was only a 10min walk to the beach and about 10min over to Ala Moana Mall and beach park. There was a good internet-enabled TV with about every channel and streaming service you could want – really a nice setup.

On the negative side, the apartment was not very well cleaned upon our arrival, especially the floor. A couple of the dining chairs and the couch were covered in stains and were downright disgusting. The apartment was lacking a few basics, such as bedside cabinets and dressers/drawers for storing clothes. I had to lay out all my clothes on the floor along the hallway wall. We also felt the lighting was quite dim in the evenings. The kitchen was small and outfitted with only the basics. The kitchen faucet was loose and about ready to fall off – a little basic maintenance would’ve been nice.

Another thing that was odd was that there was no reception or other onsite staff which could be called on if required. We were told to collect our key from a little lock box. We arrived at around 1pm, and since we weren’t allowed to check in until the very late hour of 4pm, we asked if we could store our bags and were told we actually had to pay for bag storage ($5/bag) for the 3 hours. It’s the first time we’ve ever had the experience of having to pay for bag storage at the hotel while waiting for check-in! Not impressed!

In any case, we won’t be staying here anytime soon. Not recommended – there are so many far better places to stay in Waikiki. Don’t make the mistake we did.

This hotel has been the best hotel I’ve stayed at in Waikiki. The location and views are great and it has everything you need and more! The rooms are very nice and clean, the pool and hot tub is nice and relaxing, the gym was equipped and always clean, the coffee shop and restaurants are good and very convenient for a close bite to eat. I even rented a car downstairs in the lobby for 2 weeks that was very convenient and not to mention the food trucks right across the street for some delicious Hawaiin food. The front desk receptionist Nykky was very sweet, helpful and always accommodated us with anything we needed during our entire 2 week stay. I totally recommend Waikiki Monarch Hotel!

We had a mini fridge and microwave-but I’m unsure if all rooms have this. The beach is not close, but it is about a mile to Fort DeRussy beach park.

There are two ways on this place The upper level is vacational rentals flats, the lower is an hotel. exactly the same rooms. By random, I use both 2 days in one part and 3 days in the other parts because it is advertised on different names. The same price. The advantage of the hotel is you have a receptionist, that means someone to speak with, the rentals only electronic code and if necessary someone by phone. It was very convenient for me, close to the Convention Center where I attended a conference and close to Waikiki beach but probably not the most exciting stay in Hawai Bertrand
