Detailed Reviews
We just cannot say enough regarding the over-the top hospitality offered by Carlos, Anna and their entire staff! You will want for nothing...just ask, and it will be provided in minutes. Carlos and Anna are extremely generous with their time, their resources and their knowledge of the surrounding area(s). We stayed in a Junior suite. Very clean, comfortable, awesome views of the surrounding countryside and reasonably priced. Breakfast and dinner daily were delicious with a readily available staff attending to all of our needs. Thank you Carlos and Anna for our memorable experience! We look forward to staying with you again on our next visit to Panama! Kathleen & Jim Mullennix, Evergreen, Colorado

Los Quetzales Ecolodge was a pleasure to visit. It was the perfect hub for four days for our birding trip in the Chiriqui area because there were so many birdy places to visit within a short driving distance. The grounds are beautiful at the lodge and there are many birds including hummingbirds at their feeders. Many of the vegetables and lettuce are grown right there beside the lodge.
Besides the fresh fruits and vegetables in the salad bar each day, the meat and pasta choices for lunch and dinner were varied and all that I tried were very good and well cooked. Breakfast buffet had someting for everyone also from eggs, local fried breads, regular bread, oatmeal, meat, etc as well as fruit bar. The owner, cooks and wait staff were all attentive/helpful and the service was excellent.
The rooms were clean and room service (daily cleaning) was by request. There were plenty of covers for the beds and we were never cold at night when the temps were lower. There were also several pillows on the bed to choose from. That is always a good thing. The doors included both deadbolt and door handle locks with a key chain that you could not mispalce! There is also a safe available if you need to use it.
Besides being a perfect spot for our birding tour, it would also be a great place for a family visit or just a couple to get a way for the week. The spa has a good reputation, but we were not there long enough to take advantage of that service. There are a number of places to visit in town if you want to explore and restaurants if you want to try them out.

I felt very much at home in this ecolodge. Especially the veranda was a great place to watch birds.
The village had a lot of gardens with thousands of flowers and very nice people.
The best part was the 8 hour trail through the rain forest - almost mythical -
Finally I spotted 12 Quetzal birds with the help of my guide Alexander who could not have been better.

Stunning scenery which can be viewed at length in the expansive garden complete with several outdoor activities for kids. Uniformly attentive and kind staff, yummy restaurant, wood-burning stoves in rooms and restaurant, beautiful wood and tile work and charming architectural details, game/lounge room with ping pong...Los Quetzales has something for everyone! Clearly they have gone to great lengths and taken great care to ensure their guests' comfort and fun. They also built cabinas in the jungle that are also stunning and unique; if we returned with another family I would seriously consider that option. Highly recommend a trip to Chiriqui and a stay at Los Quetzales - delightful and magical!

We stayed at Los Quetzales Ecolodge for four nights and had a really wonderful time. We were pretty much the only guests at the time because of Covid and the rainy season. Nevertheless, Carlos, Anna and the rest of the staff gave us first class treatment. The breakfasts were tasty and filling and we had some nice dinners in the hotel restaurant as well . We took an amazing jungle hike with Carlos, and also enjoyed a relaxing steam sauna and hot tub.
The location is super convenient and the grounds are amazing - so green and verdant! We stayed in one of the main lodges. The room was comfortable, the shower hot and wifi strong. We also had a chance to visit the cabins up on the mountain. They are incredible and we will stay in one on our return The town is small with just a few places to eat or shop, but the surrounding countryside is spectacular!
Overall a great experience. Our thanks to Anna, Carlos and the staff for making our trip such a wonderful memory.

Seeing a Quetzal has long been on my bucket list. I tried twice in Costa Rica & once in Guatemala, but within 30 min. in Panama's Volcan Baru National Park we had seen 2 or 3 female Quetzales & 1 male Quetzal! There's no guarantee, but we struck Quetzal gold with a guide from Los Quetzales Ecolodge in Cerro Punta. The hotel also had great food, friendly staff, & a cozy lounge for meeting other travelers.

+1
We spent two nights in Cerro Punta at the Los Quetzales Lodge. We actually stayed in the lodge's Cabana 2 in Amistad Park, a 25 min drive from the lodge itself. What an adventure! A lovely rustic wood cabin with wood stove, no electricity, but hot water. Comfy bed, decent enough shower. Great patio with fabulous vistas for bird watching. Nestled in the cloud forest. A short walk to Cabana 3 - but totally private. We had lodge staff drive us up there (unbelievable rocky road up), once we discovered that something more than our baby
4 x 4 would be required (MUCH higher clearance). A tank would be good. Took us 40 min to walk from cabin to lodge, but a beautiful walk, small village, lovely rolling hills with coffee and vegetable farms. Ate at lodge restaurant first eve and had lodge deliver dinner to us the second. Food is simple but very good. Charming and charismatic cabin host/guide (Abel). No English, but very articulate in Spanish and body language. Takes a while to figure out the logistics of the hotel/cabanas, because desk staff, while pleasant enough, isn't forthcoming about what's available there or in the area. Tons of great hikes and drives up there once you find out where and how.

We were the only guests staying there. The hotel staff couldn't have been less interested that we were there and saw us as a massive incovience. Practically had to beg them for breakfast and even then had to nudge them for everything.
The evening chef was great and cooked some amazing food.
Hotel felt dreary....

After reading numerous TA reviews, I reserved a junior suite (#17), and my wife and I hiked the Quetzal Trail from Boquete to Cerro Punta (without rain!). We arrived at the Lodge about 1:00 p.m., checked in, and were told we could still order lunches, which we greatly enjoyed. We were very favorably impressed with suite 17 (much more comfortable and less drafty than our previous experiences in Cabins 8 and 9). Our only negative was a lack of hot running water, but this was quickly and cheerfully corrected as soon as we mentioned it to the desk. Suite 17 has its own freestanding fireplace with kindling already in it (great for those chilly, damp evenings) but we didn't even need it. Our king-size bed was extremely comfortable with a comforter and two blankets, more than enough to keep us comfortable at temperatures considerably lower than what we experienced. Every meal we ate at the lodge was excellent and cheerfully and professionally served. In the morning the staff called a local pickup truck taxi to take us back to the trailhead for the return hike to Boquete. Our driver didn't want to take us as far as we had been told he would, but that was not the responsibility of the lodge. The next time we hike over, we will try to stay in the same suite, maybe for two nights so we can take advantage of some of the day hikes the lodge offers. : )

Cool air in Panama? Los Quetzales stokes the wood fireplaces in both lounge and restaurant -- scrumptious food from fish to filet mignon, pizza to home grown organic salad bar, home made bread, eggs fresh from farm. Take a sauna in the neat rustic spa. The charm of owner Carlos and his staff keep it warm, too. Raincoats, fleece jackets and boots are provided for morning rides into the cloud jungle where able guides Abel and Rolando call their "pet" Quetzels. These elusive enchanting birds were seen and heard daily; their eerie call will haunt us forever. Hummingbirds and warblers flock to feeders. For birders this is a destination. For bikers (make sure you pick your preferred bike from inside or hanging) and trekkers (visit Quetzales' cabins and the abandoned hotel off the trail to the waterfalls). No bugs or snakes. Memorable mountain vistas and sunsets from wraparound decks. Now that we have left the mountains for the blue waters of the Caribbean, we miss those cozy nights at Los Quetzales. Mil gracias, Carlos!

Thank you for your feedback Jackson. We truly value our customer's opinions and are dismayed you have been unable to reach us. Our reception desk is open for calls from 7 am to 8 pm, and power outages sometimes cut the phone system. We are reviewing your case to find out how we missed your communications. We extend our apologies and hope you give us a change to correct this error. -The Los Quetzales Staff
There are buses, but I would do the quick route. If you are going to Los Quetzals and have no car, best is to phone them (I'd let them know your arrival time ahead of time so they can plan it a bit). They can come shuttle you to Guadalupe.
We rented a car. It was very inexpensive and easy at the David airport. There aren't that many roads and the roads are very good. The road to Bouquet is straight north from David. To get to Los Quetzals at Guadalupe, go north out of the airport and left on Panama 1 (Interamerican) about 45k or so our to La Concepcion and turn right on the road to Volcan. In the middle of Volcan there is a major intersection well-marked where you turn right on the road to Guadalupe. Where that ends in a T intersection in Guadalupe, Loz Quetzales is just to the right.
You are entitled to one free Transport per day from the lodge. More than that will cost you I believe. Depending on which cabin you stay in, walking down from cabin to lodge will take 20 -40 mins. Interesting walk though. We walked down from cabin 2 late one afternoon, had early dinner, and had lodge take us back up. And of course, when you arrive they will drive you to your cabin, and pick you up at checkout.
