The Hotel Restaurant Zeezicht is situated at the old inland area in Harlingen just across from the Ferry point where the boats to Vlieland and Terschelling depart. The hotel has the inland and the sea at one side and on the other side, it is situated beside the historical Elfsteden (11 cities) town of Harlingen. Harlingen is an old city of commerce that did very well during the golden age. This is noticeable by the number of beautiful old homes to be found within the city. Since June 2009, the Wadden Sea became an UNESCO World Heritage Site and is equated with famous nature reserves such as Yellowstone Park in the United States and Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. On the roof of the Hotel Restaurant Zeezicht are solar panels thus all the electricity used in our business comes from a natural source so we try to contribute to the environment as much as possible. Hotel Zeezicht was opened in 1905 and served as a guesthouse for the many ships’ crews that passed through Harlingen Haven. In 1983 the Hotel Zeezicht and Restaurant expanded by joining with the adjacent monumental building “The Sea Castle” of Harlingen. The “Sea Castle” has a long history in Harlingen and played an important role in the development of the city. During the golden age a notable society club called “Seeburgh” was established at “The Sea Castle”. “The Sea Castle” was only accessible to dignitaries and was inspected by a strict high commission. The society discussed important decisions concerning Harlingen. Nowadays, everyone is welcome at “Hotel Restaurant Zeezicht.”

We stayed here in the second half of January 2020. The staff was friendly, helpful and they were attentive to customers in the reading area. Our room was somewhat small, but that is very normal in older European hotels, and not an issue for us at all. We slept really well. :-) We spent some time at the bar with our parents before going out for dinner. Afterwards the two of us sat in the reading room, browsed the bookshelves and had a nice relaxing time. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel as we took an early ferry. From previous experience we know the breakfast is good though. The atmosphere near the bar was quite pleasant. Note: there is no lift to the upstairs, so if using stairs is an issue, please let them know when booking.

Arrived in this hotel end of the day. Good and friendly people. Room was very nice with a great view on the harbor. A bit hot without airco. Breakfast was normal and good. Parking a very small but valid parking available.

Stayed here once before. Couldn' t complain. This time however. Shouting from the bar, loud music, noises from other guests. Did not sleep a wink. Worst room in the house for single guest? Will book somewhere else next time. Staff very Nice though.

Still the best sole around, worth the expense. Excellent service and free parking. Wine-list is not adequate and has been reduced over the years to a miserable list. I regret this for the zeezicht where you could order a decent Chablis in older days.

This hotel was the most expensive on our trip trough the Netherlands and does not match the quality and especially the level of customer service of other hotels we stayed in (Hilton Garden Inn Leiden, Hilton Rotterdam and Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam). Some thhing we did not like: Upon arrival they tried to sell us the breakfast the next morning immediately. They reacted a bit unfriendly when we said we wanted to decide spontaneously the next morning. The room we booked - a comfort room for EUR 129 without breakfast - did not appeal to us and looked different than on the pictures. Also there was no minibar in the room When we went to the reception to complain we were told "yes sometimes the minibar (fridges) break down and then there is no in the room. There could offer us another room which was 10 Euro more expensive and it looked a bit better and did have a fridge. So we took that one although we felt we should have received the "upgrade" for free Although we booked a comfort room with minibar we had to pay 10 Euro more for the room with the minibar. When getting settled in the room, the soap container was empty but we didn't want to complain about it and used our own shower get to wash our hands. Also in the bathroom there were no ameninties, like shampoo or anything else. So in the end we were not satisfied with our stay and left the next morning to our hotel in Amsterdam. We would not recommend this hotel and not stay here again.
