Together with the peaceful and picturesque surroundings, as well as the sinfully tasty food, the owners' passion and friendliness made this lodge feel like home to me. Had an unforgettable two-night stay here.

The lodge is a modern luxury home with four bedrooms with the hosts living in a separate building set in front of a creek/pond filled with resident fish. The welcome is top notch and the breakfast is hearty. The guests have use of a pond-side deck, kitchen and lounge. Whilst it is not cheap, the experience and surroundings are visually...

From the moment we arrived, Jo and Peter were perfect hosts. Free baked goods and wine were available and the breakfasts were delicious. Jo had great suggestions as to the best places to eat as well as the best places to hike. We arrived in the rain, but the next day was overcast which allowed for a bracing hike over...

We arrived to be warmly greeted by our hosts with a tour of the luxury home, drinks food all at our disposal. Our bedroom opened onto the decking by the lake with table and chairs, whilst the lounge opened onto a larger deck right by the lake with loungers to sit/lay on. The bathroom was so luxurious with lovely lotions...

The surroundings were beautiful with the adjacent lake and nearby salmon stream. A great base camp for a day trip to Mt Cook. A great choice of wines and spirits were at hand and i enjoyed an evening port and fruit cake.

A real treat while traveling to Mt. Cook. Hosts Peter and Jo have set the bar quite high and made their property into an exquisite retreat only 45 minute drive (and what a beautiful drive) to Mt. Cook. Our room was exceptionally well appointed, luxurious, spotlessly clean and with a relaxing view of their duck pond. Well worth the price....

Every now and then I read a review on TripAdvisor from somebody who never stayed at a property (or never ate at a restaurant), but still submits a negative review because he/she feels he was mistreated in the reservation process or at the door. Our experience was just the opposite. Although we were ultimately unable to stay at the Matuka...
