This backpackers/hostel is the 2nd most expensive one we have stayed in yet it was completely the least value for money! The most expensive place we stayed in we had our own room yet here we were put in separate 7 bed rooms and it was only slightly cheaper! It was also terrible in comparison to much cheaper hostels for...

The room was large enough for a quick stay and super big bathroom. The management were quite happy to slip in a fold up bed for my 8 year old, despite it being only bookable for a couple (my mistake). Right in town and short walk to lake. Very quiet at night.

Had a one week stay in this hostel and although it's not the largest or the busiest, it was most definitely my favourite. Upon arrival I was a little disappointed with the size of the shower but shortly afterwards I realised there were several other, bigger showers. The kitchen is well equipped, however, it could use more markers, paper, tape...

Matterhorn South is one of those places you arrive at expecting to stay one night and end up staying a week. Part of that is due to the charm of lovely, lakeside Wanaka, and part is due to the open garden, ski lodge feel and the friendly people who seem to be attracted to this place. Would definitely recommend staying...

Worst customer service I've experienced in New Zealand. The woman at the counter refused to give my partner and I our BBH discounts (which is completely against the BBH contract) because, and I quote, "She could make more money if she sold it without" I was appalled at her response, it was a money grubbing, selfish move on her part....

Upon arriving the first thing you see is an abundance of weeds everywhere. On checking in we are greeted by Karen who has a fantastic character and is full of advice about the area and things of interest. She advises us that she allows backpackers on limited finances to do small jobs in exchange for a bed for the night....

Relaxed stay, our twin room was like a log cabin so it was very cozy. Large kitchen and communal area, plenty of people in and out skiing etc. Short walk into the town/lakeside. Free parking. Would stay here again.

Stayed here for a weekend, The hostel is old and could use a makeover. The rooms are very noisy and the kitchen is small and unconvenient. The showers and bathrooms were clean and with good waterpressure. No free Wifi

Had the private double room in backpackers area. Walls paper thin and could hear everyone's conversations next door and in the hall. Could hear most of the noise from lots of drinking the the lounge area. Appeared to have no noise curfew time, unlike many other backpackers I've stayed in. Still really noisy at 2 am. So barely slept at...
