Sheryl and Chris are attentive hosts who will go the extra mile to make you feel comfortable and content. Sheryl is an amazing cook who blew me away with her range of delicious vegan meal options. Chris is the epitome of a professional fishing guide who will put you on fish no matter how tough the fishing conditions. I had a great time and would go back in a heartbeat.

To be honest, I didn't review Kenanow Lodge after my first visit because I thought the high level of service and fishing could have been an anomaly. I was wrong. Thus year I went back with my dad, brother and friend and Sheryl and Chris exceeded even the highest expectations I had built up for my family. I was afraid after hyping up my first trip, that the second would not live up. It exceeded all of our expectations. The hot breakfast, shore lunch and 4 course dinner was absolutely amazing each day. We had to come back to warm up one day as it was rainy and cold, and Sheryl "whipped up" hot soup and sandwiches with coffee and hot chocolate while our clothes dried. Chris went above and beyond and braved the cold with us, while helping us land monster fish without his net, as we changed boats for more comfort. Absolutely amazing family, fishing is phenomenal and accommodations are very comfortable. All the amenities of home, including the friendly banter. Thanks to Sheryl, Chris and Ken for an amazing trip. See you next year! Sean from Southern Ontario

Kenanow lodge is remote and takes some effort to get to but once there I can't imagine a better fishing experience. My son and I were a few days early, just after ice out, and found the fishing a little slow but due to Chris' extra efforts we still caught some really nice trout and all of the Northetn Pike we wanted. A few Walleye rounded out our succesful trip. We were on the all inclusive plan and the food was outstanding! Chris and Cheryl went all out to not only take care of us but they made us feel like family. Hope to get back soon! Thanks guys for a great trip! Craig and Brent

Excellent fishing trip with my wife, son, daughter in law and friends. All inclusive with excellent food , very comfortable accommodations, excellent guides and boats included. Spent the past two days fishing. Caught our walleye limit easily. 5 northern pike 40 + inches, 4 of them master anglers! 24+ inch walleye. We lost track of how much fish we caught! Excellent shore lunches. Many thanks to Sheryl for the great home cooked breakfast and suppers and desserts. Snacks and water included. Chris and Johnny were great guides, on fish all the time and great fun to be around with. Most friendly and hospitable people you could be with. Planning for a return visit soon.

My brother is good friends with the owners, Sheryl and Chris Matheson and he invited us to tag along with him and his 5 year old daughter on his annual visit to the lodge. My husband and I travelled all the way from Okotoks, Alberta to experience northern fishing for the first time. We’ve always fished in the lakes and rivers in Alberta in hopes to catch a nice rainbow trout, but we wanted to experience the rush of getting a big “Laker” or that massive Northern Pike. Well, our trip did not disappoint! First, we drove from Alberta to Winnipeg, Manitoba to pick up my brother and his daughter and then off we went for the 10 hour drive north to Kississing Lake. The drive was scenic, relatively straight and easy to do. If you don’t want to drive that long, you can always fly to Flin Flon from Winnipeg and the lodge will pick you up from the airport which is an hour and a half away. Another option is to fly to Flin Flon then hop on a boat plane and fly right to the lodge. Once we arrived at the lodge, we found the place very homey, warm and inviting. We stayed at the lodge in a clean and comfortable room adjacent to the main part of the house. Next to our room was a communal shower / toilet room which was very clean. The main part of the house has a large sitting area, dining room and kitchen. The host, Sheryl Matheson cooked all the meals and made sure you had everything you needed to make your stay enjoyable. The best part of the house was the large screened in verandah facing the gorgeous lake. You could sit there for hours enjoying the scenery, hearing the loons call or just read a good book. All the meals are homemade and were fabulous!!! We can’t say enough about how wonderful everything was and how great our hosts were. Chris Matheson our fishing guide was fantastic. He knows that lake like the back of his hand. His boat was super fast and got you to where the fish were in minutes. His boat was comfortable and easy to fish from (a lot better than our canoe that we use in Alberta). Chris knows all the secret fishing holes and he taught us a lot about fishing. Each day we caught big Northern Pikes and we got our limit on both Pike and Walleye. Since we were fishing in late August, the big Lake Trouts were down deep and hard to catch but we did get a few big ones that we couldn’t keep. The lodge is fantastic and we highly recommend you visit. The hosts are fabulous and provide 5 star service.

We chose the all inclusive 3 day fishing package with the " hotel " accommodations. The hotel is located about 10 minutes from the lodge. Its located in a very scenic lake location and offers a lot of privacy. This is not the lake you'll be fishing from. The rooms at the Hotel are located upstairs and are clean , spacious and very comfortable. Each room had their own A/C unit , satellite TV, coffee machine , mini fridge and an en suite, full bathroom. There is free wifi and the response time was very good on the iPads.. The home cooked meals, prepared by Sheryl and Ashley, were excellent and plentiful. No skimping on the quantity ( or quality! ). They also customized the meals to accommodate dietary restrictions for one of our colleagues. There was no charge for non alcoholic beverages. Service was very efficient and attentive . Theres a large satellite TV , along with a pool table, in the leisure room. Very spacious and comfortable to " chill " after a great day of fishing. The fishing guides, Chris and Jim were very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. This resulted in a couple of days where 4 out 6 fishermen caught 50 ++ fish each. 80% of the Northern Pikes caught were in the 29 to 39 inches with 2 in the 40 inches. Numerous Walleyes were caught and released. The guides also provided an onshore fish fry shore lunches which was excellent. Theres nothing like fresh Walleye/ northern Pike for lunch !! There are strict slot limits and catch limits. For the keepers, we max'd out in Walleye and Northerns. We had problems catching lake trout due to the weather turning against us. I was informed by the guides, that the BEST time to fish for trout is in June and September. The bass boats run at 225 HP. More time fishing , less time spent traveling between fishing sites. The bass boats are very spacious and can easily accommodate 3 fisheman and 1 guide. The mosquitoes at the hotel were present but not in large quantities. The mosquitoes at the dock and in that vicinity were plentiful and vicious. On the waters, no bugs were present. Please note that this is a family operated lodge. It shows in the pride and care that they take in the service that they provide. An excellent fishing experience was had by our group. Once you fished up at Kenanow Lodge, you'll be forever spoiled . Side Note- Sheryl and Ashley offer informal mini tours of the hamlet, the old mine site and to a nearby inland lake. Do take advantage of the mini tours. Its a very interesting area and the exercise will do you good after an awesome dinner. If you're a photographer, heres your chance to photograph the Boreal forest in the Canadian shield.
