Hotel-Bar-Brasserie l'Etoile is very typical and idiosynchratic, a mix of "'Allo'Allo" and Fawlty Towers but could also be a scene from a Chabrol black and white film about mysterious goings on in a small French town....
The hotel is central in Nuits St Georges, no dedicated parking but pay and display opposite - it is shoppers' parking so limited to 2hrs but no charge after 6pm so after 4pm 2Euros will get you through til 9am next day. The bar and restaurant on the ground floor is a big bonus if you don't want to roam the rainy streets in December looking for something other than a pizza takeaway. The food was good, too much for me to eat, and very local (snails, pressed ham terrine with parsley, beef bourguignon, quiche with strong cheese & ham). Splendid choice of local wine for every pocket. Guest artisan beers every month, some VERY strong indeed. Breakfast was good. Our room was up in the eaves and barely decorated with woodchip and ill-matched wallpaper. It...
