High-speed ferry from/to Bergen. Very accommodating hosts; they can/will pick you up at the ferry dock to drive baggage back to the hotel. Recommend hiking the alpine trails (way) up above the town. Can walk anywhere around town. Enjoyed dinners at The Cider House and insane buffet at Kviknes hotel.

The hotel owners were very friendly and gave personal service to each guest. I particularly appreciated their help when the Express Boat we were planning on taking to leave Balestrand was full and left us stranded. The owners went into swift action to find us an alternate way back to Oslo, so we would not miss our flight the next...

We drive our rental car and took the ferry to Balestand. Easy drive up the road to the hotel, great location just near the end of town, free parking, easy short walk to the restaurants and sites. We booked a Fiord view upper floor room, great room, with a view of the water and a balcony. Great to site out...

Wonderful stay for our honeymoon! The hotel really does have old world charm in abundance. Right on the fjord which is great for a refreshing (if very cold) dip. The rooms are well equipped and in a classic style - not for you if you're wanting ultra modern. The food was varied and there was lots of it. We had...

A 5-minute walk from the ferry dock. The staff picks up your bags on arrival so that you don't have to pull your luggage up the hill.  Look for the green Volvo wagon.  Free WiFi.  Friendly, very helpful staff. Small, basic, yet comfortable rooms. Sitting room with books, a few games, and complimentary afternoon tea. Free basic breakfast (cereal, fruit...

Unique,old-style hotel, with lots of character. Large spacious public areas including an expansive deck. Our room was large with sitting area and bedroom; spacious bathroom; large deck with two doors out to the deck. Wonderful fresh air for sleeping because of the two doors to the deck. Squeaky floors added to the charm. The beds were too soft to the...

We stayed in the Balestrand Hotel at the beginning of July. We paid a little extra for a fjord-side room, and were so pleased we did. The view from the room (or indeed the balcony) was truly spectacular. The staff (mainly mother and daughters) were friendly and very helpful, the breakfasts were good and the sitting area was a lovely...

If you want the fjords nearby, but also like a quiet peaceful location, Balestrand is ideal as is the hotel of the same name. If coming by ferry, the hotel staff will transport your luggage while you stroll about five minutes to the hotel. Unna-Marie the proprietor was always helpful and gave us great tips for hiking and biking. We...

We loved our entire 3 night stay. The service is absolutely wonderful! At check-in, Unni-Maria greeted us warmly and spent time helping us to plan our activities. We are avid hikers so she recommended the Waterfall Hike and the Raudmelen Hike – both excellent. And she loaned us trekking poles which were extremely helpful since Raudmelen is rather steep. The...

I really appreciated the owners picking up our bags upon arriving from the ferry, allowing a nice stroll from the harbour into town. I love the hotel is family run and all the staff were warm and accommodating, great for tips on walks and things to do. Our room was meticulously clean and cozy comfy, plus had a small patio...
