The Bildeston Crown is a 15th century, former coaching inn set in the Suffolk village of Bildeston, one of the historic “wool towns” and just six miles from Lavenham. Owned and managed by Nedging Hall Estate, The Bildeston Crown sits proudly on the high street. An intriguing Suffolk pub with rooms. It has oodles of charm. Inside you’ll find characterful and cosy dog-friendly bars, a light-filled restaurant and indulgent bedrooms. Each of our en-suite rooms have been classically designed with unique features, and beds so comfy you won’t want to leave… With a focus on locally sourced and seasonal produce, the restaurant serves delicious dishes packed full of flavour. The garden team at Nedging Hall and our talented chefs work hand in hand to create an incredible dining experience. The Bildeston Crown is in the heart of the Suffolk countryside and the perfect base to explore local market towns, Lavenham, Long Melford, Sudbury and Bury St Edmunds, as well as Constable Country.

Wanting a celebratory meal out, myself and business partner decided to visit The Crown for our 6th anniversary of opening our salon.
We booked a table and arrived a few minutes late. No drama, just smiles and a warm greeting. We were seated in the most gorgeous bar, complete with a roaring log fire, with our drinks and offered a menu to decide what we would like. The choice covered a good range - without being over complicated - and each dish is described in detail.
Once we’d made choices we were shown through to the exquisite dinning room. The food began to arrive within 5 minutes via a courteous and very pleasant waiter.
To say it was a meal to relish is an understatement: the food is very much a step to the side of the mundane, with quirky little twists on good old favourites and creative dishes galore. Very little chat was exchanged between us as we were both completely focused on enjoying the food! Each dish was replaced with the next without fuss, and with the right amount of time between each. Chef came through once, enquired of all diners as to how their meals were and disappeared again. There was no hovering or overseeing, just calm and polite service, exquisite food and a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Whether you just want to drop in for lunch, fancy a good meal out, or are celebrating, I cannot speak highly enough of every aspect of The Crown in Bildeston.
Thank you Chef and staff. I will be seeing you all again very soon!

Having called in for a casual lunch - reviewed Feb 1st - we decided to make this our wedding anniversary venue this yearand were so glad we did. Covid protocols were strictly observed and we even though the restaurand looked better in its more austere shape. The young lady who waited our table was excellent as was our total experience. Starters werean ideal prelude and our mains of lamb canon and chicken respectively were perfectly portioned to leave us both replete and able to conremplate a desert, which is not always the case at other restaurants. The resulting Sicilian Lemon tart was a perfect finish. The final bill, including the bottle of very good wine was very reasonable for this quality.
Memo to Chris; We apppreciate how frustrating the past five months and now the new restrictions must be, and that is easy to make our comments, but idiots like
GBH with his one self promoting review are not worth dignifying with a reply when you have so many positive reviews from so many experienced and well travelled reviewers. Dont give them the pleasure of a response. Best wishes and we will visit again soon.

We called in hre on our way home from a late morning meeting. The bar area was an oasis of calm dspite a family party and our order was quickly taken. We had chosen two retro starters at £5 each and we in fact swapped as my wifes Thai skewers were a bit more spicy than she had anticipated while my breaded camembert was perfect. Our mains of halibit with thick cut chips were again perfect in terms of both quamtity and quality. We live about 15 miles from Bildeston but will certainly make the effort to visit again.

What a gem we stumbled across in the Suffolk countryside.

We only intended to have a drink and light bite but reading the menu and seeing some of the meals going to other tables we decided to have lunch.

We started with the duck gyoza and scampi which were delicious, light and crispy with no sign of grease. I had the bass, which was beautifully cooked, served with polenta and artichoke. Hubby had the rabbit and duck liver wellington which he said was excellent. My only complaint is that neither of us had room for a pudding, even to share one.

Friendly staff and nice ambience.

We stayed at the Crown on a Saturday, at the start of our week’s holiday in Suffolk. Our room was spacious and very comfortable. We had an evening meal in the restaurant and the quality of the food was excellent. You can choose from a menu of classics or go for the Select Menu of creative dishes which you can have as either a starter or a main meal. The range on offer was excellent. Plus, if like me you can’t always fit in a whole dessert, there is the option of having a mini dessert which did the trick. We felt safe and the staff were very attentive but not intrusive. This was a super start to our holiday and I would fully recommend a stay and an evening meal at the Crown. We will be back for sure.

I have been a couple of times to the bildeston crown and every time I get excited and amazed by the menu . There are classics such as burgers , fish and chips and then you go to the other end of fine dinning .
The restaurant is relax with friendly staff . Hayley heads them up with a warm welcome. The staff are friendly , eager to make sure you have everything you need and talk through the dishes if your not sure .
The food , what can I say is amazing . Chris (head chef ) menus are interesting and written to take you on a journey . A simple dish such as pot roasted chicken is executed in a modern and contemporary way . A dessert of blackberry and apple soufflé , sure has the wow factor .
You will not be disappointed if you visits and would recommend this place for any occasion .

Having seen The Crown on the list of establishments taking part in the government's eat in to help out deal, we called in for a lunchtime snack, only to be told that they had opted out of the deal. No sandwiches on offer so we just opted for a drink and we’re charged £7.35 for two ginger beer with lemonades. Sorry, not returning or recommending

Went for lunch with few friends first time since lockdown. Absolutely delicious food and service spot on. Really strict with Covid guidelines which made us really safe and comfortable. Two of my friends have serious allergies but chef and staff made it so easy and enjoyable for them. Nothing was too much trouble. Definitely will be back!

We attended a wedding reception held at the Bildeston Crown and were very impressed.
The venue was hired out entirely and was perfect for a smaller wedding. Such a lovely hotel/restaurant.
The staff were all amazing and so hard working. We were all very well looked after.
We were blown away by the quality of food for a mass catered venue. The hors d’ouvres were just delightful and our three course meal was beautifully cooked.
We will most definitely be returning for an evening meal and a chance to sample the full menu on offer, because to experience that level of quality for a mass catered event, has left us eager to return.

Disappointed! Went in for a couple of drinks and after a while asked to look at the menu. We did say we wouldn't be eating and just wanted to look for future reference, but we were both tempted by the menu and wanted to order. Told only nibbles were available.. this being just gone 8pm and on asking what time the kitchen closed was told it was 8.30pm. Then told we were unable to order food as the chef had a lot of tickets and orders on in the kitchen. I counted the tables of people who were eating and there were a total of 8, 5 of which were already half way through their mains and the rest were finished. If a chef can't keep up with 8 tables and serve 2 more people half an hour before the kitchen closes then I'm perplexed! Hopefully it was just an off night, and hopefully next time we wonder down we might get some food, perhaps we should have booked, which I would totally understand if the place was heaving. Maybe things were going on behind the scenes we weren't aware of, which i know happens. Can't fault the service from the young lad serving our drinks, he was ace!
