We only had drinks and dinner at the hotel......we were staying at the lodges 1 mile past. The meal was excellent in what I thought was a nice atmospheric hotel. Open fires, beautiful view. Excellent selection of Island Malts in the bar. The quality of the food.....particularly the scallops starter was well above expectation for a small hotel. Decent wine...

I stayed at a nearby B&B but had dinner here before taking the ferry out in the morning. I quite enjoyed an upscale Scottish meal and had a great conversation with one of the owners as I perused and sampled from their extensive whisky collection. It was a warm welcome on a chilly fall evening. I highly recommend the restaurant!

Was here with my elderly mother and nothing was too much trouble, they took great care of her and made a real fuss of her. The restaurant was well above average and reasonable, the bar was a great place to be in the hotel and the log fires mad a great atmosphere. It really is a nice place to stay

Lovely scenic views of lake across the road; breakfast with a view. Short distance to Tarbert town. Friendly proprietors. Most comfortable feather pillows ever. Fine dining restaurant on site and comfortable bar lounge.

Don't know who's been writing these reviews on trip advisor but I can honestly say the rooms we stayed in were a disgrace. Food fantastic nice downstairs. Screws poking out of the sides of the bed cobwebs all over lights. Slept for about 2 hours

Our visit was a test for a potential visit to Islay next year and we were looking for an hotel near to the ferry. We stopped overnight on our way home from Machrihanish. West Loch is an old building with a comfortable lounge and bar area and well furnished restaurant and rooms. Our room was comfortable with good sized beds...

We were traveling on an early morning ferry to Islay the next day and this was closest to the ferry landing. We were pleasantly surprised by the hospitality - great bar - lovely picnic table to sit outside and enjoy the rare sunny afternoon. the only downside was the bathroom there was really no shower just a bath tub with...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A small, family-run establishment, the West Loch Hotel dates from around 1780, and is well known locally for having some of the best food in the area. We are well placed for guests passing through, and for those wishing to spend longer in the area, exploring Argyll & the Isles. Ideally located for people heading on the whisky trail to Islay (just minutes from the ferry), most guests find our large whisky selection the perfect start to their adventure! A charming, former coaching inn, the hotel has been sympathetically modernised over the years, retaining many of its original features. Our rooms are dog-friendly, with a choice of double or single rooms, and we have also got family rooms available for those travelling with children. Able to cater for small events, from birthday parties to weddings, we always go the extra mile to make sure your special occasion is extra special. ... more   less
