Mystique Holbox by Royalton, a Tribute Portfolio Resort, garners commendation for its well-maintained and comfortable rooms, although a few guests have raised concerns about noise and safety. The staff's friendly and prompt service often receives high marks, despite occasional communication hiccups.
While the vibrant atmosphere may affect the tranquility for some, the resort's prime location near the town center and beach is widely praised. Opinions on value and cleanliness vary, with several guests questioning the price point given the amenities, which include a beachfront but reportedly undersized pool and gym equipment in need of repair.

We arrived at Holbox with my group of friends from Cancun not knowing where we would stay that night. We searched the internet and found this hotel as an option. The reception lady was very friendly and patient with us and guided us through the whole process of being able to book a room at the best price as in her system she had no availability, so we used ExpedĂa on this occasion. The room was very comfortable, clean, with good amenities and facilities, however, caused us some conflict the bathroom door as it was Glass and there was an opening where you could see from the outside. It was uncomfortable as I stayed with my friends in the room.
We had breakfast at the hotel, overlooking the sea, had a very comfortable time at breakfast, had a very rich green juice, provided us with bread for coffee and ordered some green chilaquiles, they were fine, but I didn't love them.
The location of the hotel is very good as it is away from the noise of the center but not so much so that you can easily walk, we arrive at the center by walking along the seashore.

We did not stay at Mystique Hotel, but spent some time on the beach in front of their Beach Bar area. Hector (waiter) was incredibly helpful! Although we didn't have beach chairs, he let us order food and drinks directly down to the beach. He even came out with his plate and cutlery so we could eat comfortably on our towels. The drinks and the beer were also served to us on the beach with a smile.

The hotel itself was enjoyable, very clean and the service was outstanding. Our beach front view room was nice and there was plenty of room to spread-out. The beach front rooms are in front of a road, so there was some noise from taxies and dirt bikes. All staff were extremely friendly, and always very helpful with any questions we had. The food and drinks were average, nothing bad; but nothing remarkable. As a Titanium Elite, I was able to select a set breakfast as an welcome amenity (I did need to the show the app indicating breakfast was an option). The pool is on the smaller side, and well maintained. There are only a few loungers and we enjoyed the peacefulness of the area. The beach was well kept, and on days seaweed was present, it was raked. The only downside was the loud music, which made it difficult to relax. It is an easy walk into town from the hotel; however, would definitely recommend getting a taxi when arriving / departing (around 100 Pesos each way). The walk to/from the ferry terminal is too far with luggage. While Holbox was not a good fit for us, we are glad we stayed at this hotel while on the island.

Location was fine, food was okay, service from our waiter was good.
We wanted to eat something and use a bed, because the day was almost over (3:30 PM) we didn't want to pay 180 pesos per person, so we made a deal with a waiter who spoke English.
We spent $680 per person without having to pay a fee for the bed.
Ultimately we received the bill with an extra fee for the beds.
We spoke to the waiter in question, who denied that we had made a deal.
Furthermore, he let his colleagues take care of it and no longer dared to look at us.
After 45 minutes of discussion, we finally paid the bill, including the ridiculous fee for the beds.
In my opinion, these people do not understand that they are losing 4 customers who will spend their money elsewhere for the rest of the holiday.
This is very unfortunate.
Zero stars for this accommodation.

We arrived at around half past one in the afternoon. We were told that our room would not be ready until 3 p.m., which is absolutely fine. We then ate in the restaurant and passed the time that way (the food and drinks are completely OK 👌🏻). When we wanted to move into our room at 3 p.m. because our child was supposed to be sleeping, we were put off 5 times with the statement that someone just had to check whether the room was ready.... When we got to the room, we noticed that the baby bed was broken (the slatted frame was completely sagged in various places and the mattress only filled 2/3 of the bed. We somehow managed to get our child to sleep, although that wasn't the aim. We then raised the issue at reception in the afternoon and asked them to replace or repair the bed.
When we got back to the room in the evening, we noticed that the condition of the bed hadn't changed. It was only after a chance meeting with the GM that something was improved... the problem seems to be that there aren't enough baby beds to provide a completely intact one. The other family with a child had a little more luck with the baby bed, it was at least intact, even if there was no mattress for it....
The hotel is now a little old. In general, the rooms are tastefully and practically furnished. However, it would be nice if the curtains and furniture were repaired.
At breakfast there is a "two-class society" if breakfast is booked in advance, there is a very reduced offer that does not do justice to a 5-star hotel in terms of quality or quantity. Paying guests receive a different menu with much more appealing drinks and food...
At breakfast, William usually served us. He was friendly and, unlike his colleagues, had a smile on his face.
On the second day, we used one of the four covered beach tents. Due to the bad weather, there were hardly any other guests on the beach. After a short time, we were informed that these places were reserved and had to be paid for. We were confused, had actually noticed the sign on the beach for day use, but had assumed that this was the fee for external guests and not an additional cost for hotel guests. We were then told that this was not an all-inclusive hotel and that every service costs extra...
Unfortunately, we only "met" Leonardo from the FO on the last day. An extremely friendly and courteous person, it's a shame that more people like him don't work there.
We have experienced much better service in much cheaper hotels and the staff have also been much more courteous. Overall, we did not feel very welcome. I thought about speaking to the GM about these points, but after reading the other negative reviews (unfortunately only afterwards), I have to say that exactly the same points were criticized over a year ago. What a pity! I would strongly recommend a different hotel for Holbox and, in the worst case, book it without breakfast...

This hotel is so far from what we expected from the star rating, photos and price we paid. Overall its very run down, the furniture, the restaurant, decor and the common areas. We ate at the restaurant for breakfast once and it was a terrible experience, barely any of the staff can speak English so it was very difficult when ordering, the food was some of the worst I have had on the island, very underwhelming and the orange juice was watered down. Unlike the photos, there’s actually only one restaurant and it’s on the beach, there are so many flies and the staff cleaned the table with a spare napkin before setting it up for the next people. The pictures this hotel advertises are not accurate at all! There are not enough Sun loungers, the pool is very small with no seating around it. The gym is good however disinfectant and paper towels should be provided to clean. It took us 45 minutes to check in at 3pm, the simplest tasks seem to be over complicated and there’s no sense of urgency, I have found this with general things such as getting towels, reserving the gym, even ordering room service. The rooms are nice and clean, fresh towels are provided each day. The only issue with the rooms are that there’s no privacy and you can hear the neighbours talking. WiFi is not great but this is not uncommon for Holbox. The location is very good, far enough out of town to be quiet but not too far to walk in for amenities.
This hotel is meant to be “luxury” but having travelled a lot and stayed in another hotel on Holbox, which was a fraction of the price, I would not recommend Mystique and would advise staying elsewhere.

My husband and I stayed for 6 nights in the Presidential Suite, and we had a wonderful experience. The room was beautiful - it was honestly too much space for the two of us but it made me feel very pampered. We ate our meals on the balcony, which has a lovely view of the beach and ocean through the trees in front of the hotel (the suite occupies the second and third floors of the building). We didn't spend much time on the private rooftop, although it did storm one evening and it was very cool to go up top and watch the wind and the waves. And of course we got some amazing pictures up there for the 'gram.
The customer service was phenomenal. Jessica at the front desk took exceptional care of us. She booked two kayak excursions for us, and arranged all of the transportation that we needed during our stay. Hector was delightful and brought me a steady supply of pina coladas on the days that I spent reading and relaxing in the tents they have set up on the beach. The hotel was clean and housekeeping did a great job on the days that we needed them. One evening the thermostat started randomly beeping - I asked the front desk to have someone come check it out and they addressed it as though my minor annoyance was an all-hands-on-deck emergency, and the issue was fixed immediately.
I ordered room service breakfast one morning and it was a bit underwhelming, but there are so many food options all over the island that we didn't have much need for food at the hotel since we wanted to try so many places.
When I come back to Isla Holbox (and I plan to after this experience!), I will be staying at Mystique again.

Definitely the best hotel to spend a few days relaxing, exceptional service from all your team and very good food in the beachfront restaurant.
Recognize the work of Alberto the hotel director and all the wonderful humamo team that works there, are always on the lookout for all clients, from the moment you make the Reservation until the moment you leave.
The very spacious rooms comfortable and clean as well as all areas of the hotel, ideal to come both as a couple and as a family.
The strip of beach they have is spectacular and they keep it always clean and conditioned with beds, umbrellas and very original tepees.
The hotel is an 8-minute walk to the center of town, which is ideal since it is far from the city center where there is more bustle and is also close to it, where you can find restaurants and nightlife centers.
Security-wise Holbox is one of the healthy places we still have in Mexico.
I would definitely recommend it and we will be back.
Thank you very much to everyone at the Mystique Holbox by Royalton hotel.

Our stay at this hotel was absolutely wonderful! The staff went above and beyond, consistently friendly and attentive, making us feel warmly welcomed throughout our visit.
The housekeeping team did an excellent job, ensuring our room was cleaned daily to the highest standard. We stayed in the presidential suite, which was incredibly spacious and offered a stunning view that we couldn’t get enough of.
The hotel’s location is prime—perfect for those who enjoy walking and exploring the nearby center. It made getting around so convenient. A small tip: bring some mosquito spray, and you’ll be set for a comfortable stay.
The morning breakfast was another highlight, offering a delicious and convenient start to each day. Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations, and we can’t wait to return! Highly recommended.

Let me start with the positive parts of this hotel. The location is great, the beach and restaurant (see my separate review) are amazing, and it's clean and well kept up. The staff are very nice, but do not expect them to be responsive to your needs in the way you would think you get at a 5-star hotel. Fantastic beach.
Now to the rest. They do not answer their phones. Get a WhatsApp number for them if you want any kind of response. They do not help organize tours, you will need to do this with other partners. They are super nice, they just get things done very slowly if they don't forget. One day our room was never made up until we went out to dinner and asked them to do it. One day I asked for a towel since they had only given us 2 (we were 4 people), and it never showed up. The next day when I asked again, we got 3 extras. I asked for a luggage rack upon arrival, or a small table to put our suitcases on, nothing ever showed up. Also, don't come to this hotel for the pool. It is really small - you come to Holbox for the beach anyway and this hotel has a gorgeous beach.
My suggestion to the management. Invest in luggage racks (2 per room). This will cost you less than $15 each, and most guests do not like putting luggage on the floor. What people expect at a star rated hotel is service. Invest in a concierge desk or have one of the local tour operators open a kiosk on your property. Guests want to book tours, fishing, excursions and more. The fact that your staff cannot help with this is a big deficit. Keep up the good work, but recognize that people who arrive are expecting much better service.
