Arrived in Waitomo for 2 night stay at WCH just after the big rains. Stayed in a family room that had been partially renovated. Building is old and it looks it...not like the website pictures. Room 30 was in Victorian wing and overlooked Waitomo. As there are bars nearby the noise did travel late at night. Couple in next room...

Thanks for your review. We certainly don't agree with you that the hotel is spooky and haunted. The property is a historic hotel so of course it is old! We continue to rennovate the property to restore it to it's former splendour. It's not for everyone but many love the charm and character it offers and of course the friendly...

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Waitomo Caves Hotel. This is not a fancy hotel by any stretch of the imagination, but it is full of character and quirks. I loved it. If you are looking for a luxury stay, it is most definitely not for you. This hotel has seen better days. We stayed in a room in...

Please be aware that the photos on the website are not how the hotel presents itself today. This grand old hotel is in a fabulous location high up on the hill but has sadly been neglected in recent times. Locals spoke of it having been taken over late 2016 after many years of neglect and there is evidence that some...

Thanks for taking the time to place a review. I am sorry to hear that aspects of your stay did not meet with your approval. I can assure you that the photos were taken in April 2015 and are by no means deceitful! There are photos of room examples clearly outlined on our website.

Very polite staff, beautiful view from our room, beautiful surroundings. Very wide douple bed, big and high room for 3 people. Cute place and you could easily imagine how amazing this place has looked decades ago. Very good location if going to see the glow worms and other caves. Wi-fi worked well. Indoor jacuzzi downstairs was lovely. Eventhough the hotel...

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay. I'm pleased to have that you appreciated the character and charm of the building and you still enjoyed your stay, despite being in an un-renovated room. We look forward to seeing you again.

On entering room 9 in the Victorian wing an overwhelming smell of damp and mould could be smelt so we opened the only two windows that we could (behind the bed). We had booked and paid in advance for a queen size bed but what we got was two single beds of differing heights pushed together. The carpet was stained...

We had read many negative reviews regarding how old this hotel is and its upkeep, so we were sceptical. But we are glad we took the risk. We were in the top room, which was spacious and clean with lovely views of rolling hills.. There is room for touch ups of paintwork and window frames, The creaky floorboards and general...

So you decide it would be fun to stay in a historic hotel to soak in all that history. Old hotels require a lot of upkeep, to match the standard of modern accommodation. A lot of money needs to spent on this hotel. Décor dates probably from the 1950's as far as carpet and furnishings. Tiny rooms, lack of amenities,...

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay with us. We feel that the amenities provided at the hotel are typical of what most New Zealand hotels offer. Sorry to hear that the neighbouring guests were noisy at night - eeek!!

Despite reading previous reviews, we decided to take a chance on staying here as we'd heard it was haunted and wanted to see for ourselves! Ok, so it might be (as mentioned by others,) shabby chic but that in our opinion just adds to the attraction of the place! We can honestly stay that even if the wallpaper is dated...

My husband & I stayed for 2 nights. Our room was a king room small but very clean. Had a great bed! Bathroom was small but had a nice hot shower. It is an old hotel but has lots of charm. The hallways are pretty creepy, meant to be the most haunted hotel in N.Z. We did a bit of...
