Thank you Uwahnie and Eugene for teaching us about the Garifuna culture. We learned so much from you and you made us feel so welcome! We learned how to pick coconuts, how to make traditional foods and how to drum. It made our trip much more meaningful. What a great experience!

We came to Belize to learn about the culture and we met Owani and her dad- they are amazing beautiful people. We learned how to make their food- we actually prepped and cooked it- from picking a coconut, cutting it, shredding and milking it. The food was amazing! Then we participated in a few drumming rhythms which was super fun!...

We visited last week, and we're not quite sure what to expect when we arrived. We met Owani, and she was warm and welcoming. We changed into our traditional Garifuna clothing in the outdoor bathrooms, and then we began our tour. This experience included a brief history of the Garifuna people and an introduction to some traditional tools and practices....

My purpose in coming to Belize was primarily to scout out a Belize location for retirement. It just so happened that Palmento Grove was located in just the sort of environment I was looking for. The village of Hopkins in Stann Creek district is a quiet, peaceful place with friendly residents and natural beauty. "Mel" and Eugene Martinez are the...

If you're looking for an experience second to none in Hopkins, Palmento Grove is the place to be. We had an opportunity to learn and experience Garifuna culture with Uwahnie and her team who immersed us immediately in the culture by dressing us in traditional Garifuna clothes. We learned the history of the Garifuna people, cooked a traditional Garifuna meal...

We had a great time here but don't be mistaken it's more like camping then a five star resort... The shacks are great but they are exposed to the bugs not a problem for me besides the mosquitos... The grounds need a little tlc but the owners were so lovely and kind... The area seems a little rough because of...

Somehow we were the only guests, which felt a little odd at first, but we grew to like it. The location is probably a factor as it is a short distance from the beach, but they provided free bikes and this makes our favorite spot - Driftwood pizza less than 5 minutes away. We also took advantage of their kayaks...

We spent one night at Palmento Grove on our way down to Placencia. We had no reservations and weren't looking to spend a fortune on accommodations for one night. Our host was very friendly and the room was great for our budget. Our A/C didn't work, but we did have a fan and that was just fine. Our cabin also...

The banana fritters and hudut (a cultural dish in Belize) tasted really good. The food was well prepared and presented. As for my kayaking experience, I must say that the guide (Uwahnie) did a great job. Initially I was skeptical about kayaking because I've never done it before, but the guide helped me in gaining confidence to kayak on my...

Unexpected, breathtaking experience, one that I will be doing again in the near future! Kyacking in the lagoon, taking the skiff to the cayes, snorkeling, fishing and then having our fresh catch deliciously prepared and presented. As a Belizean, it was one of my best vacations with my family. Our guide, Uwannie was very informative throughout providing us with a...
