I am sorry but I can not write a great review for this condo. We have stayed in various levels of accommodations all over the world and are very seasoned travelers. Sarkiki is an out of the way adventure for sure (it took us 3 hours from the airport); pictures and reviews are totally misleading (for instance I never saw that many lounge chairs that were in the picture - some current lounge chairs need replaced - it must have been taken when the place was new; palm trees are now grown a good 15 feet tall or more); the place is clean, but tired and in need of a major overhaul; I question the validity of the good reviews...this WAS NOT the same resort as "Incredible adventure" or "Great Place". If beach was sprayed, I would hate to be there when it wasn't sprayed. No-see-ums (sand fleas were horrendous - we were eaten alive - couldn't use certain bug sprays and Deet is poisonous); we were told snorkeling was better than many areas (cost $60 per person for a 20-30 minute boat ride to a man-made island with so-so snorkeling); Fishing was $160 for 1/2 day; most tours at least 1-2 hours away and expensive; 2 chinese markets you wouldn't set foot in here in the US that were located 15-20 minutes away on rough dirt road; (got short changed twice); no comfortable sitting areas in the condo or lamps to read by - 2 seater settee with thin cushion; outside wooden table and chairs, new but totally uncomfortable, no cushions; dim lighting in kitchen and very sparse in utensils, plates, and other kitchen essentials; upholstery was dirty; small flat-screen TV in poor condition, sporadic internet, screens with holes; rusty front door screens; a front door lock that wouldn't operate; 2 pool bars there in name only without any service; pool in need of repair; sandy beach was nice ONLY in front of Sarkiki (some neighbors raked in front of homes, but trash, bottles, plastic, refuse lined the beach in both directions. Basically, we have few good things to say about this area. Were told this condo was a medium price range for Belize, but we ended up going to another hotel for $129/night plus tax w/breakfast for part of our stay to see another part of Belize. We feel the marketing is misleading and false advertising. Beware!

We had a wonderful stay at Sarkiki and most memorable adventures with the help of the amazing staff!

As mentioned in other reviews, do your research, go on Google Earth, and make sure this is the adventure you are looking for.

We had such fun riding the bikes, meeting new friends, hiking, snorkeling, and exploring! The locals are most friendly and helpful.

Thank you Mike, Linda, Jim, Christine, Manuel, Epi, Rueben, Elton, Elicia, Lisa, Jason, and all the others who made our adventure most incredible!

Cheers,

Denny

Spent New Year holiday at Sarkiki after stumbling across it during Google search for accommodation in Belize for holiday period.
Delighted with our choice. Terrific place for self contained holiday as busy or as relaxed as you choose.
Linda and Mike are great hosts, cannot do enough to make your holiday as easy as possible, from rental car suggestions (Crystal rent a car are excellent) to booking trips and providing recommendations for places to eat.
Resort has beautiful beach and great swimming.
Temptation is to hang out in a hammock all day every day but there is so much to do within easy drive of Hopkins. Our favorites; Cave Tubing at Blue Hole National Park, fishing and snorkeling on the reef and the night safari to a bioluminescence lagoon.
Belize is a terrifically unfussy and laid back place with lovely people and Sarkiki is great place to base yourself in The Stann Creek area.

Wow - I think you summed it all up - thank you for your review. There is so much to explore in Belize or you can just chill at the beach as you say. By the way - took your advice and did the river tubing at Cockscomb Basin - it was really great.

Wish we were still at Sarkiki Reef Resort. We stayed for a week with our young adult sons. We did day trips hiking to the waterfalls, snorkelling and cave tubing. We enjoyed relaxing on our deck, by the pool or swimming in the pool and ocean. Buy fresh fruit and vegetables from the guy who comes to the gate twice a week. Jim and Christine were great hosts and offered lots of ideas for restaurants and things to do. Playing beach volleyball with the staff was fun. The accommodation was clean and provided lots of room for all of us. We cooked some of our meals at Sarkiki but also went into Hopkins and ate at the local restaurants too. We enjoyed staying out of town where it was quiet and peaceful. Viewing the stars at night was phenomenon. Loved being on the beach to go for walks and swimming. The other guests were all kind and a pleasure to meet. Would definitely stay here again.

My wife and I finally had the opportunity to take a vacation on our own...no kids, just the two of us. We had done some research on Belize and liked what we saw. After further research and reading reviews we chose Sarkiki Reef Resort, and glad we did!

Sarkiki Reef Resort was exactly how we had imagined it to be from the pictures we had seen on line...gorgeous. The rooms are large, clean and very well maintained. The views from our patio and deck were incredible. There seemed to be a nice gentle breeze blowing in every day. The staff were very nice and always smiling, they were there when we needed them but never in the way.

Being a tropical location we had expected some bugs but to our amazement and delight we didn't experience any at all. Even when we went on a jungle hike to search for Scarlet Macaws we didn't need the bug spray we brought along. The beach around the resort was beautiful, really clean and also no sign of bugs or sand fleas.

We went fishing and snorkeling and highly recommend using the guides that Linda from Sarkiki led us to. Our guide (Patrick) took us to an amazing reef full of under water plant life and tropical fish. We all caught fish and I don't think we would have been so fortunate without Patrick's knowledge!

The other guests at the resort were very friendly. Mike and Linda are very accommodating and full of great advise on the local places to eat, adventures and tours.

Sarkiki was a great "Get Away", we had a fantastic trip!

My husband and I visited Hopkins and stayed at Sarkiki Reef with 3 other couples. The eaccommodations are well designed, spacious, comfortable, clean and have amazing views from the decks. We loved the pool which is salt based and a lovely beach with a safe, shallow shore line. The people of Belize and Hopkins in particular are friendly and unlike larger resorts where you are closed off from the local community we felt like part of the community. Linda & Mike (and Cam) offer invaluable advice as to where to eat and who to connect with for various excursions. Manuel who works at Sarkiki is happy to be a guide on his days off and his brother Epi and the rest of the staff are friendly and helpful. If you are needing to watch a sporting event then the Marina which is near by is a great place to go with good food and cheep beer. I'm glad we spent 2 weeks because it always takes a few days to get the lay of the land when it's a first visit to a foreign place. We would recommend renting a car (we used Crystal Car Rentals) and though the highways are pretty good be prepared for rough roads (and mud if it rains) around the smaller towns. We would highly recommend the tubing in the caves (at Blue Hole) with the group that Cameron at Sarkiki set us up with - I was a little concerned with the idea of being in a cave, but I didn't have a problem at all :) We also loved Chef Rob's and Love on the Rocks restaurants (same owners for both) and when our Dutch cousins discovered they served dutch croquets (limited clientele) well we had to go and we devoured them :) All in all we would highly recommend Sarkiki - Mike and Linday and staff went out of their way to make sure our stay was comfortable and worry free. Thanks to everyone there!

If you are looking for a comfortable and affordable base to see Belize this is the perfect spot. We stayed a month and felt like family by the time we left. Thank you so much Mike, Linda, Cam, Épée, Elton and Manuel for making us feel so welcome. Hopkins takes a little getting used to but you will love it by the time you leave. Eat at the local spots as much as possible,ie. Iris's, Innies, and Yu Ga Da. Barracuda has the best food, but a bit of an attitude. Rob's and Love on the rocks are fine, but a little pretentious for what they offer. Go to Thongs for breakfast, it's so good and they are so nice. Ask Épée about a river tour: toucans, parrots, owls, crocs, luminescence and more iguanas than you can count. The jungle and Mayan ruins are a day trip so having a car is huge. The best thing about Belize is the people, and having 3 awesome locals on premise will help open up that world for you. Last, but not least, hike cockscomb and stop to see Aurora on your way out. Oh, and eat great pizza at Driftwood, on a night when they're drumming. SO COOL.

My husband and I stayed for 10 days over Christmas 2012. Found the place on VRBO. Was what we expected. Great beach and pool; close to two parks for hiking; reef snorkelling 30min away; and Hopkins 5 miles away with good small grocery stores and places to eat. A rental car or motor bike would be recommended. Sarkiki condo we rented met all our needs; staff (especially Eppe and Elton) were very helpful and owners Mike, Linda, and Nate were there when we were and made our stay great. If you're looking for a self sufficient, quite place we would recommend Sarkiki.

Sarkiki requires a little explanation. It is not a resort nor is it a hotel. It is a building of attached condo apartments. Each unit is mulitple stories tall with private balconies and roof top space. The apartments are huge with a kitchen, washer/dryer, A/C etc. You need to have your own supplies, not even a starter set of shampoo/soap is provided, but again this place is designed for indepent travelers who want the experience of shopping at the local market. There is no restaurant, no bar, no lobby etc..but there is a live on site manager who can help with whatever you need, book trips etc. She and the rest of the staff are very friendly and go out of their way to see you have fun (one even came running to get us from our room when he heard that there was a tapir in the village! the manager gave my daughters a good bye present of shells). The location is nice, right on the beach and across from the lagoon. It is not in the village nor walking distance really so a car is a must. it is about a 5 minute drive to Hamansi and the other big name resorts, another 5 min drive or so to Hopkins itself. As others have noted there are sand fleas (true everywhere on the coast) so bring bug spray. The beds are firm but we like firm beds and found them comfortable. The pictures are a little misleading: there are no flowers on the nightstand or bed (in fact no pictures/decorations on any walls, beach/pool chairs are provided but they are not the fancy colorful set in the pics, and the rooftop balcony is not covered with a thatched roof - it is completly uncovered - great for seeing the beatiful night sky, a bit bright for sitting out a reading a book though. All in all we enjoyed our stay and would go back in a minute. If you are looking for a self catered trip you will enjoy Sarkiki, if however you want a hotel setting and services this is not for you, head to Hamansi if you can - it was beautiful and the dive shop fantastic. Parrot Cove was nearby and nice as well.

My sun on I fell in love with the Sarkiki. Perfect spot with a wonderful sandy beach not yet built up the big hotels. We stayed in one of the three bedroom suites which was very spacious, with four separate decks on different levels; unobstructed views over the gardens, pools, and ocean on one side, untouched and natural mangrove forests and hills to the rear. The staff was so good, we really miss them and are looking forward to heading back. The property was kept very clean, someone was always around to help. It was great being able to sleep with doors wide open, listening to the ocean and birds, and feeling completely safe. There was air-conditioning everywhere if you wanted it, but as there are also big ceiling fans in every room, we did not need it. It was so much nicer to have the option. We had a rental vehicle, which you want as there is so much to see in the area. This place spoils you for other spots. It was great.
